- Chapter 0 - Me and The Moon Angel
Me and The Moon Angel
In my school, there is a girl called the ‘moon angel’.
It’s a metaphor of course, she is not really the moon angel.
“Hey, I wonder what Tsukino-senpai is reading.”
“Hmm… I knew it, it’s pure literature maybe?”
It was after school at the student council office. As I sat at the secretary’s desk waiting for the meeting to start, I overheard a conversation between two juniors.
Those juniors were staring at a girl.
Saya Tskuno—my childhood friend.
“……”
Tsukino was sitting alone at her desk reading her book.
There was no emotion in her face at all and her mysterious eyes were focused on her book. The wind would blow the curtains sometimes and the sun shining through the window made Tsukino’s beautiful hair sparkle.
It was an incredible sight.
“It’s true that Tsukino-senpai would read such difficult books. Maybe it’s Dostoevsky or something difficult like that. No wait, or could it be a poetry book…?”
(Dostoevsky is a Russian novelist in the 19th century)
“If it bothers you that much, why don’t you just ask her yourself?”
“You idiot! What are you saying? A commoner like me is not allowed to talk to Tsukino-senpai.”
Since when was Tsukino in such a ladylike position?
But I understand what the juniors were saying. Tsukino doesn’t show any expression and she is really quiet, it probably gives the impression that she is unapproachable. I know her well because we have been together since we were little.
“I don’t care if I can’t get along with Tsukino-senpai. Just being allowed to see this such wonderful sight makes me really happy.”
“You sound like a true follower…”
“Of course. She is an angel after all. Aww, she’s very cute today…”
A girl so mysterious that she seems like she is from another world.
She is a girl named Tsukino Saya, the ‘moon angel’.

That Tsukino, you see.
This morning, as she was reading her book in her pyjamas after taking a bath, I groomed Tsukino’s hair.
“If you don’t like it, just tell me honestly. I don’t know much about girl’s hair grooming.”
“I don’t mind. As long as Yuto does it for me, I don’t mind if it gets a little weird.”
The reason why I groomed Tsukino’s hair is because when I saw Tsukino after preparing her breakfast as usual, I noticed her hair was slightly wet.
Of course I said to her that she at least should use a hairdryer to dry her hair.
But Tsukino didn’t want to close her book, she was totally absorbed into it. She wanted to continue reading the book so much that she didn’t have time to dry her hair.
Then she gave me a sweet look and said.
“—hey, Yuto. I have a favor to ask… I want you to take care of my hair.”
“You should just read the book afterwards, you’ll be done with your hair in no time. It’s not like you’re being rushed by your homework.”
“But I’m curious what happens next, or Yuto, is taking care of my hair annoying to you?”
“No, not at all. I’d rather to take care of Tsukino’s hair than she goes to school with a hair like that.”
Besides, it was Tsukino’s request, I don’t have any right to refuse it.
I had promised that I’ll fulfil all of Tsukino’s request.
As I brushed her hair while drying it with a hairdryer, her hair flows nicely and smoothly. I noticed that her hair smells really nice, perhaps it was because she just had taken a bath.
I bet the rest of the student council has no idea at all, the mysterious moon angel actually has no life skills at all that her childhood friend had to take care of her hair.
“But I can’t believe Tsukino is so absorbed into it. What are you reading?”
“Saint-Exupéry’s ‘The Prince of The Stars’. Interesting right?”
(Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is a French writer in the 20th century, he actually has a novel titled the little prince)
Dear my juniors, Tsukino was reading neither pure literature nor poetry book, but she was reading a children’s literature book.
Eh, wait… ‘The Prince of The Stars’?
“Didn’t you say you’ve read that in middle school? How many times have you read it?”
“I’m reading it from another publisher. Different publishers translate them differently, so the impression I get when reading them is totally different. It’s a lot of fun, you know?”
“Wow. That’s a hell of an obsession.”
“I’m the kind of person who once I fall in love with something, I’ll fall madly in love with them. Well—”
Then Tsukino smiled like an angel.
“I’ve been in love with Yuto for a long time, and now I’m still in love with you, right?”
“…I-I see.”
I think it wasn’t fair. I can’t believe she suddenly said the word ‘like’ out of the blue.
I truly understand Tsukino’s single-mindedness.
Because a month ago.
I was confessed by my childhood friend Tsukino, who had been with me for more than ten years.
But there are many complicated things going on. Now our relationship is more than childhood friends, but less than lovers.
Thinking back, my relationship with Tsukino have changed a bit.
Because we have known each other since little, I could brush Tsukino’s hair like that without feeling nervous. I didn’t feel embarrassed at all.
But that moment, the reason I felt embarrassed when she said she likes me was because I saw Tsukino as a girl, I guess.
“…yeah, right.”
Then I suddenly remembered. I had made a promise to Tsukino.
Until then, Tsukino and I had been childhood friends.
But if Tsukino said she likes me.
I’m sure that I, Minato Yuto, have to face Tsukino’s feelings properly.
“…? Yuto, what’s wrong?”
“You know, Tsukino. This Sunday, me and—”
Then when I said it, Tsukino’s eyes fluttered open in surprise.
