Angel In Apron/Doki Doki Cooking/Distance Between Two People
Shortly after, I pressed the intercom at Tsukino’s apartment, I was immediately greeted by her.
Maybe she was very excited about it, Tsukino was wearing her mother’s apron over her school uniform. Come to think of it, she almost never wears an apron before, even I, her childhood friend, rarely see her in an apron.
“I haven’t seen Tsukino in an apron since elementary school. Yeah, you look pretty good.”
“Really? Thanks.”
I felt really uncomfortable.
Tsukino was turning away from me, as if she was avoiding making eye contact with me.
“Well then, let’s prepare to cook now. Come here.”
As if she was in a panic, Tsukino quickly heads to the kitchen.
I rolled up my sleeves as I walked into the kitchen.
“Yosh, let’s get started. Today, I’m going to recommend a dish that even beginners can easily master, pasta with meat sauce.”
In my experience, pasta is one of the easiest and simplest ingredients to prepare. While meat sauce is a very easy dish to make, all we need to do is just fry and simmer a few ingredients. I think that it is a dish that all people can enjoy making.
“You will have to use a knife to cut the ingredients. If you can’t use a knife, I can cut the ingredients for you.”
“No, let me try it.”
She looked nervous but determined, then Tsukino grabbed the knife.
Her hand trembled slightly as she cut the onions on the cutting board. That was not surprising, Tsukino had no experience in cooking before, and she is not very good at it.
Tsukino froze after cutting a few onions, as if she was frightened of the onions.
I wanted to help in any way I could, so I gently grabbed Tsukino’s hand from behind.
“Ah—”
“It’s fine. If you cut it carefully, you won’t cut yourself. Here, like this…”
I carefully cut the onion with her hands, then the onion was cut into a half-moon shape.
“I-it cut off easily…?”
Suddenly, I realized.
That Tsukino, who is called the expressionless angel of the moon – was blushing.
I was at a loss for words, then Tsukino lips moves as I was looking at her.
“You’re too close Yuto. Move away a little bit.”
“I’m sorry. You won’t be able to cook if I’m too close.”
Now that was a little too close, wasn’t it? That’s the bad thing about childhood friends, I unconsciously get too close to her.
Tsukino took a deep breath and slowly cut the onion. Then, she chopped the onion awkwardly.
“That’s great. Nice work Tsukino.”
I don’t think there are many men in this world who can be moved by their childhood friend cutting up an onion.
However, Tsukino was so focused that she continued cutting the onions without responding to me. But eventually, she stopped.
“…hey, Yuto”
Tsukino looked at me blushing.
“I don’t really know how to chop them correctly. So, I want you to teach me like you did before.”
“Eh, but you told me to stay away because I was too close.”
“I was just surprised just now.”
Tsukino tilted her head sweetly.
There is no way I can say no to that kind of expression.
“Okay then, you need to chop them like this—…? Tsukino, what are you smirking about?”
“D-don’t stare at me too much. I’m just crying over the onions.”
–Then, listening to my advice, Tsukino proceeded to cut the onions, the only thing left to do was to cook the meat sauce.
“Look, it’s almost done. Tsukino can do this by herself, right?”
“Yes, I think so. I feel a little more confident. But even if you live with Hinata-san, Yuto will still cook for me, right?”
“Well, Tsukino’s parents have asked me to cook for her, and I don’t mind cooking for Tsukino as well.”
“I see. …hey, were you surprised when you found out that Hinata-san is your sister?”
“…of course I was surprised. I’ve been with Hinata on the student council since our freshman year.”
Come to think of it, that was the first time I’ve properly talked with Tsukino about my relationship with Hinata.
“Are you okay Yuto? Do you think you’ll get along with Hinata-san?”
“I don’t think there is going to be a problem. To begin with, we got along pretty well before all this happened. She even cooks meals for me, I can’t thank her enough.”
“That’s not I’m worried about …Yuto likes Hinata-san. I’m worried if he’s okay or not.”
I was at a loss for words and I could not respond to her.
…oh, God. Why do I feel upset?
“Now, what are you talking about? I have no idea what are you talking about.”
“…I see it’s just my imagination then. So, Yuto and Hinata-san are just friends, right?”
“That’s how it is. I don’t have any special feelings for Hinata. …even if, there was a slight chance that I did like Hinata, I’m not sure how things going to work out now.”
I spoke casually, just like a high school student talking about a video he saw yesterday.
“We’re brother and sisters. As a younger brother, I’m just casually living with my older sister.”
“…yeah.”
Was it just my imagination?
Tsukino’s face looked somewhat sad as she was cooking the meat sauce.
