Chapter 60 – Sumire-San’s Father
Kasui-san called me and we decided to have a meeting regarding Korisho-sensei’s photos that I had asked for confirmation previously.
But Korisho-sensei was not present at the meeting place.
“I’m sorry for sending the wrong photos.”
“Wrong photos?”
“Yes. Those photos have nothing to do with the project. Therefore, there’s no issue with the maid costume image that String-san had in mind. Also, there will be no characters wearing devilish costumes.”
“I see.”
Apparently it’s okay to use Sumire-san’s maid appearance.
For the illustration, I’m thinking of drawing the maid outfit that Sumire-san wore.
“Then, for the illustrations, can I use the materials I received before as reference?”
“Yes. Thank you very much.”
One cover page.
One frontispiece.
Eight illustrations.
I was commissioned for a total of 10 illustrations. It seems that we’re having this meeting to formally sign a contract.
I included color in the cover and frontispiece illustrations I sent.
I wonder how they were received?
“We, along with Korisho-sensei, greatly appreciate them. Thank you. Is it alright if we proceed with the completion on our end, or would you like to add some final touches?”
“I’d like to add a few final details, if possible. Would it be alright If I do that before finishing?”
“Of course! Thank you for attending to the details!”
Kasui-san bowed her head.
“No, no, I’m glad you’re satisfied.”
“It’s nice to know String-san is so kind.”
Although I wasn’t given detailed information about what happened, it seems Korisho-sensei mistakenly sent cosplay photos. She might be feeling embarrassed about it.
It seems better not to touch on this too much.
“I’ll take care of the bill here, so please excuse me.”
“Ah, yes. Thank you for your hard work.”
Kasui-san is a busy person.
Since I hadn’t finished my coffee yet, I was planning to drink it before leaving. However, suddenly a man sat down in front of me.
“Huh?”
I looked around, and there were many other empty seats.
However, a muscular man wearing a suit and sunglasses was staring at me.
“……”
Deciding that it would be better not to get involved with strange people, I decided to drink the rest of my coffee in one go and leave.
“You…”
“Huh?”
After I finished drinking, the man spoke up.
“You’re Himoda Youichi-kun, aren’t you?”
The man knew my name.
Does that mean he’s an acquaintance of mine? But I don’t know this shady-looking man.
“That’s right.”
I said yes, but inside I was freaking out.
“I see. Were you just having a work meeting?”
“Yes. I’m an illustrator, and I was talking to a business partner.”
For some reason, I feel like I shouldn’t lie, so I told the truth.
Even after drinking coffee, my throat felt so thirsty that I ended up swallowing saliva.
“This is who I am.”
I was handed a business card and I looked at the name.
There was a company name and the title of CEO.
It also had “Sewa Daisuke” written on it.
Huh? Sewa? Sewa…?
After repeating the name over and over again in my head, I was finally able to figure out who the man was.
At that moment, I stood up and bowed my head.
“I’m Himoda Youichi! I’m the person dating your daughter, Sewa Sumire-san!”
My mind went blank as I introduced myself.
This suspicious man in a suit is Sumire-san’s father.
“…I’ve heard about you from my wife. First of all, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for saving Sumire from that assailant.”
Sumire-san’s father, who took off his sunglasses, turned out to be a handsome middle-aged man.
It seemed he hadn’t intended to take his sunglasses off until he identified me.
“Furthermore, the punishment for the university student who tried to assault Sumire has been finalized. He will be sent to prison. He has also dropped out of university, and we’ve dealt with the situation through legal channels. As for compensation, an amount including both consolation and damages will be paid to you by his parents.”
Come to think of it, I had no idea what happened to the assailant.
“I’ve also heard from the doctor that your injury may leave a disability in your left hand. I sincerely appreciate not only saving my daughter but also risking yourself to protect her.”
With his second expression of gratitude, he bowed his head.
Hearing everything he said, I felt relieved and stroked my chest.
“But what do you mean you’re dating my daughter?”
“Eh?”
“You’re thirty-two years old. My daughter is twenty. That’s a twelve-year age difference. I appreciate your bravery, but getting involved with a girl much younger than you… No, I’m sorry. I didn’t come here to vent my personal feelings on you. I just couldn’t stomach your earlier introduction. I apologize.”
I could see various conflicts within him.
If I were in his shoes as a father, I could understand.
If someone told me my precious daughter was dating an older man, I wouldn’t know what to say.
“In any case, my wife had asked me to tell you the information I said earlier and to greet you. I didn’t want to go to my daughter’s house and have her not like me, so I had to resort to this place.”
Apparently there are various circumstances.
I think he’s a great man seeing he’s the CEO of a company. And I can understand his conflict as a father. He doesn’t seem like a bad person either.
“Anyway, I’ve finished my report and greetings. I’m sorry, but I need some time to sort out my feelings, so please excuse me.”
“Yes! Thank you very much.”
Sumire-san’s father raised one hand and left, unsteady on his feet.
He must have been quite shaken just by the fact of his daughter having a boyfriend.
If I thought that I would have a daughter with Sumire-san and she goes to marry another man, I would have felt like I had received a body blow.
