Chapter 33 – If I Don’t Have Him, I Won’t Be Satisfied [Ijichi’s POV]
[Ijichi’s POV]
Since no one could find him, I decided to go look for him myself.
I don’t care about my job.
If I don’t have him, I won’t be satisfied with anything. I need him more than drawing manga.
At first, I looked for hotels in Tokyo.
He left not too long ago, so he shouldn’t have found a house yet, right? But I couldn’t find him.
I had a group photo taken with everyone on my smartphone, so I enlarged it to show his face and asked around at hotels.
But nobody told me anything, and there was no sign of him coming and going.
Next, I thought he might be sleeping over at a manga cafe, so I went into a lot of manga cafes and looked around, but I couldn’t find it either.
Why can’t I find him anywhere?
I contacted the mediator and tried to get information.
“What! His parents are dead and he doesn’t have a resident card?”
I had no idea that his parents were dead.
Why didn’t he tell me? If he had, I would have given him time off and even attended his parents’ funeral!
That guy always doesn’t tell me anything important.
I know he checked over and over again about the work that day.
However, the timing when I came up with the idea and the timing when he asked me about it didn’t match, so it couldn’t be helped!
Even so, he just left after I fired him! He usually came back without saying anything, but he also left his smartphone behind this time.
I never thought something like this would happen.
I just thought that he would always accept my selfishness.
And yet, he didn’t come back.
If he doesn’t have a place to stay, he might stay in a park.
With that in mind, I started looking for smaller parks and then gradually moved to larger ones, peering into the faces of people sleeping.
And then, on the day marking three weeks since he disappeared, I found someone who seemed like him.
However, that person seemed cleaner and more energetic than I expected.
That’s strange. I thought he would be in distress, crying because he was abandoned by me.
Yet there he was, smiling and laughing cheerfully with a cute girl.
I couldn’t hold back.
“I finally found you.”
“Huh?”
When I called out to him, he looked at me.
It’s him after all!
He just looks a bit tidier.
“I-Ijichi-sensei?”
“So you were at a place like this. At first, I couldn’t tell. The mediator said you didn’t have an address, so I thought you might be sleeping in a park. I’ve been looking for you in various parks. And yet, here you are, dressed so nicely!”
Being called by name, I couldn’t bear it anymore.
I’ve been searching so hard for him, so why does he look so happy?
Even though I’m not the one next to him.
I’ve been with him for ten years, but why is he happy with someone else?
“What are you doing! Why didn’t you come back! Getting fired is just our usual fight! You’re not a child to take it seriously and actually leave!”
That’s right! We’ve been together no matter what for ten years.
Even when I fired you, you stayed with me!
So why did you abandon me this time?
“Come on! Let’s go back.”
His body trembled, and as he hung his head, I grabbed his arm and tried to take him home.
“Stop it!”
The young woman next to him brushed my arm away.
Huh? Why is she getting in my way!?
“Youichi-san doesn’t like it.”
“Who are you?”
“I’m Youichi-san’s girlfriend!”
Huh?! That’s definitely a lie.
After all, she’s definitely a woman still in her 20s.
There’s no way she would be his partner.
The age difference is too far apart.
Besides, she’s young and good-looking, so there’s no way she’d be with a boring old man like him.
“Huh?! It’s only been about two weeks, and he’s got a girlfriend? Unbelievable! And isn’t there too much of an age difference between you two? Are you making fun of me? Maybe you intend to protect this guy, but he’s my employee! Leave us alone!”
When I was yelling at the woman, he barged in front of me and the woman.
“Please stop it! Ijichi-sensei, this woman really is my girlfriend! She saved me and I’m living a normal life now. And you were the one who fired me! I’m no longer your employee!”
W-what!? Did you leave me just because I fired you? And then you easily moved on to another woman?
Even though you had always been by my side.
“I won’t forgive you! I won’t forgive you!!!”
Everything… Everything is this woman’s fault!!
If it weren’t for this woman, he wouldn’t have defied me.
When I asked him to come back with me, he agreed.
But she was the worst kind of woman who brushed my hand away, lied about being his girlfriend, and got in the way between me and him.
“You!!”
“Do you like Youichi-san?”
“Ehh?!”
The words suddenly thrown at me made me realize that even my own voice sounded strange. But what is this woman saying?!
“I-I’ve been taking care of him all this time! Since his student days when he couldn’t do anything and his illustrations were terrible, I taught him how to draw, paid him a salary, and took care of him for ten years! I fed him, I provided for his livelihood!”
“…I see. So that’s what happened.”
That’s right! I’ve done everything for this guy up until now.
And yet, now that he’s suddenly gone and found another woman, I can’t forgive him for leaving me like this!
“Youichi-san.”
“Yes?”
“You must settle things. So please, express your feelings calmly. Express everything you’ve felt up until now.”
The woman distanced herself from between me and him, but close enough to rush in if something happened.
