Chapter 31 – Date Invitation
It took about ten days to finish the illustration of Hazuki-san and Yumi-san.
During that time, Sumire-san took care of various things for me, so I was able to finish the pictures smoothly.
“How is it?”
First, I want Sumire-san to see the completed work first.
I drew a scene of Hazuki-san working with a smartphone in hand, with an office background to match her suit.
“Fufufu, Mom looks so cool.”
“If that’s how it looks, then I’m glad.”
Hazuki-san is not only beautiful but also has a charming coolness, so I wanted to express that.
“And this is Yumi, right?”
I pictured Yumi-san smiling cheerfully in her school uniform, so I drew a scene of her in a classroom.
A scene where she sits at a desk, laughing with friends by the window.
“Yumi looks very lively, doesn’t she?”
I left rougher parts compared to when I painted Sumire-san, especially in the details.
Still, I paid attention to the shading and expressions.
“I’m glad you think that way. Does it look weird?”
“Of course not!”
By making them into characters instead of drawing people as they are, oddities would usually stand out.
The balance with the background is important.
“It looks like the lighting is hitting them both at the same angle.”
“Ah, did you notice? I was a little particular about that, and when I drew Sumire-san in her maid outfit, I included the same angle… Ah.”
“Fufu, it’s fun to hear Youichi-san talk so lively.”
“Ah, haha. Sorry. I talked too much.”
I can turn into a maniac and I have a bad habit of talking about details.
Even if the other person doesn’t really understand, I end up having fun talking about it.
“By the way, has Youichi-san received any job requests lately?”
“Oh, I have. But I can’t help but prioritize what I want to do. Up until now, my job has been to complete what I’ve been ordered to do.”
I feel guilty for giving priority to what I want to do.
I’ve been leaning more towards hobbies than work.
“Fufu, I see.”
For some reason, Sumire-san looked happy and reached out her hand.
She gently patted my head.
“Um, what’s wrong?”
“No, I’m just kind of happy. I think Youichi-san is feeling better than before.”
I could feel Sumire-san’s kindness through her hands as she stroked my head.
Lately, I’ve been getting used to being pampered by Sumire-san.
Sumire-san is younger than me, but I’m spoiled by her comforting nature.
“It’s all thanks to Sumire-san.”
“Thanks to me?”
“Yes. I can paint as I like, eat delicious meals, and live my life thanks to Sumire-san.”
“Fufufu, then please let me take better care of you.”
“I’ve already received enough!! W-well, um, I just want to do something in return, even if it’s just a little.”
“Something in return?”
There’s not much I can do.
If I could use my left arm, massaging would have been an option, but now I don’t have the strength to use my fingers on my left arm.
Illustrators get severe shoulder stiffness and lower back pain working in front of a computer.
I’m confident in my massage skills because I’ve done it with assistants.
Also, I was given a pretty good chair at Ijichi’s place, so mine was much better, but right now it’s a little painful to sit for a long time.
“Would you like to go on a date somewhere? We haven’t really gone out after we became a couple.”
We went to the hospital and went shopping, but it didn’t feel date-like.
“And I’ll take care of the expenses for that.”
“That’s a very great idea!! I’ll make a lunch box!”
“In that case, let’s find a place where we can eat Sumire-san’s lunch comfortably.”
“Fufu, I’m looking forward to it.”
I’ve been holed up in my room for a long time, so going out will be a nice change of pace. Yes, it feels like the right thing to do.
It’s almost three weeks since I’ve met Sumire-san.
During that time, we’ve only been out together a few times, mostly for hospital visits, which I feel sorry for.
“And would you mind telling me what you like, Sumire-san?”
“What I like?”
“Yes. Sumire-san, you seem to like taking care of people, right? Maybe something like a cat or dog cafe?”
“Fufu, actually, there is a place I want to go to.”
Surprisingly, Sumire-san seems excited about this topic, her eyes sparkling.
“Okay, then let’s go there.”
When I left Ijichi’s place, it was still warm, but as the season progressed, it became chilly while I was drawing illustrations.
“Yoichi-san, I bought some pajamas for autumn, so please wear these.”
Saying that, Sumire-san handed me a thin long-sleeved top and bottom.
The stitches on my left arm have been removed, and the bandage has come off, so it looks like my injury will be completely healed soon.
“Phew, I don’t know when you bought these, but thank you as always.”
“Fufu, Youichi-san, you always thank me.”
“Huh? Do I? I didn’t realize.”
Maybe I’ve been saying it too lightly because I can’t help but feel grateful every time Sumire does something for me.
“I’m always happy to hear you say it.”
Sumire-san hugged me and kissed me goodnight as I changed into my pajamas.
Now that my bandage has come off, I guess it’s about time I…
