Chapter 22 – I Want to Smell Youichi-San’s Scent [Sewa Sumire’s POV]
[Sewa Sumire’s POV]
After moving, Youichi-san began to focus on work. Youichi-san tries not to let me know, but I know that he can’t use his left arm properly.
From the day the bandage came off, he told me that he could take a bath by himself.
I was so sad that I secretly took a peek.
At that time, I saw him wincing as if he was in pain when bending his left arm.
I asked the doctor about it.
It seems that some nerves in his left hand are severed, and he might never regain his motor skills again.
Youichi-san stopped a stalker with a knife because of me.
He was willing to help me without caring about his own inconvenience.
Furthermore, he kept it from me and pretended to be okay.
But that’s not all.
He wanted to draw, so I became his model.
I wanted to praise whatever drawing Youchi-san created.
But when I first saw it in his draft, I was moved to tears.
This person is a person with great talent.
What if the arm that was injured by the knife was his right arm instead of his left arm…
I might have even taken away this talent.
Thinking such things made me terribly frightened and ashamed.
I almost stole Youichi-san’s life.
I came to see him not only as a man but also as a person worthy of respect.
Without considering himself, he helped me. How much gratitude and debt must I repay?
“I see, he sounds like such a wonderful person.”
“Yes, Mom. I want to support that person for the rest of my life.”
“Fufu, quite an early encounter of fate, isn’t it? Reporting your move and marriage at the same time.”
“It’s too early to talk about marriage. First, Youichi-san needs to rely on me. I’ll work harder from now on.”
“Oh, I wonder who you take after.”
When I called my mother to tell her about my move and my feelings for Youichi-san, she teased me, but I know that Mom also wants to take care of my father for the rest of her life.
“Ah, right. Is it okay if Mom brings Yumi to the house you just moved into?”
Yumi is my younger sister and is currently a high school student.
I haven’t seen her for about a year since I started living alone.
“Yeah, it’s okay. But not this week. Youichi-san’s working on a piece. I want to let him concentrate until he’s finished.”
“My, you’re already acting like a girlfriend. Alright then, we’ll visit next weekend.”
“Yes. I’ll let you know when he finishes his work, Mom.”
“Yes, yes. How nice to be young.”
After getting off the phone with Mom, I peeked into the room to see Youichi-san.
When he’s concentrating, he doesn’t notice anything else.
He doesn’t even notice when I enter the room.
Even though I don’t want to get in his way, I want to see him when he’s concentrating so seriously.
Because he looks really cool!
My favorite is definitely his profile.
No matter how much I look at Youichi-san’s face as he works on his computer screen with a serious look on his face, I never get tired of it.
Sometimes I worry that he would concentrate too much and forget to eat.
That’s why I sometimes use forceful methods to awaken his consciousness.
I would hug him from behind just as he pulled away from the computer screen to stretch.
“Huh?! What’s wrong?!”
“It’s almost lunch time, so let’s take a break.”
“Is it that time already?! I didn’t notice.”
Youichi-san’s concentration is amazing. He can work for two or three hours straight without a problem.
On the first day, I didn’t know how long it would last, so I left him alone.
Then, he sat in front of his computer without sleeping for over 12 hours.
But, interestingly, he would eat the tea and snacks I offered without realizing it.
Maybe he was unconsciously training himself to eat?
When I hold a sandwich up to his mouth, he takes a bite.
He’s so cute!
The feeling of taking care of someone is almost addictive.
That’s why on the first day, I made sandwiches for lunch and rice balls for dinner.
When I put pickled radish in his mouth, he said, “Ahnn!” with his mouth open and he ate it wholeheartedly.
Fufu, it’s really fun to watch.
However, it’s no good if he eats only simple foods.
Plus, I can’t let him spill food and dirty the computer screen.
“I made a Japanese-style grilled fish set meal for today’s lunch.”
“Wow, it’s so luxurious for lunch.”
“Yes! It’s special because you’re working so hard.”
“Thank you so much!!!”
Youichi-san isn’t very picky, but he doesn’t like bitter foods.
He wrinkles his face when he tastes the bitterness of fish innards, green peppers, or green beans.
He tries to avoid them, so when I pretend to cough, he makes an effort to eat them.
“Ugh…”
I don’t think he’s aware of it himself. But, I can see it.
And when I look at his expression, I can tell he feels indebted to me for taking care of him.
But that’s not true.
I’m the one who’s been helped, who’s being taken care of, and who’s being healed like this.
I want to depend on him and smell his scent.
I want to see every good thing about him.
Instead of becoming arrogant from being taken care of, he always remembers to be considerate towards me, and his apologetic attitude is so cute that I want to stay with him for the rest of my life.
