Chapter 13 – Thanks to Sumire-San
When starting work, the most important thing you need is a means of communication.
Recently, you can buy cheap carriers online and use them. However, there is no internet environment.
No, everyone could manage by bringing their laptops to places with free Wi-Fi, so we visited everyone’s favorite burger joint.
“Sumire-san, have you ever been to a store like this?”
“Of course I have! I’m not a very rich young lady, so it’s only natural!”
Sumire-san replied to my question as if it were obvious.
I’ve never seen her eat out before.
She always cooks, and everything is delicious. She’s good at cooking.
Back when I worked for Ijichi, breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all burgers, and sometimes chicken. It was also considered a business expense, treated as a welfare benefit, so it was ordered at random.
For me, the onigiri made by the editor was the most delicious.
Although she was younger than me, she was the closest in age to me, so I remember her being easy to talk to.
Maybe I can get a job if I contact her.
I don’t really want to contact her because of her connection with Ijichi, but let’s keep her as a last resort option.
“There were kids at school who were strictly forbidden to eat fast food. At home, if anything, you have to know various kinds of common sense to understand society. It is important to know the common sense of both the stock market and the world. That’s what my father taught me.”
Hmm. What’s with that? Those are some powerful words.
A household where fast food is not allowed? There wasn’t such a household in my neighborhood.
Is it because of allergies? And isn’t the scope of common sense about society and the world too global?
I see. When I imagine Sumire-san’s background, she seems like someone I definitely shouldn’t get involved with.
“Your father seems very capable.”
“Yes! But he’s absolutely useless at home.”
Oh? It feels a little familiar.
I can’t cook either, so I only ate cup noodles.
Well, maybe they hire maids because they earn a lot of money?
“My mother takes care of everything. My mother is the kind of person whose purpose in life is to take care of my father, and my mother also works as my father’s secretary at work and manages his schedule.”
“Huh?”
I guess that happens sometimes.
Sumire-san’s mother followed her father to work, so who raised Sumire-san?
“So, when I was little, I would go to my parents’ office to do my homework and hang out. Around high school, I started going home, so we had a car for pick-up and drop-off.”
“Oh, I see”
Yeah, she’s definitely a rich young lady.
What should I do? I’ve been staying at such a girl’s house for a while now. I have no idea about upper-class customs or etiquette at all.
Please don’t talk behind my back just because I made a mistake. Please.
“Anyway, if you’ve ever eaten here before, do you know how to order?”
“Of course. These days, it’s mobile ordering.”
“Huh, what’s that?”
“Youichi-san, you’re not up to date, are you?”
Eh? What is mobile ordering? Please refrain from bullying this old man with the latest information.
I’ve been a shut-in assistant manga artist for ten years.
Come to think of it, I think I used to ask another assistant or an editor to place the order.
“You can order in advance on your smartphone and it will be brought to your seat.”
“What?!!! It’s that convenient?! What an amazing evolution!!!”
“Fufufu, looks like I’m the one with common sense here.”
Damn! I thought she was a reserved young lady, but she knows more than me. I’ll just have to admit it.
“Please tell me how to order.”
I guess I have no pride left.
It’s no use being cool and know-it-all to someone who’s even helping me take a bath.
“Yes, of course.”
Even in a place like this, Sumire-san took care of me.
…
“What model should we get?”
“Anything is fine as long as it’s easy to use.”
Once the order was placed, we promptly decided to contract a smartphone from a well-known online shop offering cheap plans.
Since it was a new contract, they seemed willing to offer some discount on the model.
“In that case, why not go for the latest version of the same model I have?”
“The same? That might be better since I don’t know how to use it.”
The model I was using at work was an old one, so I really want a new one.
“Yes! I’ll teach you how to use it.”
“Argh!”
I ended up being taken care of here as well.
I hate my lack of knowledge about machines.
I purchased the latest SE model with the apple mark on the back. It seems that this version is the same as 13.
It seems that the charging terminal has just been changed, making it easier to use.
Since it’s an online order, it will take some time for the smartphone I purchased to arrive. It will be delivered to Sumire-san’s house.
In the end, I ended up relying on Sumire-san to take care of everything from ordering a burger to deciding on a smartphone model.
Junk food tastes delicious after a long time.
Sumire-san’s cooking is delicious, but sometimes you just crave that feeling of indulgence.
Afterwards, we went to the city hall.
I should have gone here first before going to a real estate agent.
The day I got fired, I was so upset that all I could think about was looking for a place to rent.
Once I receive my residence card, I should be able to rent a place as it will be used as proof by the real estate agent.
“So, both of your parents passed away, and you were evicted from your current address… Ah, indeed, your resident certificate has been voided. To revive it, you’ll need identification, but you don’t have an insurance card or a driver’s license. You’ll need a bank card.”
Since my parents died, I had left my resident certificate at my parents’ house, causing it to be voided.
Even though it could have been reissued within five years, I had left it for more than five years.
“What should I do?”
“Each citizen is presented with a resident certificate. You don’t have any ID, but since you have one bank card, we can contact the bank. It will be fine.”
Thanks to the kind staff at the City Hall, I was able to reissue the card.
It seems it will take about three days.
It was difficult to go through various procedures such as choosing a smartphone and getting my resident card.
But I was able to finish it all somehow because Sumire-san accompanied me and gave me advice.
I can’t help but keep relying on Sumire-san.
Is it really possible for me to reintegrate into society?
