Chapter 7: Encounter With the Girl Who Had Stolen Her Ex-boyfriend

“By the way… Shikino?”

“Hm? Yeah? What is it, Onii-chan?”

“Shikino… What do you think about your ex-boyfriend? Be honest with me. Do you still like me?”

Even though we were glued together, but I somehow managed to finish my lunch. In this quiet spot, where no one was around, I finally summoned the courage to ask the question I had been curious about. The question came as nonchalantly as I could. 

“Onii-chan, why are you asking me that all of a sudden? Is my ‘love’ for you still lacking? Am I not expressing my feelings enough?”

“No, no. That’s not it. In fact, I would prefer if you don’t cling to me any more than you already are. I just don’t know what to do when you’re like this.”

It felt like we were literally merging together. We were way too close and seriously, if someone were to see us like this, it would be bad for both of us. This wasn’t the kind of thing you should do at school. No matter what, you mustn’t get this close to someone of the opposite gender at school. 

“Fufufu~ You’re getting all bashful, Onii-chan~ So adorable~”

“Please stop talking like that. You’re making me even more embarrassed and besides, it feels like I’m running around within your palms.”

“Umm… Shikino-san…? Shikino-san, since when did you become the kind of person who refused to listen to others?”

Furthermore, Shikino was wrapping her limbs around me even tighter than before. How strange. When she was young, she was much more honest than this, but she always listened to anything I said. When did she start turning into an octopus and coiled her limbs around me like this? How strange… Well, not like I had any other choice. 

“It’s fine… Onii-chan… Onii-chan is so adorable, so… Shikino will answer anything you ask… Haah… Haah…”

“Yeah. Thanks. I really appreciate it, but… Shikino-san…? Why are you breathing so heavily like that…? Onii-chan is getting a little scared now… I mean, you’re not going to eat me or anything, right?”

“I’m not going to do that… No… o…”

“HII-!?”

I instinctively let out a loud screeching voice and tried to pry Shikino off me. She just bit my neck! My heart was racing as I looked down at Shikino and my little sister only stared back at me. There was a hint of surprise in her face, before she eventually gave me a meaningful, sultry smile. 

This is bad. This is definitely bad. 

Shikino-san had turned into an outrageous girl without me even realizing it. I definitely couldn’t tell her this, but a part of me understood why her ex-boyfriend ran away from her. Letting out a deep sigh, I sat back down in my original spot. Then, just like a magnet, Shikino quickly wrapped her arms around me. She was clinging to me again. She truly had no sense of boundaries. Didn’t she see how I reacted before? This girl…

“Alright, I will answer your question now, okay? I… Toward my ex-boyfriend… I really hate him now. In fact, I think he should just die.”

“You shouldn’t say something terrifying like that so nonchalantly.”

“Well, he’s the kind of a guy who ignored all the love I poured to him and went off with another girl. I absolutely can’t forgive him. He has no idea what I felt when I went out with him to seal the feelings I had for you, Onii-chan.”

“Umm… Don’t you think that kind of mindset is a bit too twisted…?”

“Twisted? How so?”

Shikino tilted her head to the side, looking genuinely confused at me. Her eyes seemed to look a bit cloudy. The light inside her eyes had all but disappeared. It was downright frightening. Looking at her now, it wouldn’t be strange for her to harm one or two people. 

“I-I mean…. It’s just… You said you loved him, but you also can’t forgive him…? I-It’s just… I don’t quite understand that.”

“But Onii-chan, he was the one who confessed to me, you know? Hence why, he should’ve prepared to be on the receiving end of my ‘love’ right? He should be okay with my kind of love. In fact, he looked happy with my love.”

“Well, maybe he was happy in the beginning, but as time passed… Maybe his opinions changed? I mean, the fact that he went off with another girl just because your love was too heavy for him… Don’t you see there are a lot of contradictions here?”

“….I don’t care anymore. Right now, I’m in a relationship with Onii-chan. Onii-chan is my boyfriend and that’s all that matters to me. After all.. For a long, long time… I’ve always thought I wouldn’t be able to be with you…”

Shikino said as she leaned her whole bodyweight to me. If I hadn’t braced myself, we would’ve toppled over sideways. All I could do was give her an exasperated smile and use my free right hand to pat her head. She grinned in return, looking very happy and content. 

Maybe… Maybe for now, this is enough. 

There were plenty of things I was curious about, but if these moments of happiness could go on forever… Maybe I didn’t need to worry about it. I silently wished in my heart that this peaceful time with Shikino could last forever. 

But of course, reality wasn’t that sweet. Just when I was about to close my eyes to embrace the cool autumn breeze… I suddenly heard someone letting out a surprised “Ah!” right in front of us. The sound was close. Really close. Startled, I snapped my eyes open and in front of us stood the two people I least expected to see. 

“…Oh my, oh my. Well, well, if it isn’t Unami-san and… Her big brother.”

It was none but Ryouta Sugisaki, Shikino’s ex-boyfriend and Megumi Orihara,the girl who had stolen Ryouta Sugisaki from Shikino. 

The two of them were standing right in front of us.
