Chapter 22: Abnormal Love Is Contagious
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
A day had passed since Shikino’s ex-boyfriend contacted her. After school ended, Shikino and I headed toward the family restaurant we had decided on beforehand. Although there were a few places near the school where we could talk, those places were far too public for our conversation. We already stood out as it was and walking together like this would only increase the chance of us being followed by our schoolmates. If we didn’t take the necessary precautions, we’d become easy targets for gossip-hungry onlookers.
With that in mind, we moved carefully. Upon arriving at the family restaurant, Shikino received a message from Sugisaki-kun.
『I’m already inside, near the right-back of the non-smoking section.』
So he’s already inside.
Regardless of the fact that Shikino was his ex-girlfriend, it just didn’t sit well with me that he would ask a girl to meet him only to get inside first. Well, whatever.
I took Shikino’s hand and led her inside the restaurant.
“Welcome! How many are in your party?”
A cheerful server greeted us. I told the server that we were meeting someone and set out to find Sugisaki-kun’s table myself. The right-back of the non-smoking section… As we walked through the restaurant, we found him at the spot he had mentioned. Sugisaki-kun was there and…
“I knew it.”
Orihara-san was there too, sitting next to him.
Instead of sitting facing each other, Sugisaki-kun and Orihara-san were seated side by side. This weird sight stood out unnaturally.
“O-Onii-chan…”
“It’s fine, Shikino. We’ve already anticipated this outcome after all.”
I gripped Shikino’s tense hand more firmly than before and walked toward the table where those two were seated. As we got closer to the table, Orihara-san turned her gaze toward us, as if she had anticipated our arrival.
“Oh my… I see you brought your big brother along… Or maybe your big brother tagged along because he’s worried about you?”
“That’s rich coming from you. In fact, I can say the same to you. Sugisaki-kun didn’t mention anything about you in his message to Shikino. I think YOU are the one feeling worried.”
“Fufufu~ You got me there. Indeed. I’m worried about Ryouta-kun. I mean, who knows what his terrible ex-girlfriend might do to him again? Besides, he never said I wouldn’t come, right? Please read his message more carefully, Onii-chan.”
Her way of speaking irritated me so much. Her gaze lingering on me like a mud, sinking into my very core. Whatever. Time to end our battle of wits… At least for now.
Together with Shikino, I took a seat on the vacant side of the booth. It was a relatively large booth seat, providing just enough coverage to keep us hidden from the view of other patrons. Even though we weren’t sitting in a private room, but this seat was good enough for us. Good enough for the conversation that was about to come.
“Then? Sugisaki-kun, what is it that you wanted to say to Shikino? I do have to say that it’s been quite a long time since you broke up with her.”
“Now, now, Mamori-kun. Can you please stop it? Even if you don’t rush him, Routa-kun here intends to properly tell Shikino-chan what he wants to say.”
“Oh, really? Funny, given that he’s been staring at the floor this whole time. He doesn’t look like someone who actually instigated this meeting.”
“Come on now… Ryota-kun? You came here to speak your mind to her out of your own accord, right…?”
Orihara-san said as she leaned even closer to Sugisaki-kun. Her voice was laced with a hint of poisonous seduction. Her voice was soft, but it carried an oddly sensual note. Sugisaki-kun immediately stiffened. His body was trembling slightly and a faint blush adorned his cheeks.
“Yes…”
He said and then he continued on.
“U-Ummm… Shikino…?
“…Don’t call me by my first name. You never called me by my first name when we were together anyway.”
“…Isn’t it fine? It’s not a big deal. I did sometimes though.”
“No, you didn’t. Besides, you were the one who said that I need to call you Sugisaki-kun.”
“But I also told you that you could call me whatever you want. I told you I didn’t really care about that.”
“That was because you didn’t give a damn about that. I don’t care either.”
“See? If any name is fine, then there shouldn’t be a problem if I call you by your first name. Shikino.”
“…!!”
Shikino, who had been arguing with her ex-boyfriend, suddenly hugged my arm and then…
“I hope you will stop calling me like that. After all, I’m dating my Onii-chan now.”
“…!!”
“It’s uncomfortable to see you bringing up the past like this. Besides, you were the one who said we should date even if I didn’t have any strong feelings toward you.”
“Tha-That was…”
“I’ve always loved Onii-chan! I love him! I love him so much and yet…. Because we are brother and sister on papers… I couldn’t say it out loud! I already told you that and you were the one who said you didn’t mind it! So Sugisaki-kun, what is it that you want now?! Why did you call me out like this…?! Why now?! I don’t really care what’s going to happen to me, but please stop bothering my boyfriend! Stop it! Please, just stop bothering us already!”
After saying everything on her mind with great intensity, Shikino was now breathing heavily. Though her words were clearly directed at Sugisaki-kun,but her words seemed to be piercing through Orihara-san too, who was now staring at Shikino coldly.
“Hmmm~ So that’s what you want to say, huh?~”
“…!”
While leaning her elbows on the table, Orihara-san said to Shikino.
“I don’t really know the exact details of what Ryouta-kun promised to you when you two started dating… But you know~ Ryouta-kun really loved you, you know?~ Isn’t that right, Ryouta-kun?”
In a slow, but pressuring tone, Orihara-san directed her question to Sugisaki-kun. Although it took him an awkward pause before he could respond, but Sugisaki-kun nodded firmly. Then, he quickly averted his gaze downward again only to glance over at Shikino with only his eyes, as if he was taunting her.
“See? Maybe you only used Ryouta-kun for appearance sake despite only having shallow feelings for him, but Ryouta-kun really liked you, you know?”
“…! Like I said—”
“Stop. Can you listen carefully until I finish speaking? Okay, Shikino-chan? You… You filthy woman.”
“Wha-What…?!”
“Being liked by someone is an incredibly precious and valuable blessing and yet… Shikino-chan used that blessing for her own selfish reason. Of course that makes you a filthy woman. Are you trying to tell me that you’re fine being a filthy woman?”
“S-Shut up! Shut up, shut up! That’s because I—”
“Could you please not throw a tantrum like a brat? Screaming won’t change anything, you know? Just answer with a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’. Are you fine with being a filthy woman? Yes? No? What’s your answer?”
“Shut up! This has nothing to do with you! This is between me and Sugisaki-kun—”
“Oh, but it does have something to do with me. After all, Routa-kun is my boyfriend now. When my boyfriend is in pain, it is my job as his girlfriend to help him. I’m merely doing my duty as his girlfriend by confronting his ex-girlfriend, the selfish girl who had tormented him. So? Stop running away by using lame excuses like that. Okay?”
“…!”
“Ufufufu~ Besides, if you don’t give me an answer, I might just kiss your Onii-chan here when you’re not around. After all, I also like Mamori-kun too, you know?~”
“….What….?”
“Huh…?”
Shikino’s voice dropped an octave at that. She was practically growling. I was so caught off guard by Orihara-san’s statement that I ended up letting out a confused ‘huh?’ as well.
“Ahahaha! Ufufufufu! Oh my, how scary~! Shikino-chan, don’t look at me like that! Your face looks so scary!~ It’s like you want to kill me for real!~ Fufufu~”
“…If that’s what you want, then I’m more than happy too…”
“Ohh?~ You’re serious about it?~ Fufu~ Alright. Go ahead and try.”
The moment Orihara-san said that with a mischievous smirk on her face, Shikino immediately grabbed a fork and stood up. She leaned over the table and aimed the fork at Orihara-san. It took all of my strength to stop Shikino. She had completely lost herself to rage. Next to Orihara-san, Sugisaki-kun let out a terrified yelp and stared at Shikino in terror. However, Sugisaki-kun wasn’t even included in Shikino’s mind. All she could see was Orihara-san, the girl who had provoked her. If I hadn’t stopped her, we’d have to witness bloodbath for sure. Somehow, I managed to hold Shikino down and tried to calm her down to the best I could. She was heaving, almost hyperventilating. Her pupils shrunk as she stared at me and tears began to flow from her beautiful, but bloodshot eyes.
“…Onii-chan…! Onii-chan, please…! Don’t leave me…!”
“I won’t. I won’t leave you. It’s okay. It’s okay.”
“Don’t go to that woman… Don’t kiss her.. Don’t touch her…”
“I won’t. I won’t go to that woman… I won’t do any of that… It’s okay… Calm down, Shikino.”
“Onii-chan… Onii-chan is mine… I absolutely… Absolutely, absolutely, absolutely, absolutely won’t let you go…”
Sugisaki-kun seemed to be taken aback as he watched us. Maybe he was influenced by Shikino’s intensity, or maybe what I said sounded too strange to him. Either way, none of that mattered.
No matter how broken Shikino might be.. Even if she was a complete mess… The fact still remained. I loved my little sister, all of her. I wouldn’t waver, no matter what Orihara-san said. If Orihara-san decided to pursue me, I would handle her calmly, no matter what happened.
“Onii-chan…”
“Hm?”
After glaring at Orihara-san, Shikino turned her gaze back to me and then, she moved her face closer to me. Her eyes, tinged with an ominous hue, seemed to glow in eerie light. And yet, they were astonishingly clear to me. Her eyes were focused solely on me. With her eyes like that, Shikino looked up and begged at me.
“Kiss me..?”
“…Huh?”
“We already kissed at school yesterday morning… So it doesn’t matter who sees us. No one can come between us… No one.”
Hearing Shikino’s words, Orihara-san burst out laughing. But then, the air around Orihara-san suddenly turned deadly cold as her expression shifted in an instant.
“Hey, are you stupid? We’re in public right now and standing right in front of you is your ex-boyfriend, who still has feelings for you. Can’t you be more considerate of other people’s feelings? Good grief. You’re truly a filthy woman, aren’t you?”
Hearing Orihara-san talking to her again, Shikino’s eyes, which had already fallen into darkness, gleamed in twisted light. She nodded and a thin smile spread on her lips.
“I don’t think I can. After all, just like me, Sugisaki-kun is also a filthy guy. He only dated me so he could show off to everyone around him. He’s nothing but worthless trash, just like me.”
Sugisaki-kun’s already pale face went paler. He looked gloomy. Shikino turned her gaze back to me and she only looked up at me. She was begging at me silently, begging me to kiss her. There was only one answer. After all, this was the exact reason why we had come here in the first place.
Without uttering anything in return, I pressed my lips against Shikino. There was no hesitation in my movement. I kissed her even more passionately than when we had been alone in her room. Our tongues intertwined. Lewd, squelching noises seemed to reverberate in my ear. Our mixed saliva dripped from the corner of our lips.
From the edge of my vision, I could see Sugisaki-kun vomiting on the spot. What a fool. He was the one who had laid his hands on my precious stepsister to inflate his ridiculous ego. He was the one who had tried to treat Shikino like a mere accessory, like a trophy.
I would never allow someone like him near Shikino again. Hence why, I had to make it clear. I had to make him know, to the deepest of his soul, that Shikino was never his. I had to make this fact loud and clear. Of course, Sugisaki-kun wasn’t the only person who had to understand this.
Megumi Orihara.
While my tongue was still deep in Shikino’s mouth, I glanced at Orihara-san from the peripheral of my vision. No matter how much Orihara-san tried to bring Shikino down, nothing would change my devotion toward Shikino. A strong, deep immoral love. Almost to the point of insanity. Even if Shikino was broken, even if Shikino tried to do something unthinkable… Even if she were to take someone’s life… I would still love her.
I will keep loving her. I will keep loving her. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER. I WILL KEEP LOVING HER.
I don’t mind even if the two of us fall together… That’s why…
“Nngh… Hayi… O-… Onii-chan… Nnh…♡”
“Haa… Haa… Fufu~ You’re so adorable, Shikino.”
There’s no gap for you to slide in between us, you know? Orihara-san…
This was probably the first time I ever saw her break out in a cold sweat. It felt satisfying. Chuckling softly, I gently stroked Shikino, who was clearly out of breath.
