Chapter 87

“That’s enough! The first round of training is now over! Now, switch partners for the second round! You have five seconds to find a new partner—now start!”

Hirose, still in shock from his skill having no effect on me, seemed lost. As I pondered what to say, the physical education teacher’s command broke through the tension, signaling the start of the next round, finding a new partner.

“Hirose. It’s the second round already,” I said, offering him a hand to help him stand.

“Y-Yeah…” he replied, accepting my hand and standing up.

“Don’t sweat it. Your skill probably just didn’t work properly this time. Don’t lose confidence, okay?” I said, trying to reassure him.

“Yeah… Un…” Hirose walked away slowly, still looking downcast, searching for his new partner.

As for me, after escorting Hirose, I quickly scanned the area for my next partner. I spotted a girl, Uzaki, standing around, looking a bit lost.

“Hey, Uzaki. Want to partner up?” I called out.

“Eh, me? Are you sure, are you okay with me, Ando-kun?” she responded, surprised.

“Of course,” I nodded.

“Okay! Thank you!” she said, brightening up.

Maybe because the time was running out, Uzaki quickly agreed, and we formed a pair.

“Alright! Is everyone paired up?” The teacher paused to look around, then scowled. “Hey Hirose! You still haven’t found a partner for yourself? What are you slacking off for!?”

“S-Sorry…”

“Look, there’s someone left over there! Go team up with them!!” the teacher barked.

“Y-Yes…”

“Geez, you’re always so enthusiastic during skill drills. What’s going on with you today?” the teacher added in frustration, pushing Hirose to his new pair.

Watching Hirose trudge away, I felt a twinge bit of guilt. But I turned my attention back to Uzaki, who was now standing nervously before me.

“Uh, l-let’s give this our best, Ando-kun.”

“O–Ou,”

I grab hold of Uzaki’s hand and shook it as she shyly put it forth.

“And, um… please go easy on me,”

“I understand.”

“So, um… can we go the skill declaration method? Umm, I’m a bit scared, doing it while not knowing what’s coming in for me…” Uzaki asked nervously.

I had no particular reason to refuse, so I accepted.

“Of course. I don’t mind,”

“Well then, who would go and speak about their skill first?”

“Th–then… can I ask you to go at it first?”

“Roger that.”

And so, it was decided that I would start with explaining my skills.

Just like I did with Hirose before, I conjured a small fireball in my hand and showed it to Uzaki.

“My skill is to manipulate fire, something like that. I can create fireballs like this… and throw them like this,” I explained, launching the fireball into the sky.

Uzaki’s eyes roll as she follows the fireball.

“Wow, so fast…! What an amazing skill!”

“Thanks,” I smiled.

“The–then, And, um… about my skill… ehtto, it’s kind of a really unfair…”

“Unfair skill?”

“Un… Please don’t get disgusted with it. The thing is, my skill is to reduce my opponent’s stamina…”

“Stamina drain?”

“Yeah… when I use it, the other person starts feeling weak, dizzy, and… if I make the skill too strong for them, they might even pass out… Ahahaha, it’s kind of a weird ability, isn’t it…”.

“Not at all. That’s a pretty strong skill, if I should say” I said.

So in other terms, it’s some sort of debuff skill, huh? Even this person, just like Hirose, seemed to hold a very unusual skill as well. But, certainly not a weak skill at all.

“R-Really? Thank you… I always thought it was kind of a sneaky power myself, so I wasn’t very confident about it… but hearing that makes me feel better.” Uzaki exclaimed with her cheeks puffed out cutely in reaction.

“We, well then, …shall we get started already…”

Now that we have showed our skills to each other, we got ourselves prepared to start the training session, taking positions at a reasonable distance from each other.

“Ando-kun…! Please, be gentle…! I’m not confident on dodging those fast fireballs of yours!”

“I got it. Don’t worry,”

“I-I also won’t use my skill of stamina-drain at full power either… I can control how strong it is, so I’ll make it as weak as possible!”

“Nope, you can go all out with it if you can,” I said casually.

“N-No way! If I do that, Ando-kun, you might pass out!”

Uzaki looked quite worried about causing harm to me.

With both of us agreeing to hold back our skills, our training began.

“You can take the first move,”

“U-Un…! Here I go…!” Uzaki hesitated but raised her arm toward me.

As usual, I let Uzaki get the first move, as she moved her hand pointing towards me.

“S-Stamina drain…! Weak version!” Uzaki shouted, activating her skill.

“…?”

There was no particular change to my body. It is at a level that I feel doubtful on whether she used a skill at all.

“You can go a bit stronger if you want to,” I suggested.

“H-Huh really? Even with the weak version it made my friends feel lightheaded… Are you sure you’re not feeling anything?”

“Yeah, I’m totally fine,”

I jumped, to appeal to Uzaki that nothing was wrong.

Seeing that, Uzaki steeled herself, and once again moved her hands towards me for another try.

“Al–alright… then, here I go again! Stamina drain… medium version!” she called out the second phase of her skill against me.

“…?”

Hovewer, even this time, I felt nothing happen at all.

What did she really do, did the skill even activate? I have no idea at all.

“Hey Uzaki, nothing’s happening at all. Are you sure you’re using your skill?” I asked, genuinely puzzled.

“E-Ehhhh… This should’t be?! Even the medium version should make most people pass out…! Are you really feeling nothing at all, Ando-kun!”

Uzaki’s eyes widen when he sees me doing all right.

“Yeah, I felt nothing happening at all. Why don’t you try the full power just for sake?”

“T-The full power?! I–if I do that, you can die! that’s way too dangerous! I used it on a bug once just the other day, and it died!!”

“It’s all fine. Nothing happened to me until now, right?”

“I — I wonder if it’s true…”

“Don’t worry, there’s no way I will die.”

“O-Okay… if you say so… then, here it goes…!”

As if she had made up her mind, Uzaki once again turned her arm towards me and activated the skill.

“Skill… Stamina!! Serious full version!!”

“…”

I thought some kind of change would definitely occur in my body this time, but once again nothing happened at all once again.

If this comes to this point, it’s doubtful whether Uzaki is actually using her skills at all…

“Uzaki… I am not feeling anything at all, are you sure you’re using your skill properly?”

“You’re kidding… How can this be…

Uzaki fell to her knees, completely bewildered.

“I-I don’t understand… I used my full strength, yet… nothing happened at all… Ando-kun, who… just who are you?!”

“Eh…?”

“Ando-kun… To you, no matter how much I try to drain your stamina, it just won’t go down. It’s like you have infinite reservoir of energy… Are you even human?”

Uzaki, who repeated similar sentence to me as Hirose, I found myself at a loss for words.
