I probably never broke a cold sweat this fast before. I had done something truly outrageous. Thinking she was still asleep, I poked Neiko-san’s cheek repeatedly while… While… While…!!!

She softly called my name and I responded back, despite my voice cracking. I was standing beside the bed and for some reason, I struck a salute post. I couldn’t bring myself to look at her, who was still half-naked. 

“…Good morning…”

“Go-Good morning… I-I-I haven’t received… My morning greeting yet…”

“Ri-Ri-Ri-Right…! That’s right…!! Good morning! I-I-I-I-I just realized I hadn’t greeted you yet…! Ha… Hahaha… Hahahaha…!!”

I forced a smile out of desperation and an awkward silence ensued between us. It was so painfully awkward. Judging from the situations, it was clear to see that Neiko-san was already awake. She was fully aware of everything I had done and said. 

If there’s a hole, I would want to crawl in and commit seppuku there.

It was too embarrassing. I was so embarrassed I really felt like dying. I couldn’t care less what was going to happen to me. It was too much… I really couldn’t believe I actually said all that out loud…!

“A-A-kun…?”

Just like before, Neiko-san softly called my name again. Her face was bright red. Even the tip of her ears were dyed in red as she snuggled deep under the covers. No doubt about it. She definitely heard everything I said. There was no doubt about it!!

I was flustered, but hearing her say the word ‘class’ snapped me back to reality. While trying to calm my pounding heart, I asked Neiko-san a question.

“Wha-What classes do you have today…? I-I-If you don’t mind, I can match my schedule with you again…”

I couldn’t speak fluidly because of how embarrassed I was. I was feeling incredibly awkward, but I wasn’t the only one feeling that way. Neiko-san was hiding her mouth with the blanket while fidgeting. Her voice was so quiet that I could barely hear her. She was as embarrassed as I was.

“Today…. I only have the third period…”

“I-I see…. O-Only the third period, huh?”

“Ye-Yes… What about you, A-kun…?”

“I… I actually don’t have a class in the third period. I only have a class on the second period, the fourth and then the fifth period…”

“We-Well, that’s perfect then… I can watch over you in the second period… Of course, I’ll be watching over you in the fourth and fifth periods too…”

“N-No! Yo-You can’t…!! I-I’m keeping you confined here so yo-you won’t do that kind of thing anymore…!’

“…My apologies.”

Neiko-san withdrew without any fuss. She was quick to apologize, more so than I expected. I was a bit taken aback. I thought she would throw a tantrum, but contrary to my expectation, she actually agreed to me so quickly. But then, I suddenly realized. Right. The reason why Neiko-san was covering her mouth and nose with the comforter… It was because that was the comforter I normally used. She must be in a good mood because she was smelling it. 

Now that I understood the reason why, I climbed onto the bed where she was without much thinking. And then, although I had already told myself to be careful…
