In June, it was the rainy season. The protagonist, Ichika Kokonoe, was gazing at the school courtyard through the classroom window as heavy rain poured down. The gloomy, overcast sky darkened Ichika’s mood. On days like this, it was better to go home early. On top of that, he had a feeling that something bad was about to happen.

“Give me a break already! You’re too clingy!”

Just as Ichika was thinking that he should head home early, he happened to witness the beautiful girl from his class, Futaba Jujoji, being harshly dumped by a male student who said those very words to her. After being verbally abused and rejected, Futaba ran off in tears.

There was one major regret Ichika carried in his heart. When he was a child, he had once abandoned a girl who was crying. At the time, he had not been able to gather the courage to speak to her. That girl transferred schools soon afterward, and he never learned why she had been crying, nor whether her troubles were ever resolved.

If I had found the courage to speak to her back then, would she have been saved?

He had failed to save a crying girl. That regret had remained in Ichika’s heart for a long time. He did not want to experience the same regret ever again. With that resolve, Ichika began searching for Futaba in the pouring rain. After somehow managing to find her, Ichika desperately encouraged and comforted her without stopping.

Perhaps because of his efforts, a smile gradually began to return to Futaba’s face. And with that, the matter should have been settled… or so he thought. However, Futaba began directing those “heavy” feelings she had been accused of having toward Ichika instead.
