Saito’s words left me unable to do anything for several months…in the end, I can’t confess to Miyauchi-kun and we remain just friends. Then, Umi-chan, who started dating Miyauchi-kun, told only me about it for some reason. She told me not to tell anyone, saying she wants to keep is a secret that they’re dating.

And so, I became friends with Umi-chan.

I’m not sure how it started, but I think we gradually became closer as we talked about Miyauchi-kun. However, I’m curious as to why Miyauchi-kun, who never talks to anyone in class, would only talk to Umi-chan.

I think there’s something between them that I don’t know about.

Unlike when he talks to me, he looks happy when he’s with Umi-chan.

I can’t help but blame myself for not being able to compete with Umi-chan, thinking that boys like cute girls like her. After all, I’m just a normal girl.

Then, one day…I receive a call from Umi-chan.

‘What’s wrong, Umi-chan?’

‘Fuyuko-chan, I have something I want to ask you. Would you listen?’

‘Eh? Something you want to ask me? What is it?’

‘It seems like my boyfriend might be cheating on me…’

‘Eh? Miyauchi-kun? Are you sure? There’s no way he would cheat on you, right?’

That’s right, Miyauchi-kun would never cheat.

I’ve been watching him for over six months now. Miyauchi-kun is not they type of person who would do something like that.

I can’t understand why she would say such a thing.

‘What’s the thing you want to ask me?’

‘Can you stay close to Kanata-kun? If he does anything weird, just tell me right away. It’s not that hard, right’

‘……’

‘Fuyuko-chan?’

‘Ah, yeah…I understand.’

I think most people would say ‘What are you talking about?’, but unfortunately, I can’t say anything.

Instead, I think, ‘Isn’t this a good opportunity?’

Unlike Saito-kun, Miyauchi-kun is always kind to me. I enjoy teaching each other our favourite subjects when we’re alone in the classroom after school. So, I can’t turn down Umi-chan’s request. I thought as long as we can be together, such trivial things don’t matter…

It’s so much fun.

After school, Umi-chan would immediately go home, saying she’s busy. So, I spend most of my time with Miyauchi-kun. He hasn’t decided on a goal yet, but he said he wants to go to a good university first, so we study really hard.

I really love those times.

However, I also wonder why Umi-chan lets me to spend time with her boyfriend. On top of that, Miyauchi-kun spends most of his time studying and working part-time. He has never done anything suspicious. The more I think about it, the more questions keep popping in my head.

I don’t understand why she asked me for such a thing.

In the two weeks I spend with Miyauchi-kun, nothing really happened. In fact, he asked me about the things Umi-chan likes…I thought that it’s already pointless.

I see the two of them walking together happily in the city.

Umi-chan, and Saito-kun, who is laughing beside her.

I don’t know why those two are together, but they look really close with each other.

I’m not stupid. From the atmosphere, I immediately understand. Umi-chan has never liked Miyauchi-kun from the beginning…the fact that she is on a date with Saito-kun in such a place means that she has never been interested in Miyauchi-kun. That realization turns into certainty.

So, I keep my eyes on them for almost a year.

Then, I try to find out more about it.

“Saito-kun, have you found someone you like recently? You’re always in class, but I haven’t seen you around lately.”

Saito-kun has been with Umi-chan all this time. He’s interested in her.

That’s why I want to break up Umi-chan and Miyauchi-kun. She asked me for such a strange favour…meanwhile she is secretly enjoying herself with Saito-kun. The reason she asked me to do that is because she wants to keep her relationship with Saito-kun a secret, right? How ridiculous.

So, the day they go to the family restaurant…I secretly follow them.

But what I see there isn’t the two of them cheating…instead, it’s Miyauchi-kun with a girl I don’t know. I take a picture of the two of them holding hands, thinking that will definitely ruin Umi-chan’s relationship with Miyauchi-kun—

But that’s naïve of me.

There must’ve been a better way, but I was so focused on making them break up…because I was only thinking about being happy with Miyauchi-kun. That’s why I sent the photo to Saito-kun.

Scum…should just date scums.

I wasn’t wrong.

I thought that was the right thing to do. I hated those two—

At the start of the new semester, Miyauchi-kun calls out to me…but I have no choice but to ignore him.
