Chapter 57: The Outcast Touches on the Nation’s Top Secret Information
“Wow, you’re amazing, Tsukushi-kun! Being called by the Prime Minister and all…!”
“Shh, keep it down, Miyu…!”
— An hour after the award ceremony. I was walking through the streets of Ginza with Miyu.
The area was dotted with shops selling expensive-looking clothes, high-end restaurants not easily accessible to high school students, and stylishly dressed passersby.
It wasn’t exactly a place for a born introvert like me, but there was a reason Miyu and I were here.
— “I have something I’d like to discuss with you personally. If possible, please come to this location around 2 PM today. If you can’t make it, please contact this number at a later date”
That’s what was written on the note secretly passed to me by Prime Minister Kunieda.
He couldn’t have extended such an invitation in a public setting, so he must have discreetly hidden the note in his sleeve before handing it to me.
And the address on that note was here in Ginza.
He had even thoughtfully noted that it was okay for Miru Ayatsuki to accompany me. Since Miyu had been at the National Honor Award ceremony, he probably realized she might come along.
“Ufufu, I’m so proud, Tsukushi-kun. Not only did you receive the National Honor Award, but now you’re becoming friends with the Prime Minister♪”
“F-friends with the Prime Minister…”
In this case, Miyu didn’t receive the National Honor Award.
In fact, it seems she was approached for the award by the Cabinet Office. However, due to her family’s past involving a “runaway car accident” five years ago, she declined the award considering the circumstances.
This act of declining the award itself was reported by the media, significantly boosting Miyu’s public image. Comments like “Too humble for a high school student” and “She should have been forgiven long ago” circulated.
In this sense, even having our past exposed by Yayoi Goyama somehow ended up boosting our popularity, though that’s not something to say aloud.
“But… are we really in the right place?”
I murmured, looking around.
The shops near the station gradually disappeared, and now our surroundings were filled with many residential buildings. The area, befitting of Ginza, was elegant and refined.
“Hmm, but it doesn’t seem like we’re mistaken.”
She had used a map app to search for the address, and it appeared we were at the right place.
Could it be that the Prime Minister himself was inviting us to his home? That seemed unlikely.
“Welcome. You must be Kirishima-sama and Ayatsuki-sama, right?”
While we were looking around, a woman in a suit approached us.
“Who are you?”
“I apologize for not introducing myself sooner. I am Nakabe, the Secretary to the Prime Minister. Please to meet you.”
Responding to my hesitant inquiry, the woman named Nakabe presented a business card.
Naturally, I accepted it, but as a mere high school student, I had no card to offer in return.
When I apologized for this, she smiled and said,
“No worries at all. Should there be an opportunity, please feel free to contact me at this number.”
“Prime Minister Kunieda is already waiting for Kirishima-sama. If you’re ready, I can guide you now. Shall we proceed?”
“Ah, that’s fine but… Does Prime Minister Kunieda live around here?”
“Oh no, it’s not like that. He’s waiting in a top secret dungeon managed by the government.”
“A top secret dungeon…!?”
I had never heard of such a thing, but then I wondered…
“Back then, the bureaucrats from the Dungeon Administration Ministry were wearing armor that I’ve never seen before. Is it like that? A dungeon not open to the public…?”
“You’re very perceptive, Kirishima-sama. Exactly as you say.”
Nakabe replied with a smile. She then walked into the property of a nearby house and unlocked the door with her keys. Miyu and I followed her inside.
“Ah…!”
Miyu exclaimed loudly the moment we stepped into the house.
“The entrance to the dungeon…! So, this house is just a camouflage…!?”
“Yes, precisely.”
As Miyu pointed out, the inside of the house was empty. There were no furnishings, no television, just a literal void of space.
It seemed that only the electricity was functional, but besides that, the space was an empty void—except for the dungeon entrance leading underground, which exuded an odd presence.
“Please follow me. Since the Prime Minister himself visits, there won’t be any dangerous creatures. Rest assured.”
