Chapter 24: Karma, Part 2 – No, Really, Just Talking Common Sense
“Hehehe… Kirishima. Do you know why they call me the ‘God of Destruction’ at Tsukishima High School?”
As Goyama fiddled with his status screen, various pieces of equipment materialized.
“It’s simple, really. Because I’m strong. There’s nothing I can’t destroy.”
As he spoke, the equipment Goyama donned was indeed formidable.
The greatsword he held with both hands was likely known as the “Nokin Sword.” Its blade, shrouded in pitch-black, along with the red jewels embedded at various points, emitted an undeniably evil aura.
[TLN- I’m assuming this Nokin is “脳筋” which means- muscle-brain; meathead; hot-blooded idiot; person who charges in before thinking]
The same could be said for his armor. It was a large suit designed primarily in black, and it seemed to radiate a dark aura.
“Hahaha, cool, isn’t it? This Me.”
Goyama struck various poses, as if to show off his equipment.
To be honest, it was somewhat cringeworthy, but of course, I kept that sentiment to myself.
“This full set of equipment? I got it after hunting the Black Dragon Geete time and time again. It was a real hassle, you know…”
Impressive. The Black Dragon Geete is a B-class monster, and hunting it multiple times would undoubtedly be taxing. I can’t say I don’t understand the urge to brag about it.
“In contrast, what’s with that sword of yours?”
Goyama pointed at me, wearing his usual mocking expression.
“Even I can tell, you know? The Red Dragon’s Extreme Magic Sword—You’ve wasted such valuable material on a joke weapon. You’re an idiot, a total waste.”
“Um, can we move on? I really dislike men who do nothing but bad-mouth others.”
Miyu intervened from the side. The latter half of her line was delivered in an unusually cold tone; I was sure it wasn’t just my imagination.
“Ah, yes, sorry…”
Goyama fell silent, unusually submissive in the face of Miyu’s comment.
“Alright, let’s start the duel. It ends when one of you surrenders or when I say stop. Okay?”
At Miyu’s question, both Goyama and I nodded in agreement.
And then—
“Start!”
With Miyu’s shout as the signal,
“Raaaaaaargh! Die!” Goyama charged at me with great momentum from the get-go.
“Attack Power Up (High). The strike from the God of Destruction! Eat thisssss!”
—Seriously? I’d recently withstood attacks from the Red Dragon multiple times. Logically, he should understand that he can’t win with that skill alone.
I’d assumed he’d watched my broadcast the day before yesterday, given his behavior.
Could it be that he has some deeper strategy?
That would make sense. After all, as an explorer, he’s far more experienced than I am.
—Clang.
I parried Goyama’s descending greatsword with my own blade. Of course, I activated my “Ignore Rules” ability to “Ignore Opponent’s Attack Power” before doing so.
“Ha…?”
Was he shocked? Goyama’s eyes widened as I nonchalantly blocked his attack.
“Hey… why… why were you able to block it?”
“Didn’t you watch my broadcast the day before yesterday? This should be obvious.”
“This is obvious, you say…?”
Goyama’s expression twisted once more.
“Y-You dare to mock me, Kirishima?! You’ve got some nerve, haaaa?”
“No, you misunderstand. I’m just stating the obvious.”
“Yooou bastard!!!”
For some reason, Goyama erupted in rage.
He continued to shower me with sword strikes again and again, but to be blunt, they were lackluster. Goyama is a senior explorer and has even collaborated with popular streamers. I couldn’t help but think he must have some other plan up his sleeve.
“Let’s see.”
As a test, I flicked my sword to the side, sending him flying with a strange, shrill cry:
“Pryaaaaaaa!!”
Thud—Boom!
Despite crashing forcefully into the wall, he got back up effortlessly, likely due to his high-quality equipment.
“Hah… hah… damn it…”
His breathing was remarkably ragged. Could it be he was tired? That seemed unlikely.
“I won’t forgive this…! Time to use my trump card!”
Saying so, Goyama started fiddling with his status screen.
As I thought, he did have some sort of plan.
It’s unthinkable that Goyama, who is respected throughout the school, would simply charge at me like a one-trick pony.
With that thought in mind, I activated two new abilities— “Ignore Fire Magic Restrictions” and “Ignore MP Limit.”
