Adventurer of Flash - 07 - Adventurers’ Guild and Familiar Registration
Chapter 07: Adventurers’ Guild and Familiar Registration
The bicorn foal started to think for a moment after hearing my words.
It seemed to understand human language to some extent. Quite intelligent. After glancing at its herd, it seemed to make up its mind and approached me.
“Does this mean you’re coming with me?”
“Brr.”
“Alright, from now on, we’re partners. I’m going to cast the familiar magic.”
In this world, there is a type of non-elemental magic known as familiar magic. It’s not uncommon for adventurers to have familiars. Of course, I had also learned this magic.
I gently placed my hand on the bicorn’s head and cast the familiar magic. I could feel a magical link forming between us.
“Okay, from now on, your name is X. Nice to meet you.”
“Brru!”
Thanks to the familiar magic, I could somewhat understand what X was thinking.
It was a mix of sadness and relief. I thought it would be more wary, but X was very smart and seemed to know from the start that coming with me was the best decision.
“Heyy, Father!”
“What is it, Al?”
“I brought back the bicorn foal mentioned in the report.”
“Wha- really? But…”
“This subjugation battle would have been dangerous without me, right? Right?”
I approached with a stern face.
“Well, yeah…”
“Right?”
“Alright, I get it. Make sure to register it at the Adventurers’ Guild.”
“Okay, I’ll take care of my registration too while I’m at it.”
That day, when I brought X back to the mansion, my family and the servants didn’t fear it at all; in fact, they rather adored it.
Even though X was a B-rank creature, everyone, especially my sister Rei, showered it with affection.
“This little one is so cute~♡”
The Ainsberg Marquis estate is very large, with plenty of stables and several grooms working there. I took X to the stables, but it hated it so much that it threw a fit.
Yesterday, after I reported to everyone, X was bathed and then feasted on a meal prepared by the head chef.
It then ended up sleeping in my sister’s room, as she had taken it there.
===========================================
The next morning, after breakfast,
“Kael, where is X?”
“He is sunbathing in the garden.”
“I see. He’s quite a free spirit, isn’t he?”
I said, exasperated.
“They say familiars take after their masters.”
“You’re so noisy.”
Afterward, I had the head chef prepare food for X, took it to him, and fed him.
“Morning, Father!”
“Oh, Al, you’re up early.”
“I’m heading to the Adventurers’ Guild to complete the registration for me and X.”
“I see. Then take this letter with you. It should help speed up the process.”
“Got it, thanks.”
“By the way, there are rumors about you spreading in Balkut.”
“Is it about yesterday?”
“Yes, it is.”
“Ugh…”
While chatting like this, Kael and I, along with X, headed to the Adventurer’s Guild.
Luckily, the guild building was close to the Marquis estate, so we walked.
As we walked, I heard people talking:
“Hey, is that the one from the rumors?”
“But an S-rank monster is city disaster level, right? Is it true?”
“That’s rude, you know!”
“That’s ‘Flash’!”
“The foal behind him is kinda cute too.”
Amidst the whispers, we quickly arrived at the guild. I put X in the guild’s stable. Though he resisted, he had to endure it.
“I always thought this was a big building, but seeing it up close, it’s even more impressive.”
“This is the largest guild in the Ainsberg Marquisate.”
“It’s something to be proud of.”
Entering the guild was awe-inspiring. Adventuring is quite a popular profession in Balkut, a city of 3 million people, so the building was bustling with people.
Some were having breakfast in the attached tavern, while robust adventurers were debating in front of the quest board. The gender ratio was about even.
We joined the line for the beginners’ reception, observing the busy scene.
“Mornings are always crowded.”
“Indeed, it’s lively with everyone competing for quests.”
Honestly, I half-expected to be approached by veteran adventurers as a cliché guild experience, but since I was quite famous in this city, no one bothered me.
In reality, there are quite a few young people who underestimate the job of an adventurer, and this kind of thing is often done to correct their attitude. (Some just want to cause trouble, but you can usually tell by looking at their eyes.)
“Thank you for waiting. How can I help you today?”
“I’m here to register as an adventurer and also to register my familiar.”
“Understood. Please fill out your name and personal information on this form, and the familiar’s details on this other one.”
“Oh, before that, take this.”
I had completely forgotten about the letter from my father. When I handed it over, the receptionist checked it and hurriedly said,
“P-Please wait a moment!”
She disappeared into the back. After a short wait, we were ushered into a room that was clearly for VIPs. Inside was a beautiful elven woman.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Meril, the guild master of the Balkut branch.”
“I’m Arte von Ainsberg, the second son of the Ainsberg Marquis family. This is my butler, Kael.”
Kael bowed his head.
“Also, you can speak casually with me.”
“Oh, really? Then I’ll take you up on that.”
“So, why was I brought here?”
“First, I want to thank you for yesterday. If it weren’t for you, who knows what would have happened to this city…”
“No need to thank me. It’s my duty to protect this entire territory.”
“As expected of ‘Flash.’ Next, about the bicorn. I’ve already heard most of the story from the adventurers who were part of the subjugation team. You’re here to register it as your familiar, right?”
“Yes, and also to register myself as an adventurer.”
“Alright. We already have your information in our guild, so we’ll take care of everything.”
“I see, thank you.”
“Then, please take this.”
Meril handed me a C-rank adventurer tag.
“Is it okay not to start from G-rank?”
“Yes. We can’t afford to leave an adventurer who can solo an S-rank monster at a low rank. The guild can issue compulsory requests to adventurers ranked C and above, which helps us as well.”
“I see, the guild master has a lot of authority.”
“Well, the guild master needs either the recommendation of the city’s lord where the branch is located or the recommendation of an S-rank adventurer. There’s hardly anything more trustworthy than the recommendation from the ‘Great Ogre.'”
“This is helpful for us as well.”
“One last thing I need to tell you.”
“What is it?”
“You know there are several dungeons in the Ainsberg territory, right?”
“Yes.”
“Recently, one of them, the A-rank dungeon ‘Empire Insect’s Nest,’ has seen a rise in monster numbers. It might overflow in a few years, so be careful.”
“Understood.”
“Awakened ones really are something else.”
After officially becoming a C-rank adventurer, I returned to the Marquis estate with X and Kael.
“A dungeon, huh. I think I can handle an A-rank dungeon, but the issue is my magic power.”
As an awakened one, I naturally have a vast amount of magic power, but it isn’t infinite.
“It would be easier if there was sunlight. Wait… maybe this method could work.”
I thought about the properties of light. Unlike other elements, light is fast, has no mass, and reflects and refracts. In space, it continues to travel unless something blocks it.
I recalled an experiment from my previous life involving infinite light reflection.
“What if I make light reflect infinitely within my magic core? Wouldn’t that mean infinite magic power?”
In this world, creatures have an organ called a magic core beside their heart, which generates and absorbs magic power.
Monsters have a magic stone within this organ. Humans, however, do not have magic stones.
Thinking it might not be so easy, I went out into the garden. I decided to experiment next to the lazy horse napping in the sun. When I tried,
“It actually worked. Given the properties of light, this makes sense, but is this because I’m an Awakened?”
Since becoming an Awakened, the sensations within my magic core had changed a bit, which might be related. I’m not sure, but I’m happy nonetheless.
“X, rejoice! I’ve become a walking infinite battery!”
“ZZZ”
I poked the belly of the lazy horse, full from its meal, and celebrated my discovery.
Two more years passed, filled with training in swordsmanship and magic, occasionally taking guild requests with X. Now, I am fourteen years old.
In these two years, I became an A-rank adventurer. My skills in swordsmanship and magic control, as well as my physique, grew significantly, turning me into a respectable young man. By frequently accepting and completing all requests, I became the youngest A-rank adventurer in history.
My brother became a second-year student at the “Kanan Imperial Magic Knight Academy” in the capital, while my sister underwent the selection ceremony and received aptitude in all elements, becoming a brief sensation in the empire.
Additionally, a large stable was built in the Marquis estate’s garden just for X, who had grown into a magnificent adult horse. As expected of a B-rank creature, X had a formidable physique and presence. Being a bicorn with lightning attributes, the magic power within X filled the surrounding air with a tingling sensation. I had given all the magic stones from the defeated monsters to X, so it might be close to evolving.
“X, you’ve grown big. Right, Rei?”
“Even bigger, he’s still so cute!”
“Brr.”
Currently, my brother is attending the academy in the imperial capital, Kanan, and living in a mansion there.
My sister, Rei, is now twelve years old and has become a fine young noble lady. Our parents remain doting and are delighted with our growth.
“Alright, time for some action today.”
[TLN – Changed Arte’s father’s title from “the Demon God” to “the Great Ogre” for obvious reasons.]
