- Actually, There’s Someone at Your Workplace Who Likes You ~ I’m Being Transferred to a Sales Office Filled With Only Beautiful Women!?
- Chapter 13: Rinta Desperately Asks For Help
I had to make sure that Kozakai-san wouldn’t be disliked by Hikawa-san.
So, I desperately asked Hikawa-san for this favor.
“From now on, I’ll be working closely with Kozakai-san. I’ll be taking responsibility for your company alongside her, and I’ll make sure to properly support her to avoid any mistakes. Please continue to work alongside Kozakai-san!”
Then, Hikawa-san said something very surprising.
“Are you Kozakai-san’s superior?”
“Oh, no. Kozakai-san and I joined the company the same year.”
“You and Kozakai-san are in the same year…”
Hikawa-san looked surprised. I wondered why?
“Because you’re so desperate to support Kozakai-san, I thought for sure you must be her superior. But I guess not.”
“Ah, yes.”
“You mentioned you transferred here yesterday, didn’t you?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“Then why are you, someone who just met her, working so hard to support Kozakai-san when you’re not even her superior?”
“Well, um… Kozakai-san is my colleague by chance. We’re working together here, and because she caused trouble for your company, I wanted to support her. It’s not just for her, but for your company too, so I thought I should follow up and work together to make things right.”
“Really…”
Hikawa-san’s expression suddenly softened.
She let out a voice as if she were really impressed and smiled. I felt relieved too.
“It’s like rugby, isn’t it? ONE for ALL, ALL for ONE… right? One for all, and all for one, is that what it’s called?”
“Ah, no, it’s not as cool as that. Also, I’m not a rugby player, I was in the soccer club.”
“You were in the soccer club, Hirabayashi-san?”
Hikawa-san, who had been pretty serious up until then, unexpectedly became very interested when I mentioned the soccer club.
Her eyes widened in surprise, even through her glasses.
Was it really that rare to be from the soccer club?
No, I’d understand if I had said I was from the kabaddi club. But being from the soccer club, there were so many people like that.
Oh, by the way, kabaddi was that sport from India where you had to chant “kabaddi, kabaddi, kabaddi…” while attacking.
“Yeah, I was in the soccer club. Up until middle school and high school.”
“Could it be… did you go to Shimizu East High School?”
“Huh? Yes… but how do you know, Hikawa-san?”
“Oh, I was the manager for the Shimizu South High School soccer team. When we played against East High, there was this really passionate player, and it left a strong impression on me.”
What a coincidence.
Oh, wait… but…
My high school was in the same city as this one.
It was a small regional city, so it was not that surprising that there might be some connection between people from the same generation.
After a little more conversation, I found out that Hikawa-san was two years older than me.
So, when I was in my first year of high school, during the match we played, Hikawa-san was a third-year student serving as the manager for the opposing team.
Once I understood that, Hikawa-san and I became much more at ease with each other.
“I remember thinking back then that you were a little awkward, but really passionate. Looks like that hasn’t changed.”
“Ahaha, it’s a bit embarrassing to hear that. Feels like I haven’t grown at all.”
“That’s not true. It’s good if the things that are good don’t change.”
“Thank you.”
“Hirabayashi-san, don’t worry about Kozakai-san. I will never ask to change the person in charge.”
“Ah, thank you so much!”
I was glad. I was really relieved to hear that…
“But you know, Kozakai-san is lucky.”
“Huh? What do you mean?”
“To have a colleague like you.”
“That’s not true. I’m sure she finds me annoying.”
“Really!? That’s a shame. Why?”
“Ah, well… I’m not really sure myself… maybe because I often point things out to her directly?”
“I see, I see. But from the way you were acting earlier, I can tell that you really care about Kozakai-san, right?”
“Well, that’s what I intend to do.”
“Then that’s good. Hirabayashi-san, you’re kind both in how you speak and in appearance. I’m sure Kozakai-san will understand.”
“Well… I hope so…”
“Yes, I think so too.”
“Thank you.”
“Still, if Kozakai-san doesn’t get it, Hirabayashi-san, you should consider changing jobs and joining my team.”
“Huh…?”
“I don’t know if it’s because I’m too strict with work, but the people around me just interact with me on the surface. There’s no one who would go this far for me…”
Hikawa-san let out a sigh and slumped her shoulders, looking noticeably downcast.
She seemed a bit lonely. Hikawa-san was beautiful, but maybe that made it harder for others to approach her.
“Hikawa-san…”
“Oh… I was just joking about the changing jobs thing. I’m sorry for bringing that up to you, someone I just met. I felt like you seemed sincere, and I thought I could talk to you about this, so it just slipped out.”
“Ah, no, it’s fine. If it’s okay, I’m always happy to listen to anything you want to talk about.”
“Thank you.”
Hikawa-san smiled brightly. When she smiled, she was actually quite cute.
This person must have been going through a lot, too.
She was probably strict when it came to work, but deep down, she was kind and a good person.
“By the way, Hirabayashi-san, do you have a girlfriend?”
“Huh…?”
Hikawa-san suddenly asked me such a thing.
