- Actually, There’s Someone at Your Workplace Who Likes You ~ I’m Being Transferred to a Sales Office Filled With Only Beautiful Women!?
- Chapter 1: ...Transfer? - Transfer...?
“Starting next week… I’m being transferred?”
“Yeah, that’s right. The employees at that branch are quite skilled, but their performance has been declining. So, I’m counting on you, Hirabayashi-kun.”
I’d been working as a salesperson and career advisor at the recruitment company Rikuado Inc. for three years. I was based at the Tokyo branch, but one day, out of the blue, the sales manager called me in.
I had no idea what it was about, but then he dropped this bombshell on me.
I was being transferred to our Shimizu Branch, located in the city of Shimizu, a regional town.
It was such sudden news that I was completely taken aback.
“Wait a minute, Manager. My sales record isn’t particularly outstanding… Why am I being chosen to turn things around? There’s no way I can do this.”
“No, it’s fine. You’re always hardworking and determined.”
“Determined… No, I’m really not that impressive.”
“But Hirabayashi-kun, you were in the soccer club in high school, right?”
“Well, yeah…”
“Then that means you’ve got grit. After all, it’s an athletic club.”
“Wait a minute, Manager! Why are you making that assumption?!”
“Don’t overthink it, Hirabayashi-kun. Just keep being yourself and give it your all, as you always do.”
The branch I was being transferred to was in a regional city, but it was actually quite close to my hometown.
Apparently, that familiarity with the area was one of the reasons I was chosen.
“Oh, by the way, Hirabayashi-kun. There’s actually something about this transfer that might make you happy.”
“What is it?”
Could it be a special salary increase for the relocation?
That would be great!
“It’s a small branch with only three employees… And guess what? All three of them are women. And not just that—every single one of them is extremely beautiful.”
“What? All of them are women… and beautiful?”
“How about that? Suddenly feeling more motivated, aren’t you?”
Hold on a second.
I’d been single for my entire 25 years of existence.
It’s not that I was terrible with women, but I was definitely not good at handling them either.
I had no idea how to be popular with girls, to be honest. And I wasn’t some handsome, standout guy—I was just a pretty average-looking guy at best.
Or maybe… slightly above average? I’d like to believe that, but I really didn’t know. Either way, I didn’t have much confidence in my appearance.
And now I was being transferred to a branch where the only employees were women?
And extremely beautiful ones at that!?
This was just ridiculous.
This was way too much for me.
I had absolutely no confidence in my ability to get along with people like that.
Far from getting motivated, I was actually feeling more deflated.
They should just send someone who actually liked being around women.
Oh, just for the record—I was not particularly fond of women or anything.
“If I were 20 years younger, I’d volunteer to go myself, Hirabayashi-kun! Hahaha!”
—Oh, there went the womanizer.
For a moment, I thought, Then why don’t you go instead? But, of course, I couldn’t say that out loud.
The manager let out a hearty laugh and gave my back a series of enthusiastic slaps.
Well, I was a salaryman, after all. If the company ordered a transfer, I just had to accept it. And the manager had looked out for me a lot, so I didn’t want to make things difficult for him.
Besides, he told me to just be myself and do my best as usual. I guess that was all I could do.
And anyway, this whole “they’re all unbelievably beautiful” thing was probably just the manager exaggerating. Yeah, that had to be it.
And at the end of the day, work was work—it didn’t matter if they were men or women.
I just had to focus and do my job without thinking about them as women.
Half holding my head in my hands, I decided to take a more positive approach.
(T/N: As always just putting it out there, It’ll be a while before I completely post it)
