Chapter 51: Going to the Pool With the Hungry Gyaru

Time flew by and finally, the promised day for the pool arrived. Shizuku and I were on our way to the entrance of the nearest station to the pool we planned to play at when we spotted her three gyaru friends waiting there. The first to notice us was Sasamoto, who waved enthusiastically in our direction.

“Hey, you two! Over here, over here!”

“Uwahhh~ Are we the last ones to arrive?? Sorry, sorry, did you wait long?”

“Nope. Sawa and Rinoa just got here too.”

Sasamoto replied with a laugh. 

“Natsuki has been waiting for thirty minutes though~”

At that, Sasamoto’s face quickly turned red. She grabbed Suzuki by both shoulders and shook her vigorously. 

“Rinoa! I told you not to say that!!”

“Did you?~ But still, the amount of sweat dripping from your body makes it obvious that you got here early.”

Now that Suzuki pointed it out, Sasamoto was indeed sweating far more than the others. Considering the train was fully equipped with good air conditioning, it’d be weird for her to be sweating this much unless she had gotten off the train much earlier than us. 

While I was pondering about that, Shizuku narrowed her eyes, grinning mischievously.

“Oh? What’s this, what’s this? Natsuki, you’re that excited to be going to the pool?”

“We-Well, yeah! I mean, it’s not everyday we got to hang out with everyone, right?!”

“Yeah, right. You’re excited because you’re hoping you’d get a boyfriend, right?”

Miura sighed as she pointed that out and Sasamoto quickly turned her face away, practically outing herself out. 

Ah, so that’s how it is, huh..

Immediately after I came to that conclusion, Sasamoto boldly exclaimed. 

“Well, yeah! I want to have a youthful romance like Shizuku does!”

“But still, looking for a potential boyfriend at the pool seems a bit too much. Besides, I doubt you could find someone like Suou just lying around at the pool.”

Suzuki nodded in agreement beside me. But, Sasamoto was persistent. She refused to give up. 

“Yo-You never know what might happen!”

She exclaimed, half-bluffing. Then, she began walking toward the bus stop. Shizuku and the others exchanged amused glances, chuckling softly, before quickly following after her. Shortly after that, we boarded the bus heading to the pool. During the ride, Miura suddenly turned to me with a curious look on her face. 

“But still, Suou, how are you staying so calm even though you’re surrounded by four girls?”

“…Believe it or not, but I’m actually feeling a bit nervous.”

It might not show on my face, but this was my first time hanging out with several classmates at once—especially with four gyarus. Staying completely calm in this kind of situation would be asking a lot from a loner like me. 

“…You don’t look nervous at all.”

“Well, I had some time to get my head sorted after Kushina invited me.”

“Can you really make yourself stop feeling nervous with just a bit of mental preparation…?”

“Well, more or less.”

When I later heard from Shizuku about who was going to come for today’s outing, I was seriously at my wits’ end. I didn’t think I would be the only guy here. 

“Hmm~ Maybe it’s because of that? Suou-kun is already used to being surrounded by beautiful ladies all the time, so maybe he’s built up some kind of resistance?”

“Oi, watch how you say that.”

“Oho~ Beautiful ladies?”

And the one who bit on the lure from that comment was Suzuki. She leaned in closer to Shizuku, her face was full of curiosity. 

“Can you tell me more about that?”

“Well, Suou-kun’s family are super gorgeous and cute. His mom, his older sister and even his little sister. You’d be shocked to your core for real when you see them.”

Shizuku said while showing her phone screen to Suzuki and the others. On the screen of her phone, there was a selfie of her with my mom and my two sisters. It was from when Shizuku visited my house. She had insisted on taking a group photo and I still remembered that picture vividly since she wouldn’t stop showing off to me. 

“…Is this for real?”

“Wow… This is more impressive than what I imagined…”

“Suou… Your family is amazing. All of them are seriously stunning.”

“…Well, I can’t deny that.”

As for me, although I really couldn’t see it and it was a bit irritating to admit it, but it seemed even my older sister was considered ‘beautiful’ by general standards. As her younger brother who was constantly being teased by her, this was not something I could agree wholeheartedly. It was just hard for me to actually say my older sister was drop dead gorgeous. 

“By the way, isn’t your Mom like, super young? She could pass off as the eldest or the second daughter instead.”

“I thought the same at first! When I met Rin-chan for the first time, I couldn’t stop myself from shouting,’So young!!’ because of how youthful she looked!”

Shizuku said while laughing. Her voice was full of amusement. Then, Miura suddenly seemed to realize something and turned to Shizuku with a puzzled look on her face. 

“…Hey, Shizuku. Can I ask you something?”

“Hmm? What is it?”

“Why are you taking selfies with Suou’s family? And you look super close with them too…. Ah. I see.”

Partway through her speech, Miura seemed to realize something. She then started staring at Shizuku warmly. Noticing this, Shizuku seemed to catch on as well. Her face turned bright red in an instant. 

Ah, I see it now…

A bit later than them, I finally figured out the reason too and precisely because of that, the mood suddenly turned awkward. 

“I see, I see. Ooooh… Shizuku, you’re really doing your best too, huh?”

“…Shut up. It’s not like that with Suou-kun, okay?”

“Ah, there it is. Ahh~ It’s been a while since I’ve seen Shizuku looking so adorable like this~ Truly a sight for sore eyes~”

“Natsuki too?! Geez…!”

“Oho~ Even your flustered face looks super adorbs~”

“Even you, Rinoa?! Seriously, if you three don’t knock it off now, I’m going to make you pay for mine and Suou-kun’s meal! We’re going to eat a lot to wring you guys dry!”

Shizuku puffed her cheeks out in frustration and all three of them stiffened. Their faces twitching as they fell silent in unison. They must be dreading how much it would cost to cover our meals. 

“Geez… Idiots.”

Shizuku muttered softly with her cheeks still flushed red.
