ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
After that, Shizuku ended up resting in the infirmary until the first period, but since she was still feeling bad, she had to leave school early. That said, I was worried whether she could make it back home safely considering her condition, but apparently she had told in her group chat with her gyaru friends that she had gotten home safely. This fact brought me some relief at least. I also sent her a personal message just to check on her condition, but all I got was a simple “sorry” and she didn’t give me any response other than that.
My mind was in turmoil after that. I tried to pass the time until lunch break and as usual, I ate my lunch on the emergency staircase. But then, the door to the emergency staircase was slowly opened by someone.
“…Wow. You’re really eating here, huh?”
A voice laced with a hint of surprise reached my air. The ones who had appeared into this desolate place were Miura, Sasamoto and Suzuki.
“I have been wondering where you disappear to whenever lunch break comes, but wow. I really didn’t expect you to be here…”
“Well, yeah… So you three are coming here together, huh?”
“Yeah, of course. It’s a bit awkward if I were to come here alone and besides, we’re not hat close, you know?”
“You’re right. I can understand your point now.”
Sasamoto made a great point there. I set my lunchbox down on the floor and faced the three of them.
“Sorry for making you three come all the way here.”
“We don’t mind it, don’t worry. Besides, Rinoa and the others also have something they want to ask from you, Suou.”
As she said that, Suzuki spread a hand towel on the empty space and sat down there while Miura leaned against the door and Sasamoto rested her back against the railing of the landing. I had spoken to the three of them on our way back to the classroom after we had taken Shizuku to the infirmary. I told them there was something I want to talk about, so I asked them to come here during lunch break. To be precise, it didn’t have to be all three of them. Just one of them was enough, but, well… This was more efficient actually. I wouldn’t need to repeat the same explanation.
“So? What do you want to talk about?”
Miura asked and I took my smartphone out of my pocket and handed it to the three of them. It would be faster to show them the actual recording rather than explaining it with my own words. I played the video and all of them were immediately rendered speechless.
“Are you kidding me?! This is…!!”
“Yamachi-kun… Nah. Maybe I will stop calling him with ‘-kun.’, but that’s Katagiri from Class 4, right?”
“Whoa… This is… Yeah, this is really disgusting indeed.”
The video I showed them was one I had filmed when Yamachi and Katagiri were leaving the hotel. Sure, the image quality wasn’t the best, but the microphone clearly picked up their conversation. This video was good enough to serve as a proof for Yamachi’s infidelity.
“How did you get this, Suou?”
“By pure chance, really. I ran into them after I finished working my part-time job, so I decided to record them. I mean, this is definitely not something to be praised about. After all, I was recording them in secret.”
“Well, I guess you’re right about that, but still… This means…”
I nodded and said to Sasamoto.
“Yes. The one who had been cheating was Yamachi. No matter what the rumors say, we have this video as proof.”
Upon hearing that, all three girls gasped in unison. Their reaction was understandable. After all, Yamachi and Katagiri never showed the slightest hint that they were close or dating, even. Unable to hide her shock, Sasamoto nervously asked me another question.
“H-Hey… Don’t tell me… Shizuku also knows about this?”
“Well, she already knew about this a long time ago. In fact, the main reason she decided to break up with Yamachi was because she witnessed their affair with her own eyes.”
The moment I said that, the three of them looked even more stunned.
“…I haven’t shown her this video, though.”
Even after I said that, all three girls were still staring at me with their mouths gaping open from shock. Well, I already predicted this reaction. This kind of reaction was understandable. After all, they were suddenly hit with a series of unexpected truths. Still, I continued on without minding their reaction.
“…Shizuku is really a fool. Even after she knew about everything, she still refused to confront Yamachi about his affair just because of some debt of gratitude from middle school. She ended up breaking up with Yamachi without revealing anything to anyone.”
And… This is the result of that?
I gritted my teeth in frustration. I thought after I gave him that firm warning, he wouldn’t dare to do anything stupid, but it seemed I had severely underestimated him.
“I actually didn’t have any plan to tell anyone about this, but now that things have come to this, I don’t think I can stay silent anymore.”
I really wanted to respect Shizuku’s will, but I really couldn’t stay still anymore. No matter what anyone might say later, I just couldn’t bear to see Shizuku’s heart and honor getting tarnished by Yamachi any further.
“That’s why I called you all here, in order to discuss what to do from here. All three of you are close to Shizuku after all and I believe you deserve to know the truth…”
Though there were some minor differences in the way they reacted, all three of them showed similar expressions. Their faces were filled with shock, confusion and most importantly—anger. The three of them exchanged glances, seemingly in disbelief, before…
“I see. I understand the general idea of the situation now.”
Miura said.
“I had heard from Shizuku herself that she owed Yamachi a lot, but all the things Yamachi had done to her, she really didn’t need to keep pushing herself like this.”
“I agree with you there.”
“…But, well~ That overly kind nature is one of Shizuku’s good points. That girl, she’s a very pure-hearted girl after all.”
At Miura’s words, both Sasamoto and Suzuki nodded in agreement. Then Suzuki tilted her head and asked me another question.
“By the way, Suou, why are you nice to Shizuku? Perhaps… Do you actually like Shizuku?”
Like…? By ‘like’, she must mean in a romantic sense.
Looking up, I pondered my feelings toward Shizuku.
I…
However, I couldn’t come up with an answer. My thoughts remain tangled and jumbled.
“…I’m not sure. I am fond of Shizuku, but I’m not sure if I like her in a romantic sense or not. But, I can say one thing for sure. I am on Shizuku’s side. I am her ally.”
I had said this directly to her face before and my answer remained the same as it was back then.
“I couldn’t just leave someone be when they were hurt badly right in front of me. At least, that’s all there is to it for me right now.”
I said all that while staring at the three of them.
“…Well, I guess that’s good enough for now.”
Miura said as she gave me a small smile.
“Alright. We will help you out. Natsuki, Rinoa, you two are joining us too, right?”
“Of course!”
“Right on!”
Seeing the two agreeing almost immediately with Miura, I was convinced that trusting these three girls was the right choice after all.

Chapter 33: Visiting the Hungry Gyaru
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
The three gyarus told me all the details regarding the rumors surrounding Shizuku. It seemed they had been gathering information during lunch break. Just as we expected, the source of the rumors was indeed… The soccer club. Apparently, someone was teasing Yamachi about the breakup, joking that Shizuku had cheated on him and since Yamachi didn’t say anything against it, the rumor about Shizuku began to circulate throughout the school. So, while Yamachi wasn’t the direct cause of the rumor, but it could be said the rumor escalated to this extent due to his fault. There was also another factor that contributed to the spread of this rumor… Me.
“… I see, so I also play a part in this sound pollution.”
I muttered and Sasamoto gave a wry smile in response.
It seemed my behavior during yesterday’s cooking class seemed suspicious to the other people. They saw that I seemed close to Shizuku and not to mention, I had helped carry her to the infirmary this morning. This only fueled the rumor even further.
“Sound pollution, you said…”
“It is, right? Besides, my existence is making things more complicated. That’s for sure.”
I was the only guy who had been allowed to talk with Shizuku after her break up with Yamachi. It was no surprise people might assume Shizuku was cheating on Yamachi with me.
Well, a part of it is true. I am the only guy that she allows to get near her, but… Regardless of the circumstances around her, what I need to do from here on doesn’t change. I will make sure Yamachi faces the consequences for hurting Shizuku. I refuse to back down here.
I thought to myself as…
“So? What’s the plan? Are you going to spread the proof video around?”
Suzuki asked me.
“If you send me the video file, Natsuki and the others can spread the video to the other group chats. We will make sure the video gets spread around to kill him socially.”
“…Can you wait a little longer? There’s something I want to do before that.”
“Something you want to do?”
“I want to talk with Shizuku first. I just don’t think it’s right to proceed with this plan behind her back, especially when we already know how kind she is. She definitely doesn’t want Yamachi to face the consequences, no matter how justified it is.”
Even though I was doing this with Shizuku in mind, but the fact still remained. The things I was about to do went against her will. Hence why, I had to talk to her first to make sure she was aware of everything.
“..Well, I understand. I get your point, Suou. Alright.I’ll leave the final decision up to you.”
“Sorry about this and… Thanks.”
Now… The main problem here was… I still couldn’t get in touch with her. I checked my message with Shizuku. She still hadn’t read them yet.
Is she not looking at her phone, or…?
I thought to myself when Miura pulled out her phone and spoke up.
“Hey, Suou. Are you free after school today?”
“Today? Yeah. I guess I am.”
“Good. Write down the address I’m about to give you.”
“Sure, but what’s the address for?”
“There’s a place I want you to go to after school. Don’t worry, it’s not far.”
* * *
And so, I found myself standing in front of a high-rise apartment building, just one station away from the busy shopping district. This was the address Miura had given me during break.
“So it’s here, huh…”
True to her words, this place wasn’t that far. It was pretty close to the station.
I entered the room number Miura had given me on the intercom in front of the auto-lock system and rang the bell.
『Yes?』
A voice came from the speaker. I recognize whose voice it was, albeit the voice sounded a bit weak.
Good. It seemed I had come to the right place.
“Shizuku—”
The moment I said thtat…
『HUH?! Suou-kun?! W-What are you doing here…!?』
“Didn’t Miura tell you? That I’d be coming after school?”
『She didn’t! I didn’t know anything! I thought it was just Sawa and the others coming—!』
Ah I see. They deliberately kept my visit a secret from Shizuku.
“Well, whatever. Can you let me in? I’ve got something from Miura for you.”
『…O-Okay. Wait a minute.』
I could sense her hesitation even through the intercom. It seemed she was still feeling hesitant to meet me. This must be the reason why she had been ignoring my LINE messages too. I had heard about it from Miura, so yeah. That must be the reason why. If I were in her position, I’d probably react in the same way. That being said, I couldn’t afford to back down here. This was the exact reason why I decided to come all the way here to Shizuku’s house.
While trying to calm my nervous heartbeat, I passed through the now open automatic door.
