Chapter 14: Inviting the Hungry Gyaru to My House

The heavy rain eased considerably after 10 minutes. Faint rays of sunlight were beginning to peek through gaps in the thick clouds. That said, it seemed it would still take some time for the rain to completely stop.

“…Do you feel better now?”

“…Yeah.”

I asked and Kushina gave me a small nod. Although her face was hidden under the hat as she stood up, I could tell that she seemed a bit calmer now. 

“Umm… Suou-kun, thank you for the hat.”

She said. Her voice was still raw and hoarse as she reached her hand up to take off the hat. However, I stopped her hand before she could do it. 

“You don’t need to give it back yet. You probably don’t want anyone to see your face right now, right?”

After all, you had cried out so much just a moment ago. 

“For now, you can keep wearing it.”

I pressed the hat down firmly over her head. Kushina looked up at me. A hint of irritation could be seen on her face.

“…You should be more gentle when touching a girl’s head, you know?”

“Oh. Sorry about that.”

I apologized to Kushina, who said that with a disgruntled tone. 

Good. It seems she has returned to her usual self.

But then, she sneezed softly. 

“Achooo!”

“Are you alright…?”

“Yeah. I’m fine, I’m fine.”

Kushina answered, but her fingertips had turned a little pale. It was only natural. Although it was already June, but she had been out in the heavy rain for a long time. Crying her heart out, even. Furthermore, she must be mentally drained after everything that had happened to her earlier. It was only natural for her body temperature to drop.

While I was pondering about that, I started to feel a bit cold myself. I finally realized the weather had become so much colder now. Ideally, I wanted to get her home as soon as possible, but…

“Kushina, is your house close from here?”

“It’s just one station away, so it’s not that far. But… We’ll need to go back to that station first.”

“Right…”

In that case, it might be better if we didn’t go to her house. Though the chance was slim, but we might run into Yamachi by accident if we went to the train station. More than that, it would be downright cruel to make her ride the train when she was this drenched. Technically speaking, there was another situation, but… Considering what had just happened to Kushina, I definitely didn’t want to go down that path. Well, anything would be better than sending her home like this though. 

What should I do…? What’s the best solution here…?

After much deliberation, I decided to take my chance and offered her an option.

“Hey, Kushina…”

“Hm? What is it?”

“I understand after what just happened, I shouldn’t be offering this to you, but… Well, if you’re okay with it…”

“Hm? What’s wrong? It’s kind of funny to see you acting all nervous like this.”

“…Yeah. After all, I’m about to make a foolish suggestion here.”

I answered with a big sigh. But then, I realized I had said something I shouldn’t have.

Ah, crap. 

But by the time I realized it, it was already too late. The deed had been done.

“Oooh~ A foolish suggestion, huh? Suou-kun, just what are you trying to suggest to me now?”

“It’s…”

“It’s…?~”

Even though her face was hidden by the hat, I could tell she was grinning mischievously.

She’s totally messing with me!

But then again, this also meant she had returned to her usual self. And honestly? I was glad. I was genuinely happy she could return to her usual self this quickly. This was a good sign. A really good sign. But still, that didn’t change the fact I was a bit irritated to be teased like this. 

Somehow, that slight irritation made me relaxed a bit. I decided to ask Kushina right away while I was still feeling a bit courageous.

“If you’re okay with it, how about taking a bath at my place? My house is just around the corner.”

“…U-Umm… By that, do you mean…”

“I will say this upfront. This is not what you think! I just figured… Since you’re soaked, you’re going to catch a cold if we let you be like this and you’re not in the right state to take the train either. I asked you that purely out of good intentions! Not to mention, my house is never empty. I really don’t have any ill intention or anything! Really!”

I stammered, desperate to explain myself. 

What the hell am I doing?! At this rate, she’s going to get suspicious of me! She will think I actually have ulterior motives…!

I scolded myself internally when suddenly, Kushina burst out laughing. 

“Wait, Suou-kun… You’re panicking too much…! Ahahah! Hilarious..!”

She laughed out loud while clutching her stomach. In fact, she was laughing so hard, so much so that she started curling up on the ground again. 

“Stop laughing too much.”

“Well… Because you were all serious earlier, but now Suou-kun… You look so different. I can’t even feel the intense mood from earlier anymore! Ahh… My stomach hurts from laughing so much!”

“…Sorry about that.”

I said with a hint of annoyance. Kushina then lifted the hat and flashed me a smile. Her eyes were completely red and swollen, but her well-defined nose bridge still captivated me.

“Well, since you’re generous enough to take me in… I guess I will take you up on your offer!”

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah. I’m sure. Besides, this is Suou-kun we’re talking about.”

She said while smiling brightly at me. Her smile was so dazzling, I couldn’t help but look away from her as I pulled my phone out from my pocket. 

“I’ll contact my family first, so wait here for a bit.”

I clicked on the LINE app and called my older sister. She picked up the call within seconds.

『Hey, Gaku~ What’s up?』

“Big Sis, are you home right now?”

『Yeah, what’s wrong though?』

“I need to ask you something. We got completely soaked from this heavy rain, so could you please heat up the bath for me?”

『Huh? Why do I have to do it? So troublesome. Just do it yourself when you get home.』

“I’m not the one who will take the bath. My friend will.”

Within that instant, my older sister’s attitude changed dramatically. 

She must’ve realized who I’m talking about.

『You idiot! You should’ve said that first! I’ll get on it right away! By the way, how long until you’re home?!』

“In less than ten minutes I suppose.”

『Okay! Got it! Do you want something warm to drink too?!』

“Just get something, whatever you think is good.”

『Understood, leave it to your big sis! I’ll get everything ready right away!』

After she said that, my older sister immediately hung upon me  without waiting for my response. I put my phone away and turned my gaze back to Kushina.

“Alright. It’s all set. I got my family’s approval. Let’s go.”

I only mentioned I would be bringing a friend to my older sister, but from the way she reacted, I was sure she already knew I would be bringing Kushina home with me. Thanks to that, I didn’t need to spend more time explaining everything to my older sister. I guess getting caught talking with Kushina over the phone wasn’t that bad after all…

“Suou-kun, you have an older sister, huh?”

Kushina stared at me, seemingly surprised. 

“Yeah. I have a little sister too. She should be home as well.”

“Ooh! I can’t wait to meet them!”

With a bright smile on her face, Kushina went behind me. 

“Alright! Onward! Let’s go to Suou-kun’s house!”

“Alright, alright. I get it. Don’t push me.”

I let out a small sigh, but I was relieved to see she had regained her energy back.
