The Goddess-Sama Is One-Sixteenth Of My Sister. (Part 3)
We walked up the hill together in a bit of an awkward atmosphere.
We were on our way home, but if someone saw us, it won’t be good.
Just as Yuki had misunderstood me earlier.
Halfway up the hill, Mikoto-san turned around and looked back at me.
The hem of her coat swung softly and I caught a glimpse of her beautiful white legs.
“Akihara-kun, are you quite popular with the girls?”
“I don’t know…”
“Because of what I just saw, it looks like so.”
By earlier, she meant that my friend Yuki had said something about liking me and then left.
To be honest, I had never thought that Yuki liked me.
Yuki had always been eager to bring me and Kaho together.
When I failed to confess my feelings to Kaho, she was so depressed as if it was her own fault.
What was that all about?
I thought to myself, Hmmm…
“I don’t know why Yuki likes me.”
“Because you are kind, Akihara-kun, you know?”
“Do you think people like someone just because they are kind?”
“I like people who are kind. That’s why, you see, I think I understand why girls like you, Akihara-kun.”
Mikoto-san smiled and said so.
But I don’t think I’m kind or have any reason to be liked by girls.
Both Kaho and Yuki were hurt by me as a result.
Maybe it was all my fault.
What should I do?
My thoughts were going round and round, and I couldn’t think straight.
Mikoto-san looked into my eyes with concern.
“Akihara-kun. Are you okay?”
“What?”
“You look very sad.”
“Do I?”
“Yeah… Yesterday Sasaki-san and today Sakurai-san… It’s terrible, isn’t it? They don’t listen to you and they trouble you.”
“I don’t blame those two. I’m probably the worst one.”
“Blaming yourself like that is the worst thing you can do.”
Mikoto-san said it as if she was concerned about me.
For some reason, Mikoto-san seemed to be concerned about me.
When I first met her, I couldn’t have imagined that she would be concerned about me like this.
“…You’re kind of sweet today, Mikoto-san.”
“Y-yeah?”
“Yes. Well, if you’ll always be like this, I’ll be happy.”
“Does it make you happy to see me like this, Akihara-kun?”
“Yes. You don’t have to worry about not wanting to owe me or bother me or anything like that. Just treat me like this, like a normal person, that’s all I ask.”
“…I… I don’t understand what it means to be normal with people.”
“What do you mean?”
“I… didn’t have many friends, and it’s like I don’t have any family… That’s why, I don’t know what that means. I don’t know what exactly I should do to interact with people in a normal way.”
Mikoto-san said shyly.
The Ice Goddess is the object of admiration at the school, an incredibly beautiful girl, and so outstanding that her grades are second in her grade.
And, although I don’t know the details, she seems to have complicated circumstances.
However, I thought at the time that if I took away those outer circumstances, Mikoto-san would be an ordinary girl.
Mikoto-san looked at me.
“What exactly is the relationship between me and you, Akihara-kun? Sasaki-san is your childhood friend and Sakurai-san is your friend. Then, what about me?”
“Does that have anything to do with ‘how to treat each other normally’?”
“Of course. Because if we are friends, there is a ‘normal’ way to treat each other as friends, and if we are parents and children, there is a normal way for parents and children to treat each other. If we are lovers, there are ‘normal’ ways to treat each other. But we are none of the above.”
“Cousin. Classmates. Is that not good enough?”
“…Both of them are right, but I don’t think either one of them is correct.”
“Then we can be whatever you please to be, Mikoto-san.”
“Ehh?”
“Doing what you want to do is the normal way to relate to me. You can do what you want to do, without any consideration of owing or duty or obligation or righteousness. It’s all as you wish.”
“As I… wish?”
“Yeah. Think about it.”
I don’t care if she just shrugs it off or calls me “disgusting.”
I just don’t want her to reject me because she doesn’t want to owe me, or because she doesn’t want to cause me trouble, or because she doesn’t like familiarity, or whatever.
Perhaps it is none of my business, but that is probably not what Mikoto-san really meant.
I had thought that the real Mikoto-san was just being timid.
“I can be whatever I want to be? …Yes. I’ll think about it.”
Mizukoto-san mumbled quietly.
And then she stared at me.
“Akihara-kun.”
“What?”
“I asked you earlier, what would you like for… dinner?”
“Whatever you want, Mikoto-san.”
I smiled.
The other day she said she would never eat my cooking again, but now she herself is asking me what I want.
It’s much easier for me living with her like this.
I have to think about Kako and Yuki, but for now, let’s think about tonight’s dinner.
Mikoto-san’s cheeks flushed and she said quietly.
“Curry would be nice.”
