The Goddess-Sama Is One-Sixteenth Of My Sister. (Part 2)
Yuki said she was content just to see Kaho looking happy.
After that, Yuki became silent.
In the dimly lit biology lab, Yuki and I were alone.
I couldn’t bear to look at her, so I asked her.
“Are we done?”
“…Yeah.”
“Then, I’ll get going.”
“Ahh, me too.”
“Do you want me to walk you home?”
“I feel bad for Kaho.”
“Why?”
“Because if I go home alone with you, Aki-kun, Kaho will…”
“She probably won’t mind.”
“Don’t say that, okay?”
Despite saying so, Yuki eventually agreed to go home with me.
Yuki and I have known each other since middle high school.
So I didn’t think it would be a big deal if we went home together.
The schoolyard was filled with members of the baseball team who were in the middle of their activities.
I’m a go-home guy, but Yuki is a member of the drama club, I think.
“Don’t you have any club activities today, Yuki?”
“No, I’m off for today. The tournament is over. We’re going to rent the civic hall for our next play, but that’s still a long way off.”
“Wow, I’ll come see it.”
“Thank you. Please come and see the play with Kaho.”
Yuki smiled as she said this.
We walked out the school gate and got on the bus.
It had been a while since Yuki and I had spoken alone, and we talked about many things.
We talked about our classmates from middle school, high school gossips, and complaining about club activities.
Of all the things we talked about, Yuki seemed to enjoy it the most when we talked about Kaho.
I thought to myself, Yuki must really like Kaho.
I was the one who was in her way, she probably just wanted to have Kaho all to herself.
I suddenly thought of that.
If that’s the case, then Yuki shouldn’t be asking me to make up with Kaho.
Yuki is usually a quiet person, but I’m always the one who listens to her when we talk.
Yuki would talk in small talk, and I would offer a few words of advice or a related topic.
That was the way it was.
After taking a bus and a train, we got off at the nearest station. My house and Yuki’s house were in the same direction and not far apart.
As we walked up the hill, I said to her,
“Yuki, you’re great, aren’t you?”
“I’m great?”
“Kaho is an honor student, too, but Yuki’s grades are better than Kaho’s. You work hard in club activities. And you’re doing well in club activities.”
“I-Is that so?”
“Well, the other day, you got third place in the exam, didn’t you?”
“…Yeah. But… I’m not that great at all.”
Yuki said, a little embarrassed.
She’s a nice, humble girl, I thought to myself.
I smiled and patted Yuki on the head.
Yuki looked surprised and blushed.
“A-Aki-kun, wh-what are you doing?”
“Sorry, did you not like it?”
“Some of the girls feel like they’re being treated like children, and many of them don’t like it.”
“I’m sorry, I just did it. It won’t happen again.”
“Ahh… I don’t mean… that I don’t like it, I mean… that you shouldn’t be so casual about skinship with a girl. Besides, Aki, you have a girl you like, don’t you?”
Yuki continued to look at me with a red face and a fond look in her eyes.
It’s true that I like Kaho, but I wonder if stroking Yuki’s head wasn’t a good idea because of that.
I wouldn’t stroke the hair of a girl I don’t get along with at all.
If I did, I would be treated like a pervert.
But Yuki was my friend, So I did it.
“I’m sorry.”
“Do that to Kaho. I’m sure… she will be happy.”
“I doubt it.”
At least as of now Kaho won’t accept it.
Then what about Mikoto-san?
I imagined myself stroking Mikoto-san’s head and wondered if it was possible.
Ice Goddess. She would reject the idea of being patted on the head by a man.
But with the mood Mikoto-san was in yesterday, maybe it was because she was weak from the fever, but I think she might not be offended if I patted her on the head.
Why am I thinking about Mikoto-san?
As I was pondering, Yuki looked into my eyes.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
I shook my head and started walking.
Yuki, who was walking half a step behind me, then suddenly called out to me.
“Are you thinking of a way to make up with Kaho, by any chance?”
“Well…”
“I’ll do my best to figure out a way for you two to make up… so why don’t you tell me what happened yesterday?”
I have no idea how to make up with Kaho, but there was also no way I was going to tell Yuki about yesterday.
I was wondering how to answer the question, and then I didn’t have to wonder anymore.
A girl appeared from the entrance of a pharmacy in the middle of the slope.
It was Mikoto-san. She was wearing warm, beige knit plainclothes with my coat over it. I was stunned by her girly appearance in her casual clothes. Even if she was wearing the jersey I lent her, she was still cute, I realized once again that she was even cuter when she was wearing proper clothes.
I wonder where she bought her clothes. And she also had other luggage hanging in one hand.
Thinking about that, I shook my head.
If I don’t do something, Mikoto-san and Yuki will run into each other!
But it was too late.
Perhaps noticing me, Mikoto-san’s face lit up.
“Akira-kun. You’re late. I got tired of waiting and came to the pharmacy alone. Thanks to you, I’m feeling much better.”
Mikoto-san said quickly, happily and a little shyly.
As I froze, unable to respond, Mi
“Why are you frozen? Wanna go home with me? It’s time to eat dinner already. What do you want for dinner?”
Mikoto-san said this happily, then looked at Yuki in her school uniform behind me and gave me a strange look.
Mikoto-san did not know Yuki.
And Yuki was walking a bit far from me.
Therefore, Mikoto-san didn’t think that Yuki was my acquaintance.
Not good.
Very bad.
I had no choice but to say something.
“Mikoto-san. This is my middle school classmate, Sakurai Yukino.”
Hearing this, Mikoto-san’s face suddenly turned pale.
Yuki, on the other hand, also looked shocked and stiffened.
Yuki finally spoke up,
“What does this mean? You’re Mikoto-san from the class next door, right? You and Aki-kun are gonna go home together and have dinner together at night…?”
“Uh, Yuki…”
I hesitated to say.
How should I explain it?
Should I honestly tell her that we live together?
What would Mikoto-san do?
She was frozen in place and seemed unable to respond.
Before I could continue, Yuki spoke up.
“It’s terrible… Aki-kun. You’re dating Mikoto-san? And you live in the same house together? I’m sure you’ve done a lot of naughty things too. Now I see, Kaho saw it yesterday and was… hurt.”
“I-it’s a misunderstanding.”
I got stuck, trying to explain.
Yuki was shedding tears.
Yuki, with tears in her eyes, spoke in a fading voice,
“Aki-kun… did you stop caring about Kaho?”
“That’s not true.”
“Aki-kun… you traitor!”
“…You know, Yuki… Kaho didn’t accept my confession, you know.”
“But Aki-kun likes Kaho, right? I like Kaho when she’s with Aki-kun, and I like Aki-kun when he’s with Kaho. Why Mikoto-san? Aki? And if it’s not Kaho who’s next to you… then why not me!!”
Yuki exclaimed, and then, with a gasp, held her mouth shut.
Yuki wiped away her tears and stared at me, her face still red.
“Forget… what I just said, Aki-kun. I… hate you, Aki-kun!”
Yuki ran away from the scene.
Mikoto-san and I looked at each other in shock.
Mizukoto-san looked as if she couldn’t keep up with the situation and mumbled,
“In other words… Sakurai-san likes you, right?”
Mikoto-san is right.
No matter how dull I am, there are things I can tell.
Yuki likes me, it seems.
