Rescuing The Goddess-Sama. (Part 4)
After we went out to the main street, Mikoto-san and I finally arrived at our apartment after a while.
It was quite embarrassing for both of us, me carrying Mikoto-san who’s in a school uniform on my back and for Mikoto-san being carried, but it couldn’t be helped.
I looked at the kitchen and breathed a sigh of relief.
Now we had succeeded in escaping from the people who had been attacking Mikoto-san.
“I’m sorry, but I’m going to go into the room you slept in yesterday, Mikoto-san.”
“There’s nothing to apologize for.”
After getting Mikoto-san’s permission, I pulled open the sliding door and entered the back bedroom.
After entering, I slowly lowered Mikoto-san into the room.
At that moment, I felt my phone vibrating.
I looked at it and saw that Kaho had called me.
I had forgotten to call her.
As I hurriedly picked up the phone, Kaho’s clear voice rang loudly in my ears.
“HA RU TO!! How many times do you think did I call you!!”
“So-sorry.”
“We’ve been waiting for you for so long.”
According to her, Kaho and Yuki were waiting for me.
But I didn’t meet them because I took a different road than the one I originally came from to shake off the people who attacked Mikoto-san.
“I told you to go home first because it was dangerous.”
When I said this, Kaho replied in a slightly angry voice.
“Do you really think I would have gone home first after being told like that? I was really worried about you.”
“I’m fine, so don’t worry. Mikoto-san is also safe.”
“What happened?”
“I’m sorry. I have some things to do right now. I’ll explain it to you tomorrow at school.”
“…You must explain things to me. That’s a promise, okay?”
With that, Kaho hung up the phone.
I put my phone away in my pocket.
For now, I had more important things to do than explain things to Kaho.
I laid the futon down right next to Mikoto-san.
I lightly patted the futon and indicated to her.
“Mikoto-san, will you sit here for me?”
“Why?”
Mizukoto-san’s cheeks turned red, so I hurriedly said,
“I’m not going to do anything strange.”
“I don’t think you would do anything strange though, Akihara-kun…”
“You have a sprain, and you need to be treated. Uhmm, can you take your socks off?”
Mizukoto-san whispered, “I see,” and obediently shifted her body onto the futon.
Then, she removed the high socks of her sprained left leg with her hand and stretched her white, thin leg out to me irresistibly.
“Akihara-kun, is this how you want me to do it?”
“OK.”
Now, as for treatment, elevate the affected area and apply pressure with a bandage. After that, cool the affected area.
“I’m sorry, Mikoto-san. I’m going to touch you a little”
“Ehh?”
I prepared a stand.
Then I touched Mikoto-san’s leg, lifted it up and placed it on the stand.
I brought a bandage from the cupboard and wrapped it around Mikoto-san’s leg.
Mizukoto-san’s face was getting redder and redder, but she groaned briefly in the process.
“Oww…”
“Are you okay?”
“…Yeah, I’m fine. But I think my bandage might be tickling.”
Mikoto-san said, embarrassed, and then coughed a little.
I went to the kitchen, opened the freezer, took some ice out of it, and packed it in a plastic bag.
I brought the bag of ice and put it on Mikoto-san’s ankle.
Mikoto-san then let out a small scream.
“C-colddd”
“I’m sorry. Please hang in there.”
“…Uhmm, Akihara-kun, you don’t have to apologize. You are doing this for me, right?”
“Well, yes.”
“Yesterday, I said I would never thank you again, didn’t I?”
Come to think of it, Mikoto-san did saye that she didn’t like it when people were nice to her and told me that I didn’t have to be bothered by her anymore.
I wondered if this was unnecessary.
However, Mikoto-san said with her eyes downcast and red face,
“I know I said yesterday was the last time I would say thank you, but I have to rephrase. Today is the last time I thank you. I want to thank you for saving me from being attacked, for giving me a piggyback ride back here, and for taking care of my injuries. So, I’ll try not to bother you again tomorrow.”
“You don’t have to worry about that.”
“I have to.”
“What would you rather have for dinner tonight, white stew or curry?”
“Curry.”
Mikoto-san immediately replied, and then put her hand over her mouth.
I smiled, thinking that she was being careless in answering my question.
“Then, I’ll be making curry.”
“Wait! Don’t prepare my share!”
“’Today is the last time I’m going to thank you,’ right? Then, I think it’s okay if I treat you to dinner for the rest of the day.”
Mikoto-san hesitantly shut her mouth.
I repeated what I said.
“You should rest. If the sprain gets worse, it could cause more pain.”
“…Yeah.”
Mito-san nodded and laid herself down on the futon, with her bandaged white leg outstretched.
Then she looked up at me blankly.
After a while, Mikoto-san looked as if she had noticed something and asked me.
“I heard that your father is working by himself, but what about your mother?”
I hesitated for a moment and then I told her the truth.
“She left five years ago. Caught in a big fire in Hazuki.”
Mikoto-san gasped.
The Great Fire of Hazuki was a disaster that occurred five years ago in our city, Hazuki City.
This catastrophe, which destroyed hundreds of buildings in an instant, claimed many victims.
My house was also burned down, and my mother and Amane-nee san’s parents were also killed.
“I’m sorry. I feel like I asked something insensitive.”
“It doesn’t matter. I have a question for you, too. I’m sorry to remind you of something unpleasant, but why were you involved with those men, Mikoto-san? Do you have any idea?”
Those boys said that they knew that Mikoto-san was the daughter of the Tomi family and that they were asked to hurt her.
However, I am not sure why that client targeted Mikoto-san.
Mizukoto-san shivered a little.
Maybe she didn’t want to answer.
I felt bad that I was trying to force her to tell me something in exchange for my mother’s story.
“You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to.”
Mikoto-san shook her head and answered shortly,
“I am, you know, a fake daughter.”
“Fake?”
“That’s why, I was about to be attacked.”
“What do you mean?”
“It’s better if you don’t know, Akihara-kun. I do not intend to involve you in this.”
I feel like I’m already involved, though.
What if something similar happens tomorrow or later?
I was lucky enough to be close to Mikoto-san today, but I can’t always be there to help her out like that.
I wondered what I should do as I stewed my curry.
But for now, I no longer had to worry about her being attacked.
I had to worry about something else.
The next morning, Mikoto-san developed a high fever and was in bed.
