Chapter 30: The Lively Student Council President
Time flies, and it’s already November.
It’s been exactly one month since I became Akito, which happened about six months after the entrance ceremony.
(Just one month, huh…)
For me, it’s been so intense that it feels like I’ve been Akito for a whole year.
But when I think about it calmly, in another six months, we’ll reach the timeline of the manga, and the protagonist will transfer in.
(When that happens… what’ll happen?)
I can’t even imagine how things will unfold.
If Arisu takes a liking to the protagonist when he transfers in, the story might progress like it does in the early parts of the manga… but, not to be conceited, would the current Arisu even take a liking to him?
And… there’s a part of me that finds the idea of that happening kind of annoying.
When I think about it, I realize I’ve grown pretty fond of my relationship with Arisu.
“Akito-san?”
“Whoops, sorry.”
Arisu, walking beside me, looked up at me with concern.
As usual, classes are over, and all that’s left is to head home. From the moment we left the classroom to walking down the hallway, Arisu has been by my side the whole time.
And today, too, she said she wants to come over to my place and spend time together.
“You seemed lost in thought. Is something bothering you?”
“Yeah.”
“Oh… you’re admitting it so readily.”
“It’s not a big deal, though.”
“Really?”
“Yup.”
Arisu still seemed curious, but she didn’t press further, accepting my response.
As we walked down the hallway, I spotted a familiar face—the maternal young lady herself, Nagatsubaki Ram.
“Oh, is that Nagatsubaki-senpai?”
“Looks like it.”
Her long black hair alone makes her stand out, but those massive breasts pushing up her uniform are even more eye-catching.
Most students at this academy are serious, but even they can’t help but gawk at those beyond-massive, almost magical breasts… I mean, even I, with my blank expression, can’t tear my eyes away from them.
“But I…”
“You’re the only one I can entrust with my position! Not only did you support me as a student council officer, but you took responsibility for every task. You’re the one who’s truly worthy of it!!”
“Um, your voice is a bit too loud…”
The exchange was so out of place for this academy that Arisu and I couldn’t help but exchange glances.
There was Ram, flustered and fidgeting, and a guy with glasses and a techno-cut hairstyle pressing in on her, wearing a student council armband… the kind only the student council president wears.
“Miyazaki, the student council president,” Arisu noted.
“Student council president…”
I figured I’d meet him eventually, but that’s the current president, huh?
In the manga, Ram had already become the student council president, so the previous president’s face was never shown. But I recall Ram mentioning that he was kind yet strict and quite talkative.
“I’m graduating soon… but! I can’t rest easy unless I hand over the position to someone I believe in!”
“B-But…”
What a dramatic exchange… The onlookers are staring, and Ram looks genuinely troubled.
Still, I know Ram becomes the next student council president.
There were various reasons for her taking the role, but she mentioned with a smile that Miyazaki’s encouragement played a big part. Right now, she probably hasn’t fully made up her mind.
“That president’s pretty interesting,” I said.
“He doesn’t seem like someone Nagatsubaki-senpai can handle easily,” Arisu replied.
Well, it’s got nothing to do with us.
(…Wait a second.)
I suddenly thought about what would happen if Ram didn’t become the student council president.
This ties into what Ram mentioned in the past and her own events in the manga. Her becoming president led to the creation of various systems.
Some of those included rules to protect external students like the protagonist. There was also another male student running against her, but he had extreme discriminatory tendencies, and there was a scene that stirred anxiety about what would happen if Ram didn’t win.
(No way…)
But… seeing how reluctant Ram seems makes me a bit uneasy.
Still, I figured I was overthinking it and was about to pass by with Arisu when, unexpectedly, I was called out.
“Hey! Could you be Izayoi Akito-kun!?”
“…Huh?”
It was, of course, President Miyazaki.
Why me…? Before I could even process the question, Miyazaki smoothly slid in front of me.
It was clear he had business with me, and though he didn’t seem to pay Arisu any mind, I instinctively stepped in front of her to shield her.
“What is it, President Miyazaki?”
“Ah! I wish I’d met you a year earlier… Not a day goes by that I don’t wish you were a first-year when I was a second-year!”
“…”
“I was at the Saijo family’s party, you see. And at that moment, I sensed incredible potential in you!”
Miyazaki continued.
“I had no interest in you before, but at that moment, I became utterly fascinated! You’re interesting now… which is why I was planning to invite you to join next year’s student council. I won’t be there, but I think it’d be a lot of fun!”
Me, in the student council…?
I don’t want any more responsibilities or pressure, so my answer is obvious.
“Uh… sorry, but no thanks.”
“I see… that’s a shame.”
“You’re taking that pretty lightly for someone who invited me.”
“It’s not something to force… though I suppose I can’t say that when I’m pressuring Nagatsubaki like this.”
Fair point…
But there’s a chance Ram might not become president at this rate… and that’d be a problem. I don’t think it’s a big deal, but I’ll say something just in case.
“Nagatsubaki-senpai has a great reputation among the underclassmen for being kind. Considering that, she seems like she’d be a good fit for student council president.”
“Oh! You think so too!?”
“What about you, Arisu?”
Arisu nodded when I asked her.
“Of course, her motivation is the most important, but I think seeing Nagatsubaki-senpai as president would be interesting. I agree she’d suit the role.”
“Even you two…”
I didn’t think our words would make a difference… or so I thought, but Ram let out a resigned sigh.
“It’s not that I dislike the idea… I just wasn’t confident I could handle it.”
“No, I absolutely believe you can do it!” Miyazaki exclaimed.
“…With underclassmen encouraging me, I’ll consider it seriously.”
“Oh, really!? That’s a huge help!!”
Miyazaki’s joy was palpable.
At that moment, I felt a glance directed at us. When I looked over, I saw a second-year male student—the one from Ram’s flashback—glaring at us with a displeased expression.
“Akito-san, shall we go?”
“Got it.”
In the end, Arisu took my hand, and we left the scene.
As soon as we got into the car driven by Sakuragi-san, Arisu placed a hand over her mouth, chuckling, and said:
“You’re so easy to read, Akito-san. Though, maybe I only notice because I’m always watching you.”
“Huh?”
“You want Nagatsubaki-senpai to become student council president, don’t you? I could tell from your gaze.”
“…That’s impressive.”
She could tell that much?
It did feel like Arisu was watching my face the entire time we were talking with Miyazaki and the others.
“And that male senpai who was looking at us… he’s got some dark rumors about him. You were concerned about him for a moment too, weren’t you?”
“You really notice everything.”
“Hehe♪”
Arisu’s smile was adorable, but there was something almost frightening about how she seemed to see through all my thoughts.
She gently took my hand, and with a hint of coldness in her tone, she continued:
“It’s my role to support what you want and what you wish to do. That’s why I always want to understand you… Maybe only when I can understand your thoughts without words will I become the version of myself I want to be.”
Her whispered words echoed in my ears, over and over.
Her faintly dark gaze locked onto me, reflecting my usual expressionless face… but my heart was desperately trying not to be overwhelmed by her aura.
Maybe because I was thinking that, I mumbled something under my breath.
“That… doesn’t sound great.”
“…What was that?”
“No, I mean, isn’t it healthier to communicate with words? Even if we could understand each other without them, I want to keep talking with you like this… Is that weird?”
Uh… sorry.
The chilling tone of her “What was that?” was so intense that my fear turned into that embarrassing statement.
“…You’re right. I’d rather talk with you too. Sorry… I said something strange.”
Arisu said, resting her head on my shoulder.
Sakuragi-san, watching our exchange through the rearview mirror, gave a warm nod when our eyes met.
(That “What was that?” just now… it had some serious yandere vibes…)
(…To think that someone like me could be so shaken by a single word. But maybe it’s because it’s Akito-san… Heh, not bad at all.)
