Chapter 68 The Saint’s decision is amazing
The next morning.
I asked Captain Ronny to handle the usual training in the morning, and I left the knights’ grounds to head towards the church.
“Excuse me.”
“Oh, Hadar, good to see you. Let me check Mordena-sama’s schedule; please wait a moment.”
When I spoke to the receptionist, they went to check the saint’s schedule before even hearing my request.
Hold on a second. My business this time is more with the director or someone similar; it doesn’t really involve Mordena-san. But since the receptionist has already gone, I’ll have to explain that when they return. I feel bad that their effort to check the schedule will be for nothing.
As I was thinking this, the receptionist came back enthusiastically, accompanied by a woman.
“Hadar, great news! Mordena-sama happened to be here today. She has some time to talk right now.”
Oh no… Not only did they check the schedule, but they brought Mordena-san herself.
“It’s been a while, Hadar! How about we have some tea?”
“Ah… sure.”
With a bright smile, she suggested having tea, making it difficult for me to say I was here for something else.
“Well then, let’s talk in the room where you administered the medicine last time!”
“O-Okay.”
Led by Mordena-san, I moved to the room we used previously for the vaccine trial. Though she suggested tea, I hadn’t developed any new medicine or healing magic. What could we possibly talk about?
◇
“Um… first, I apologize. Actually, calling Mordena-san was a misunderstanding by the receptionist. I don’t have anything specific to discuss with you today. I’m sorry for taking up your time…”
After some hesitation about what to say, I decided to start with an apology for wasting her time.
“Oh, I see. But since we’re already here, would you mind telling me who you were planning to speak with and what the matter was?”
Mordena-san responded with a smile. Despite her busy schedule, she was incredibly gracious.
“Well, this time, I wanted to discuss with the director of the Healing Association about the possibility of holding an emergency National Healing License Exam soon.”
Since she asked, I explained my reason for being here. The purpose was to ensure the “Zelgius Rangers” could become certified healers as quickly as possible.
“Oh, and why is that? You already have your healer’s license, don’t you?”
“Actually, I’ve been in charge of the tactical training for the ‘Zelgius Rangers’ recently… I gave them an intensive course, and now all of them can perform Perfect Heal. I want them to be able to use it in the field as soon as possible, so I’m trying to expedite their certification. It would be beneficial to the nation as well. What do you think?”
“All the Ranger members can use Perfect Heal!? Hadar-san, how exactly did you manage that…”
When I explained my intention, Mordena-san seemed more focused on the fact that the Rangers had learned Perfect Heal rather than the main point.
“Well, I… repeatedly cast Perfect Heal on them to let them experience the technique firsthand, and I assisted with their mana control to help them grasp the concept.”
“I see… I don’t fully understand the latter part, but it sounds like a revolutionary method. I’d love for you to teach our rookies too… we’ll compensate you generously!”
“Thank you. I’d be happy to, if the opportunity arises.”
Explaining the curriculum landed me another potential job. That was a stroke of luck.
“But if that’s the case, I think you did the right thing by speaking to me directly!”
As I was thinking this, the conversation abruptly returned to the main topic. But what did she mean by “the right thing by speaking to me”?
“What do you mean by that?”
“Well, the emergency National Healing License Exam can indeed be proposed at the board meeting and approved through the proper channels. However, this process would take several months. In contrast, with my authority, I can execute it smoothly without needing to go through the board approval process. Since you’re busy with various things, wouldn’t this be more convenient for you?”
Listening to her, I realized how incredibly helpful Mordena-san’s proposal was.
Now that she mentioned it, I remembered my mother once telling me, “One trick to speeding up projects in companies that take a long time to approve things is to get the highest decision-maker’s approval first.” I never imagined that I would inadvertently activate this trick with the highest decision-maker herself proposing it.
Given the curriculum I had planned, it wouldn’t take the “Zelgius Rangers” months to complete the necessary studies to pass the exam. It was also incredibly convenient that I wouldn’t need to attend board meetings.
“Is that really okay? I wouldn’t want to trouble you…”
“Of course! Hadar-san, you’ve done so much for us. Let us repay you even a little.”
“Thank you! If we go through you, how soon could we hold the exam?”
“If we push things, we could do it in a week. Naturally, we can prepare in advance and set a flexible date, so just let us know a few days in advance based on the Rangers’ study progress.”
“I can’t thank you enough for everything.”
Overwhelmed by her divine assistance, I could only express my deepest gratitude.
“I’ll inform you of the desired exam date in a few days!”
“Alright, I’ll be waiting!”
Thus, what initially seemed like a wasted visit to the church turned into an incredibly smooth process. I was initially exasperated by the receptionist’s mistake, but given how positively everything turned out, I should be grateful to him as well.
