Chapter 34 Business Handover – 2
Based on the reactions from my detection magic, there are no monsters on this cape that can move faster than Metal Wolf. This means I can use that technique.
I sent a different signal to Metal Wolf, switching its mode. The current mode is “Lure Magic Wave.”
In this mode, Metal Wolf’s magic stone emits a magic wave that tricks monsters into thinking it’s prey. By having Metal Wolf run near the monsters, they’ll chase after it.
“Alright, make a circuit around the entire cape.”
With that command, Metal Wolf dashed off swiftly.
“…Where did you send that magic tool, and for what?”
“It’s about to show its true hunting prowess.”
I knew my answer was a bit vague, but they’d understand soon enough.
“Let’s take a break for now. How about we have lunch?”
We had some time to kill until Metal Wolf returned, so we decided to have an early lunch. I took out the meals stored with my magic and handed them to the three of them.
“…What’s this?”
“It’s the daily special from Zelgius Royal Magic Academy. I buy them in bulk and store them with magic so I can have them every day. They’re quite tasty.”
“Daily special, huh? Never would have guessed.”
As we chatted, we ate our meals. By the time we finished eating, it was almost time for Metal Wolf to return.
“It should be about now.”
I stood up and looked towards the direction from which Metal Wolf was expected to return. From that direction, Metal Wolf appeared, followed by a massive horde of monsters.
Seeing this, Floyd and the others were so shocked that they fell to the ground.
“Gah… What the hell!”
“What is that sight…?”
“So that’s what you meant by the hunting dog’s true prowess…”
The S-Rank adventurer Weather looked at me with a pleading expression and asked:
“H-Hey, what are you going to do about that!?”
“Of course, I’m going to take them down. This way, it saves us a lot of trouble.”
I answered while gauging the right moment to attack as the enemy horde closed in. Just as Metal Wolf passed by us, I initiated my attack.
The technique I used, of course, was Rapid-Fire Dragon Flash. I hit each monster with a single blast, annihilating them before they had any chance to defend.
“It’s done.”
I said, as I stored the mountain of monster corpses.
“We’ve cleared out all the monsters on this cape, so let’s head back.”
I suggested, but they stood there, mouths agape, unable to respond.
What’s going on? Did I miss a monster casting some kind of status effect spell on them?
To be safe, I cast Area Absolute Heal. But there was no change.
After a while, Deputy Commander Floyd finally muttered:
“Is this… a dream?”
It’s not a dream.
“That was… way too fast. I’ve never seen an attack magic with that kind of rapid-fire capability…”
S-Rank adventurer May added.
“And each blast had incredible power… What kind of magic was that?”
Lastly, Weather asked.
“The spell is called Rapid-Fire Dragon Flash. There’s a spell called Dragon Flash, which is a concentrated version of a dragon’s breath. What you saw was the rapid-fire version of that spell.”
I briefly explained the magic I used. Deputy Commander Floyd, seemingly understanding something, murmured:
“I see now, the mystery of your power is finally solved. Hadar, you’re a dragon using a human transformation technique, aren’t you?”
No, I’m not.
“Rapid-Fire Dragon Flash is too complex for dragons to use.”
“But it’s based on a dragon’s breath, right?”
“That’s true, but the modifications to the magic circle have made it too difficult for dragons to control.”
“No, what I meant was, how can a human use a dragon’s breath in the first place!”
Well, it ultimately comes down to magic being just another kind of spell, but… okay.
“Anyway, shall we head back?”
“Yeah, there’s no point in staying here if there are no more monsters.”
With that, we started our return journey. I decided to leave Metal Wolf behind as a guard dog.
If any new monsters land here tonight, Metal Wolf should be able to handle them unless they’re exceptionally strong.
On the way back, Deputy Commander Floyd and S-Rank adventurer May were discussing among themselves:
“Where did they find someone like him? I’m so envious of Bamboo Inside Construction.”
“I’m rather glad he’s not an adventurer. As a freelancer, having someone that skilled around would take away all the work.”
Speaking of which, I wonder what the working conditions are like in the knight’s order. Being a public servant probably means stability, but I doubt they get 125 days off a year.

Chapter 35 Surveillance System Using Magic Tools
The next day.
Finally, on the day when the construction work resumed, I arrived at the Ashgano Cape with the workers, the construction management team, and Jasmine.
As we reached a spot where we could see the tip of the cape, we were suddenly attacked.
“Howl!”
A winged, jet-black horse-like monster flew in from above, but it exploded and scattered in response to the ultrasonic attack.
“What just happened?” “Did a monster just explode?” “Wasn’t that a Phantom Pegasus?” “Something that can destroy a capital of a medium-sized country in an instant… just got taken out like that…”
The workers witnessing the scene started to murmur.
“If there’s a monster that can take out a Phantom Pegasus in one hit… this place really is a demon land…”
At this point, one of the construction management engineers began to misunderstand the situation, so I hurriedly added an explanation.
“Don’t worry. The horse just now was taken down by my hunting dog, not a monster from the Inferno Continent.”
As I said this, I pointed to Metal Wolf at the tip of the cape. At the same time, I sent a magical signal to call Metal Wolf over.
“Sit.”
I had Metal Wolf take a pose that showed it was friendly to demonstrate it was on our side.
“It’s true…” “He’s really tamed that terrifying wolf…” “So, that means this guy is stronger than that wolf? Just how powerful is he…?”
Despite their surprise, the workers and construction management engineers recognized Metal Wolf as an ally. With the misunderstanding cleared up, I sent Metal Wolf back to the tip of the cape.
“I, along with this hunting dog, will be handling security operations, so please proceed with the construction work without any worries. Not a single monster will enter the cape.”
“Understood!” everyone responded energetically when I explained the security measures.
“I never imagined this site would be so easy. And we still get the danger zone allowance? This is the best!”
“Don’t get too complacent. While the specific dangers of Ashgano Cape might be gone, the usual risks of a construction site still exist,” one of the construction managers quickly cautioned the excited workers.
Of course, even if someone got injured from a fall, I could always use Perfect Heal to fix them up.
With that thought, I moved a little away from the site with Jasmine. We took out the prefab watchtower I had prepared earlier using storage magic and began our lookout duties from inside.
◇
At the watchtower.
With some free time on my hands, I decided to make use of it by crafting magical tools.
This time, I aimed to create an aerial reconnaissance drone and an unmanned submarine. The goal was to further enhance our security measures.
However, unlike Metal Wolf, these devices wouldn’t have any offensive capabilities. The magical tools I intended to make would function more like relay stations for offensive magic. In other words, if I transferred the magic circle and necessary mana for Dragon Flash to the tool, it would emit the Dragon Flash beam.
There are two reasons for this approach.
First, creating an offensive magical tool capable of handling monsters that even Metal Wolf couldn’t defeat would be quite challenging. While I could make such a tool by incorporating more advanced and complex magic circles, it would take a lot of time. Thus, it wouldn’t be suitable for immediate reinforcement.
The second reason is that such magical tools would make ambushes easier. Monsters generally assess threats based on the quality of magic stones and the amount of consumed energy. Therefore, magical tools made with the magic stones I’ve acquired so far wouldn’t be seen as threats by more powerful monsters. Additionally, if these tools operate with the minimum energy needed for stationary deployment, monsters would perceive them as “sleeping weaklings.”
Using these magical tools as relay points for one-hit-kill level offensive spells would make ambushes much easier, allowing me to land attacks more effectively than if I were to strike directly. Essentially, it simplifies dealing with formidable enemies.
Currently, our underwater security is lacking, so I started by making the unmanned submarine. By engraving a magic circle on a magic stone and attaching the necessary parts created with alchemy magic, I completed the unmanned submarine.
“What did you make?” Jasmine asked.
“It’s a relay for offensive magic. This one’s for underwater,” I replied as I walked to the cliff and deployed the submarine. By closing my eyes, I could see the underwater environment through the sensory sharing function attached to the submarine.
I spotted a large, oddly-colored octopus, so I transferred the Dragon Flash spell. The spell successfully transferred, and the submarine released a beam that instantly killed the octopus.
“Wow… a mini Cthulhu just surfaced… You did that, right?” Jasmine exclaimed.
“It’s called a mini Cthulhu? That’s a cute name,” I remarked.
“Don’t be silly. That thing’s species has a history of decimating navies single-handedly,” she retorted.
I also tested the storage magic transfer and successfully stored the mini Cthulhu.
After that, I returned to the watchtower and began creating aerial reconnaissance drones. I made two of them and set them afloat.
Since we’ve already cleared out the enemies, there’s no one to test them on at the moment, but if something comes up, I’ll give them a trial run.
