Chapter 32 Healing Work-Related Injuries
Three days had passed since my daily mock battles with the Metal Wolf began.
That evening, while having dinner at the inn, Jasmine came to sit beside me.
“Here you go, the project plans,” she said, handing over some documents.
“Thanks,” I replied.
Earlier that morning, I had asked Jasmine to get copies of the fortress construction project plans from the Ashgano branch. Now, they had arrived.
“I got both the original project plan and the revised one for the restart,” Jasmine said, pointing to the two separate sets of documents.
I began reviewing the materials while eating. Budget, timeline, schedule, personnel—I carefully checked each section. Then, I noticed something odd.
“Hmm… why are there so many fewer workers in the restart plan?”
For some reason, the new plan had about 30% fewer workers compared to the original construction plan. As a result, the project timeline had been extended to about 1.5 times the original duration.
Jasmine answered my question. “Oh, that’s probably because of the work-related injuries.”
“Injuries?”
Could it be that the missing 30% were workers who had gotten injured and were now unable to work? But this project had been on hold for about two years, right?
It seemed pretty harsh that they hadn’t been able to recover from their injuries in that time.
“When I got the documents, I heard from the branch employees… In the previous construction plan, a significant number of workers who encountered monsters from the Inferno Continent developed stress disorders. Of course, the company covers the cost of counseling and other treatments, but it’s been hard for many of them to return to the field.”
I initially thought the company might not be providing proper support, but it turns out they’re quite conscientious. That’s a relief.
Still, if it’s PTSD, it should be something that Absolute Heal can cure.
“Why don’t they use Absolute Heal?”
“Are you serious? Do you know how rare it is for someone to be able to use that magic?”
“If we asked Mordena, she could have cured everyone in two years…”
“Wait, do you mean Saint Mordena? Her Absolute Heal is extremely precious. She only uses it for life-threatening illnesses, and even then, only for VIPs…”
I see. The conditions are that strict. In that case, I’ll have to do it myself.
“Alright, let’s go for treatment tomorrow. Can you guide me to the church?”
“Wait… treatment? Are you saying you can use Absolute Heal?”
“I used Absolute Heal on you two who were scared by the flaming bird during our first inspection.”
“What… I didn’t realize I received such high-level treatment…”
I don’t want the construction schedule to be delayed because of this. I’ll heal them quickly and increase the available workforce as much as possible.
◇
The next day.
With Jasmine guiding me, I headed to the church where the injured workers were staying.
On the way, Jasmine seemed to remember something important and asked, “By the way… even if you can use Absolute Heal, what are you planning to do once we get to the church? Without a healer’s license, you won’t be allowed to do anything…”
She had a point, but fortunately, that wasn’t an issue.
“I have one,” I said, showing her the healer’s license issued by the capital’s church.
“Why do you have that…”
“I got it when I did an internship. They let me take the exam, and I passed.”
“How can you get that as a side thing…”
Well, if it’s just about healing, I could cast an area Absolute Heal from the lobby. However, since the goal is to get them back to work, it’s crucial to provide proper healing documentation. Being able to operate as an official healer is definitely preferable.
As we walked and talked, we finally arrived at the Ashgano branch of the church. Entering the church, I approached the receptionist and presented my healer’s license.
“I’m Hadar, a healer specializing in stress disorders. I’d like to see the workers injured in the construction accident.”
“Um, please wait a moment…”
The receptionist said this and went into the back room.
It’s not that I actually specialize in stress disorders, but saying so would make things go more smoothly.
After a short wait, the receptionist returned with a middle-aged man.
“I’m Honmar, the head of the Ashugano branch. You said you specialize in stress disorders? Please, do examine them.”
It seemed I would be able to proceed with the examination without any issues.
“And who is this young lady?”
“Oh, I’m the daughter of the president of Bamboo Inside Construction…”
“I see. So you’re introducing a good healer for your employees. You’ll make a good president someday.”
“Um…”
Receiving unexpected praise from the branch head, Jasmine looked slightly bewildered. Well, it’s not entirely wrong, so it’s a good thing.
With Branch Head Honmar guiding us, we proceeded to visit the patients’ rooms.
◇
At the first patient’s room.
“Aaaah!”
In the room, a man was clutching his head and screaming.
“It seems he just had an attack. This happens about once every four days…”
Branch Head Honmar explained the situation.
For now, I activated Absolute Heal.
“Uh… what?”
The seizure subsided instantly.
“Good morning, Branch Chief. Who are these two?”
He started talking to the branch chief calmly, as if nothing had happened.
“Well… he’s a healer specializing in stress disorders, but I didn’t expect such immediate results.”
“Indeed. It felt as if a strange sense of comfort washed over me, and the nightmares vanished from my mind.”
He calmly explained what had happened to him. Then, he suddenly made this request.
“Um… could I return to work? I now feel confident I can handle seeing those flaming birds without any fear.”
The branch chief widened his eyes in surprise at those words.
“What…!? To think I’d hear such words from you…”
“With nothing left to fear now, I just feel ashamed of not working for two years.”
“I see… let me check something.”
The branch chief took out a drawing from his pocket. It depicted the infamous flaming bird.
“Does this evoke any feelings?”
“No, it doesn’t. If anything, I’m a bit angry thinking this was the cause of my long absence.”
Naturally, he remained completely calm while looking at the picture.
“Hmm… it does seem you’re fully cured…”
After some thought, the branch chief concluded.
“Alright, understood. I’ll issue a medical clearance as requested.”
At least one person has successfully reintegrated into society.
◇
Following this, I continued the treatment sessions, casting Absolute Heal while the branch chief verified the recovery. Everyone received their medical clearance smoothly. Now, we could proceed with the construction plan with the original number of workers.
“Report this to the Ashgano branch office.”
“Got it… I’ll also inform my father to pay your medical fees, Hadar.”
With that conversation, we headed back to our lodgings.
