Chapter 28 Off to the Ashgano Peninsula
Two days later, I received another call from the president. It seemed that the negotiation to count my participation as class attendance had succeeded.
According to the president, “Most of the teachers said they would give you credits whether you attend classes or not, so honestly, I didn’t really need to negotiate.” What does that even mean? The grading system at this academy is way too lenient.
And surprisingly, it wasn’t just me who got the approval. Jasmine was also granted the same permission.
The president apparently convinced the principal, saying, “Since Jasmine will take over Bamboo Inside Construction in the future, she should see this site.” Most of the school’s buildings were constructed by Bamboo Inside Construction or its affiliated companies, so the principal couldn’t refuse.
This is the power of a mega construction company. I’ve really come to know an extraordinary reality.
After a brief discussion, I carefully reviewed the contract and stamped it. I confirmed that most of the budget from the country would be my reward, and I also ensured there were no penalties for non-fulfillment midway.
Then, over the weekend, Jasmine and I set off for the Ashgano Peninsula by carriage.
With some time to kill, I decided to start reading a book. Shortly after, Jasmine peeked over and asked,
“Wow, what’s that book? Ancient language? How can you read that?”
“It’s a book called ‘Quantum Chemistry of Magical Potions.’ It’s quite interesting.”
“Sounds difficult just from the title.”
“Well, fully understanding it in one go might be tough.”
I had given up on this book once before because it made no sense to me. To better grasp the content, I thoroughly studied “Applied Quantum Theory of Magical Elements” to perfect my foundational knowledge. Thanks to that, I can somewhat understand this book now, but I’ll still need to read it several times to fully comprehend it. I still have a long way to go.
As I continued reading, I’d cast Perfect Heal whenever I started feeling carsick. After a while, Jasmine asked me another question.
“There’s a constant presence of an incredible healing magic. Are you doing something?” Jasmine asked.
“Yeah, I’m using Perfect Heal. I get carsick easily.”
“You’re using Perfect Heal for something like that!?”
Something like that? It’s actually pretty important…
“As far as I know, Perfect Heal isn’t meant to be used repeatedly just to keep reading while on a carriage.”
“I’m using less magic power than my natural recovery rate, so it’s fine.”
“What kind of magic capacity do you have for that to be possible…”
Jasmine sighed, seemingly exasperated. A few seconds later, she seemed to remember something and changed the topic.
“By the way, Hadar, didn’t you come from deep in the mountains? Wasn’t the journey tough if you get carsick?”
That’s right. We briefly talked about this during lunch after our business discussion.
“I flew here, so it was fine.”
“Flew…?”
“My mom flew me here.”
“Flying mother… I don’t know what kind of metaphor that is, but if you say so, I’ll take your word for it.”
When I revealed how I traveled from the cave to the capital, for some reason, she didn’t believe me.
Then, out of nowhere, she asked a question that seemed completely out of context.
“Can you use that method of travel without your mother?”
“Well…”
It’s strange that she’d think it could be done without my mom when I said she flew me. But, oddly enough, the answer isn’t “no.”
Actually, I can fly on my own. I developed a spell that reverses the mechanism of my mom’s “Transformation Technique” magic circle, creating a “Dragon Transformation Technique.”
Just as my mom’s “Transformation Technique” doesn’t fully turn her into a human, the “Dragon Transformation Technique” only changes my appearance to that of a dragon. In that form, I can fly.
On the day of the entrance exam, my mom flew me so I could conserve my magic and be in the best condition. It wasn’t that I had no means to travel by myself.
“I can fly by myself,” I said.
“Really? How?” Jasmine asked, suddenly more intrigued than ever.
“I transform into a dragon.”
“W-What…? Um, if it’s okay with you, can I try it too?”
“Try it?” I asked.
“Like, can I ride on your back like your mom did with you?”
I didn’t mind, really.
“As long as you can show me the direction to the peninsula. But are you sure it’s okay to not use the carriage they prepared for us?”
“It’s fine. My father arranged it, but as long as we get there by the deadline, we can travel however we want.”
I was a bit concerned about ignoring the carriage arranged at company expense, but if the boss’s daughter says it’s okay, it should be fine.
“Alright. Excuse me, driver, could you stop for a moment?” I said.
To transform, I needed to get off the carriage. After a brief conversation with the driver, Jasmine got off as well.
I activated the “Dragon Transformation Technique” and transformed into a dragon.
“A-a real dragon…”
“Hold onto a scale or something. That should be the most stable position.”
Once Jasmine had climbed up from my tail to my back, I slowly lifted off into the sky.
“Just to be clear, don’t accelerate faster than free fall, okay?”
“Free fall, got it. I’ll be careful.”
It might be a bit slow, but it wouldn’t make much difference if it took a few extra minutes to reach top speed.
“Which direction is the peninsula?” I asked.
“That way,” Jasmine said, using a light spell to point the way.
I accelerated in that direction, enclosing Jasmine in an anti-physical barrier to protect her from air resistance.
An hour later, we safely arrived at the peninsula, just as it looked on the map.
“This is unbelievable… It was supposed to take a week to get here, and we’ve already arrived…”
As I reverted from my dragon form, Jasmine murmured in astonishment.
So the Company President’s daughter mounted him
