Abandoned in the mountains, I was adopted by a lizard ~I mastered magic and surpassed my parents, but I didn't know they were legendary ancient dragons~ - Chapter 21
Chapter 21 Client First
It seemed the Saintess’s request was essentially for magic consulting. Since I had never taught anyone magic before, I wasn’t entirely sure how to go about it efficiently, but I decided to do my best.
“Alright, then. Let’s start with me casting Absolute Heal once. Watch carefully and try to mimic it.”
I suggested this with the hope that observing each other’s methods might reveal something useful. I then demonstrated the casting of Absolute Heal as I had done the previous day.
“That was incredibly smooth… I considered myself the best healer in the country, but to think there is someone so far beyond me,” Mordena said, watching in awe.
“Now, please give it a try, Mordena,” I urged, bringing her focus back to the task at hand.
When she attempted to cast Absolute Heal, the problem became immediately apparent.
The construction of the magic circle’s energy infusion part was abnormally slow. A magic circle consists of the control part, which dictates the magical phenomenon, and the energy infusion part, which injects the necessary magical energy. While she completed the control part relatively quickly, the speed dropped to about 1% when she reached the energy infusion part. This indicated that the bottleneck in her casting speed was the time it took to infuse the required magical energy.
This meant that the solution was to steadily increase her total magical capacity through training. While the control part’s speed could be improved with practice, increasing the energy infusion speed required a higher magical output, which is strongly correlated with one’s total magical capacity.
“It seems the only solution is to keep increasing your total magical capacity,” I concluded, even though she hadn’t finished casting yet.
“Oh, I see…” Mordena visibly deflated upon hearing this. Realizing that it wasn’t something that could be resolved quickly must have been disheartening.
“So, it will take quite a while, then,” she added with a sigh.
“I’m sorry for asking you something so unreasonable…”
Despite not having resolved anything, she expressed her gratitude and bowed deeply.
I couldn’t help but feel a bit frustrated at the idea of ending things here after she went through the trouble of asking for my help. There had to be something I could do.
As I pondered, a phrase my mother had once said to me came to mind. She had been teaching me about industry research for job hunting at the time.
“The essence of consulting is to identify and address the client’s ‘real concern.’ It’s about guiding them towards their true objective, which lies behind the initial issue they present.”
In this case, what was the Saintess’s “real concern”? The difficulty in casting advanced magic quickly was likely just a surface issue.
The core issue was probably something like, “I want to heal more patients” or “I want to be able to treat a wider variety of illnesses and injuries.”
With that in mind…
“Mordena, may I ask what types of cases you’re trying to treat with Absolute Heal?”
“Well… cases like magical immune disorders or curse-induced organ failure…”
As she listed numerous cases, I became certain.
“Most of these cases can actually be treated without Absolute Heal, right?”
“Eh?”
“For example, most of the cases you mentioned can be effectively treated with a more focused Perfect Heal.”
That’s it. I just needed to propose an alternative treatment method she could already use frequently. By concentrating the effects of Perfect Heal on a specific area, it would produce a healing effect far greater than the usual application.
This means that many patients who previously could only be treated with Absolute Heal could now be treated effectively.
Even if Mordena never managed to cast Absolute Heal quickly, this approach would significantly address her “real concern.”
“Is it really possible to increase the focus of Perfect Heal?” she asked, intrigued.
“Let me show you.”
To explain, I projected a hologram of the Perfect Heal magic circle using light magic. I highlighted the area control part of the formula in red and the rest in yellow.
“By modifying this red section, you can adjust the effect range. For example, if you do this… the effect of Perfect Heal will be concentrated within a five-centimeter diameter.”
As I altered the pattern in the red section, I explained this to her.
“A high-density Perfect Heal has a healing effect that a regular Perfect Heal doesn’t. With a few exceptions, most of the conditions you mentioned should be treatable with this method.”
I concluded my explanation with this statement.
“If it’s Perfect Heal, it should be much easier to cast, right?”
“Yes! I wouldn’t say it’s easy, but it’s definitely far more manageable compared to Absolute Heal.”
I kept the magic circle’s holographic projection up for Mordena, who was furiously taking notes. It seemed we had finally resolved the issue.
After about thirty minutes of displaying the magic circle, Mordena finally finished her notes.
“Thank you very much. I’m truly grateful for not only helping me but also providing an alternative solution!”
She bowed deeply once again, this time with a beaming smile, and rang a bell on the desk to call the attendant. She then gave these instructions:
“The budget will be covered by the state. Please pay this gentleman 1.2 billion kururu for the use of his magic. Additionally, offer him a director’s position in the Healing Association, and handle the necessary procedures.”
“Understood!” the attendant replied, bowing deeply to Mordena before leaving.
Wow. While the magic usage fee is one thing, a director’s position too? I guess the Saintess holds more discretionary power than I thought.
“The title of a director in the Healing Association is regarded as equivalent to at least a baron in any country worldwide. Feel free to use it as you see fit. Also, attendance at the regular board meetings will be optional for you, so don’t worry about that!”
Oh, that’s quite an influential title on a global scale. The church certainly has a wide reach. Nobility sounds like a hassle, but it might come in handy in unexpected ways, so I might as well accept it gratefully.
