Abandoned in the mountains, I was adopted by a lizard ~I mastered magic and surpassed my parents, but I didn't know they were legendary ancient dragons~ - Chapter 2
Chapter 2 First Magic Training
I turned four.
While taking my usual walk in the mountains, a giant bear appeared in front of me. Its name was, if I recall correctly, a Gigant Grizzly.
“Ha!”
With a casual roundhouse kick, I knocked the bear out in one blow. Although it was a casual kick, I aimed for the head with a high kick to avoid causing unnecessary damage to the meat.
Our cave’s food supply had dwindled significantly, so I was looking for something to replenish it. The prey appearing on its own was very convenient.
Judging by the weight, it was about 1.4 tons, so we could get around 600 kilograms of meat. This should keep our household’s food supply secure for a while.
…Though, eating bear meat every day can get monotonous, so I won’t stop looking for other food sources. Thinking this, I carried the bear back to the cave.

When I returned to the cave, my mother seemed different than usual. By “mother,” I mean the large creature that picked me up.
“You’re turning four, Hadar. It’s time to start your studies bit by bit.”
I couldn’t understand a single word of my mother’s unique language when I was younger, but now it’s become my native tongue. Once a week, considering my future, we have a day where we speak in the language I used before being abandoned, but otherwise, we mainly speak in Dragon Tongue.
I didn’t know what studying entailed, but it seemed like something new was about to begin.
I hoped it would be something fun.
“Let’s start with learning how to use magic.”
“Okay!”
Magic… that mysterious power my mother occasionally uses. Hearing that word, my anticipation soared. I’d always been curious and wanted to try it myself, so this was really exciting.
“Well, let’s begin with Dragon’s Breath.”
Mother decided on the first magic for me to learn. Wait, Dragon’s Breath?
“Dragon’s Breath? That’s the fire you breathe to burn things, right? Can I really use that too?”
Is that even magic? I thought it was a special breathing technique unique to dragons.
“Yes. It looks like it’s coming out of my mouth, but it’s a proper magic spell. With enough magical power and knowledge of the magic circle, even a human can use it.”
As I wondered, Mother explained and showed me the magic circle. I see, so that’s how it works.
“If you visualize the magic circle in your mind and focus on ‘shooting over there,’ the magic will activate. Make sure to aim at the sky and not the ground to avoid a disaster.”
“Got it!”
Following her instructions, I pictured the magic circle she showed me in my mind. To make it easier, I raised my right hand and focused on the idea of the breath shooting from my palm.
Then… a massive flamethrower shot into the sky. It had a similar feel to what Mother did, so I probably succeeded.
“Incredible… you succeeded on the first try.”
Looking over, I saw Mother standing there, dumbfounded.
“I thought I’d try teaching you something this difficult right off the bat, just in case, and this is the result? For a dragon, it takes an average of two years to master… Human magical control is truly terrifying.”
Mother stared at the lingering smoke in the sky, her mouth agape. She seemed quite shocked… Did I do something wrong?
“Um… Was that bad?”
“N-no, not at all! I was just a bit surprised because it was much more powerful than when I first succeeded. Being able to cast that is incredible.”
“Really?”
Phew, that’s a relief. For a moment, I was worried, but it seems nothing was wrong. Her saying it was “incredible” might just be parental pride or a compliment, but at least I didn’t fall below expectations.
It looks like studying magic will be fun.
“Mother, what will you teach me next?”
“Well… just wait a moment. I didn’t expect this level, so I need to rethink the curriculum…”
After that, I continued to enjoy learning various kinds of magic, starting with refining the “Dragon’s Breath” into a beam-like “Dragon Flash.”
