Chapter 18: The Weak Demon Lord Negotiates with the Important Person at the Explorer School
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
To speak with someone important from the Explorer School, I stepped outside the dungeon.
The moment I did, the square—previously bustling with explorers—fell silent. Then someone shouted, and chaos erupted.
“I-It’s a skeleton!!”
“Is this a Stampede!? Evacuate anyone without explorer credentials, now!!”
“Hey, look!! A girl has been captured!!”
Explorers swarmed around me. It seemed there had been some misunderstanding, so I gently set Rio-san down.
“Excuse me, I am called the Demon Lord Olden. Is there anyone here affiliated with the Explorer School?”
When I revealed my identity truthfully, the square grew noisy again. However, this time, the commotion had a different tone—filled with suspicion, fear, and caution directed toward me.
Well, I guess that’s natural when you think about it calmly. It’s one thing to see me through a livestream, but if the Demon Lord suddenly walks out of a dungeon in person, of course anyone would freak out.
“Huh? O-Olden-san!?”
“Oh, if it isn’t Erika-san. What a coincidence.”
“Wha—wait, what’s going on here!?”
Just then, a familiar face peeked out from the group of explorers. It was Erika-san.
“Actually, long story short…”

“So, in other words, you want to take this Mushigami-san as your disciple, so you need to speak with someone important from the Explorer School? And since there might be someone here, you want to talk to them first?”
“Disciple!! What a lovely word!! Yes, exactly right.”
“O-Okay, just wait a minute!!”
With that, Erika-san disappeared into the crowd and soon returned, bringing someone along. It was a young man, with slit eyes and an untrustworthy vibe. He looked to be in his early twenties, but his movements were refined—clearly someone of great skill.
His aura wasn’t something an ordinary young man could possess. I judged his ability to be about on par with Akira-san… Perhaps a bit lower. The moment Rio-san saw his face, she flinched and cried out.
“Huh!? Wh-Why is the principal here…?”
“Oh? I didn’t expect to meet someone important so soon. Erika-san, what’s your relationship with him?”
“Actually, I was recently hired by the Explorer School as a sort of guest lecturer. A lot of explorers livestream these days, so the school wanted someone with that kind of knowledge. I’m just chaperoning today, though.”
“Ah, I see, I see.”
I turned to the young man and bowed politely.
“Pleased to meet you. I’m Olden, the Demon Lord.”
“Nice to meet you. I’m Tatsuya Ryuugasaki, principal of the Explorer School.”
Ryuugasaki-san bowed in return. Then, in the very next moment, he raised his head and suddenly pulled a knife from his sleeve, slashing at me. But of course, anyone could probably guess what happened next.
A regular knife couldn’t hurt me. The blade hit the hollow of my eye socket, and both Rio-san and Erika-san, who witnessed the scene up close, gasped in shock.
“Wh-What are you doing, Principal!?”
“Se-Sensei!? W-What are you—”
“Don’t worry, you two. There’s no damage to me.”
“…Yeah, I see that. Man, sorry ’bout that. Thought I might get famous if I got lucky and took you down, but turns out it’s true—you can’t kill a Demon Lord without a Hero’s Holy Sword.”
Ryuugasaki-san offered an apology that didn’t sound very sincere. He was really shady.
“So, what did you want to talk about?”
“I’d like to take Rio-san here as my disciple. Would it be possible for me to take her in for a while?”
“Huh? This girl?”
Ryuugasaki-san looked at Rio-san, and she flinched, turning her eyes away.
“Well, I don’t mind, really. But there’s a condition.”
“Hmm? The best I can offer is magic stones, though.”
“No need to be so wary. Rio-chan holds a special status even within the Explorer School. I can’t just hand her over without conditions.”
“Then what do you want?”
“To put it simply, I want to see how strong you can make Rio-chan. How about a duel against our school’s top three strongest students?”
The top three strongest. At those words, Rio-san turned pale and asked Ryuugasaki-san.
“U-Um, Principal… By those three, are they by any chance…?”
“Yup. The three from your cohort—the ‘Golden Generation.'”
“Golden Generation?”
“I-It’s the leader of the party I was just with!! There’s no way!! I can’t beat Grace-san!! And the other two will beat me to a pulp too!!”
Rio-san trembled violently. The party she’d been with—ah, the ones who didn’t throw up under my pressure. The strongest among them had been the blonde drill-haired girl…
Hmm, if those are the opponents, it should be doable.
“Sounds easy!! Okay, let’s do it!! When should we schedule it?”
“Wha—wait, O-Olden-san!? Please listen to me—”
“Let’s see, how about next month? We can gather a crowd and turn it into a big festival!”
“Perfect!! I love festivals!!”
“S-Someone, please stop these two—”
Rio-san was now sweating buckets, her whole body drenched. Placing a gentle hand on her shoulder, Erika-san spoke with a sigh.
“You’d better give up. Olden-san makes decisions based on momentum and vibes. And it seems like the principal’s got some kind of plan in mind, too.”
“M-Momentum and vibes? Is that really okay for a Demon Lord to act based on those…?”
“…Who knows?”
After discussing the detailed schedule with Ryuugasaki-san, I brought Rio-san back to the dungeon.

One month later. Facing the Explorer School’s strongest students—the so-called Golden Generation—Rio-san…
“U-Um, is it over already?”
“Eep!?”
“Hehe~ Th-that was easier than I thought. Hehehe, seeing everyone crawling on the ground like ants… It’s kind of cute, I think… Hehe.”
She achieved what could only be called a ridiculously overwhelming victory. But as of now not even Rio-san herself—or anyone else at the school—knew of this outcome yet.

Afterword:
Erika accepted the temporary lecturer job at the Explorer School because of the high pay. She’s planning to use that money for a surprise hot spring trip with Konatsu this summer, complete with a luxurious dinner.
