Chapter 5: Problems unique to girls 2
“…So, what’s the problem with that?”
“Sumire also likes Ryogoku too,”
Hiiragi said, pressing her forehead as if battling a headache.
Now it made sense… Hiiragi was worried about potential conflicts arising between Katase, whom Ryogoku has feelings for, and Tachibana, who has feelings for Ryogoku. Of course, assuming the rumours had solid evidence for that information.
“That, are you serious?”
“Yes I am. Given how Sumire has been talking advices from people about it.”
“I see, and so you’re worried about the impending minor fights arising between Katase and Tachibana?”
“If it stops with just some minor fights, I am fine with it… I’m actually, worried about Saya.”
“Well, it might be biased of me, but Tachibana does seem like the type who wouldn’t shy away from violence after all.”
“…Violence can actually feel cute when it comes to her,”
“What do you mean by that?”
I latched onto her cryptic comment.
“There’s a precedent. When it comes to the context of what Sumire has done before.”
Hiiragi looked down at the desk, recounting a story from the past.
“In our first year, there was a similar situation. That time as well, Sumire had been in a one-sided crush. The guy in question liked someone else. The difference was just that, this time, it was mutual between them.”
“Meaning in comparison to present case, if we apply it, it would be like Katase and Ryogoku like each other, and Sumire has a one-sided crush on Ryogoku.”
“Yes. If they had been officially dating, things might have turned out differently… But their feelings remaining till the realm of mutual liking was not good enough. From Sumire’s perspective it was a big weakness to use against them.”
“Weakness?”
“… As I was in a different class, I heard about it from friends afterward, … Sumire did some really terrible things to that girl. I didn’t hear the details, but she was bullied so badly that she stopped coming to school. It must have been extreme.”
“She stopped coming to school… Are you serious.”
It was something even worse than the result I was expecting. Because it was also my first-time hearing something like this, I couldn’t hold my surprise.
The image of Tachibana changed drastically in my mind. From a small yankee girl who I had imagined to create some minor nuisance to – someone who is crazy, without sense and a serious threat.
“…Did the school do nothing about it?”
“That I don’t know, but that girl still doesn’t come to school, and Sumire attends as if nothing happened. So, I doubt there was any significant action that can actually be called a significant action taken place. Even if there had been, I’m sceptical that the school would even handle that problem properly in the first place.”
I understood what Hiiragi was implying. After all, news about the instances where schools have tried to cover up bullying incidents to avoid bad publicity would surely be something that happens in future as well.
“Even if the school didn’t act, there are other ways. For example, seeking help through social media. Going public can bring support from people and masses too.”
“That’s an outsider’s perspective isn’t it. Besides, the person might not want help in the first place. They might want to be left alone as well… But again, that’s just my personal speculation, as a fellow outsider as well.”
After saying that, Hiiragi gave a self-deprecating smile.
Being left alone… heh
That struck a chord with me in my chest. It also made me realize that I had been imposing my own sense of justice to others right now as well.
It’s easy to feel pity or anger with respect to the person involved, is only because you’re not directly involved in that as well.
There are other ways to handle things, but they’re only my personal ideas and not something to impose on others.
Moreover, if I were in a situation where I was bullied to the point of not attending school… it’s most likely, that I might not even think of those solutions as well. I’d likely be too overwhelmed to even think about those stuff.
In the end, it’s up to the person involved. As someone who is not involved in this affair, I had no right to interfere whatsoever.
