Chapter 31: A place for apology, a cause of self-satisfaction 1
I wanted to talk to Ryogoku, or rather, I wanted to apologize to him.
But leave alone finding the right moment to call him for that, I couldn’t even find the right time to get close to him as well. Before I knew it, it was already after-school. Tachibana would probably monopolize Ryogoku’s time after this as well.
Given how things were today, it wouldn’t be surprising if she showed up even at the clubroom. I guess I got to try for another day now…
Resigning myself to this, I kept an eye on Tachibana’s movements, just in case.
Sure enough, when Tachibana stood up, she headed straight for Ryogoku’s seat. It was a scene I’d seen happen multiple times today already.
…Arre, aren’t they supposed to be go home together?
After exchanging a few words, Tachibana left Ryogoku and exit the classroom.
Contrary to my expectations, and in a good way, Tachibana walked out alone. As soon as she was completely out of sight, Ryogoku let his shoulders slump slightly. I couldn’t see his face from here, but given his figure turning small, and hunched, it made it clear to me that he was dead tired.
After a short while from then, Ryogoku also left the classroom. I knew I couldn’t miss this chance and quickly followed him.
“Ryogoku, got a moment?”
I caught up to Ryogoku just as he exited the hallway, calling out to his back.
“Nn? What’s up, Kazari-kun?”
Ryogoku, stopped and turned around, showing no sign of displeasure even after realizing it was me who called out to him. He was as polite as ever.
“Do you have some time now?”
“Well, let’s see, I have club activities soon, so just a bit.”
“I won’t take much of your time. I’ll be really quick.”
“You, you are quite forceful despite your appearances? Honestly, surprising.”
Ryogoku sighed with a slightly exasperated expression, turning his face toward the window as if contemplating what to do. Eventually, he resigned and opened his mouth.
“Alright then. This doesn’t seem like a conversation we should be having while standing here… let’s move somewhere else.”
I had no reason to refuse Ryogoku’s suggestion, so I simply nodded, replying, “Yeah,” keeping my response brief.
