Chapter 24: The plan proceeds to the second stage.
“…I confessed to you just the other day you know. And you, Kazari-kun, turned me down, didn’t you?”
“Y-Yeah.”
“I, I still like you, you know?”
‘After saying this much, rest you can understand, wouldn’t you?’ It was like, Katase’s had this written on her face
“….Uh, Well, it doesn’t really matter whether you like me or not, in fact, it doesn’t matter at all; the confession is just a formality’s sake, and what’s important in this, is how things will go on later.
“You don’t have to explain it to me in such detail. I understand your intentions, Kazari-kun. ….But still … BUT STILL.”
“Do you hate this plan?”
“Of course I hate it. Even if it’s just for the sake of it, I want to say ‘ok’.”
“No, that would be a problem.”
“I understand that too…”
Saying this, Katase pulled away from me and tidied her slightly dishevelled hair.
“Aaaaah, it’s going to be really tough, turning you down.”
“Sorry. This was the only plan I could come up with.”
“Yeah, really… but the fact that you really thought it through, kind of makes me happy as well.”
Katase gave an embarrassed smile, uttering those words which in turn made me feel awkwardly warm inside.
“…Is that so.”
“Yep! That is so!”
“So then, can I take that as a ‘yes’, that you will be going along with it?”
“…Un. Even though it’s hard for me to reject you speaking emotionally, but I still want to continue going to school with a smile.”
“—-Then, we’ll have to make sure this works out no matter what.”
And so, I stood up and again faced Katase saying that.
“Are you leaving already?”
“Yeah. There are still some things I need to take care of.”
“I see…”
Katase looked visibly disappointed. If you look like this, it will make it hard for me to leave instead.
I had another person to meet after her, someone who would also have to make a sacrifice… but well, I can be a little late too.
“Should I stay with you a little bit longer?”
“Eh—”
For a moment, her face lit up in joy. But she quickly shook her head saying ‘Un~nn’.
“Knowing how Kazari kun is working so hard for my sake, I can’t keep you here just because of my selfish desires. So, go.”
“If that the case, then it’s fine… but on a serious note, are you really, okay?”
“Yes! I’m fine! I’ll wait for you, Kazari-kun to become my knight in shining armour, okay?”
Saying that with a bright, almost childlike girly expression, left me stuck on how to react.
Well, I might as well respond in my usual way.
Several good for nothing lines popped into my head one after another, choosing one among them, I say it aloud.
“Until Katase comes to school, nothing will start. So, relating it to the context of being a knight in shining armour saving the princess feels actually wrong. If you still want to relate, it’s more like a shy vegetative hikikomori prince being dragged by a bold, assertive non-vegetative princess outside. Iyaa~ that does show just how strong women are.”
“…Fufu, I just can’t win against you, Kazari-kun. You’re too twisted.”
“I’ll take that as the highest compliment. Thank you, your highness… Well then.”
“Un, later again.”
Exchanging our goodbyes, I left Katase’s room.
The next person on my list… is ‘Ryogoku’.
