Chapter 21.5: ——————————–
Although my voice wavered, somehow, I managed to get those words out.
With that, the tension in the air began to dissipate.
…What should I do if she rejects me? Should I use logic to comfort me? Should I reason with my emotions? But then, only truly exceptional people can sway emotions with logic, …that’s not possible by me at all.
If she rejects me, anything I do would just be a futile struggle… I’d have no choice but to give up.
“……Kazari-kun.”
“What is it?”
When I asked back, Katase got out of bed while being wrapped in her blanket —and,
“Katase? What’s wro—”
She left the blanket behind and jumped into my arms.
“Eh, wai—, Ka-Katase-san?”
I was taken aback by the suddenness of her actions.
“………please…. save me.”
Noticing the change in Katase, I ridiculed myself for being so oblivious.
With her face buried in my chest, she was crying. Quietly, while suppressing her voice, weakly —crying.
Her shoulders trembling on my chest, clutching my shirt tightly, she uttered those words, ‘Help me.’
Thinking that I understand her suffering from just that would be just too arrogant. I can’t lightly claim to understand her pain.
But at that moment… even if just a little, maybe I can ease the suffering she was going through… even if it would be, just till giving a small comfort that could eases her mind.
“Yeah. Leave it to me.”
I wrapped my arms around her back hard, hugging her, and reassuring her everything will now be alright.
Doing which, Katase stopped suppressing, and cried herself out.
About the main issue… well, it can wait. We can always talk about that after she calms down.
