Chapter 17: I was inspired by her soft sleeping sounds.
“……………Suu.”
I did decide to stay until Hiiragi would calm down, …but I never expected her to calm down to this degree.
While waiting for her left me with little to do instead, so like any modern person, I turned to my smartphone to kill time. But when I glanced at Hiiragi, the scene that reflected was this.
While still sitting there, softly breathing in her sleep with a “Suu…~ Pii…~”
She must have been really exhausted, but still… to fall asleep here, that too in front of a guy, no less.
Does she really have nerves of steel or is she just oblivious …? Well, maybe being this unguarded around me shows how pointless she feels to be cautious around me instead.
If I were a predator, being called the “Lion of the Night,” she’d be in trouble by now. Not that anyone’s ever called me that, nor will they ever… I mean, what does even “Lion of the Night” mean in the first place? Definitely they making a fun of you.
Now then, what now? Technically, I’ve fulfilled my own requirement to stay here until she calmed down, so I can actually leave, but…
I shifted my eyes from Hiiragi who was sound asleep to the windows, looking outside. The sky was turning a deeper shade of orange minute after minute.
“……………”
This whole mess started because of a rumor, that reached the ears of Tachibana regarding Ryogoku and is now becoming more and more serious as days pass.
Tachibana couldn’t tolerate it, not even a rumour, given she has feelings for Ryogoku herself.
Even if it is a rumour, I won’t forgive her. I can’t forgive her. That twisted feeling transformed into bullying.
Comparing their methods might be unfair, but Hiiragi’s and Tachibana’s method of operandi are completely different.
Hiiragi tried to pair Katase with me and make Ryogoku give up in the end. In short, she aimed to benefit by manipulating someone else’s love interest.
Tachibana, on the other hand, chose to crush Katase. But on doing so, I can’t see how that would make Ryogoku give up on his love. If anything, won’t it backfire instead?
The promise in most stories based on romance. A character like Tachibana acts like the villain who gets in the way of the hero and heroine’s love. Simply put, she serves as a foil/catalyst in that story, an obstacle that the hero and heroine overcame together — in this case, Ryogoku and Katase, whose bond then becomes stronger, as they move toward a happy ending.
The feeling of her being mad in love is undeniable. However, I still don’t think that her actions are aimed at fulfilling her love as well.
As overly idealistic as that sounds, it’s clear Tachibana isn’t acting to achieve her romantic goals. Driven by jealousy and resentment—pure negative emotions. Which makes better sense instead.
If that’s the case, if we could eliminate Tachibana’s jealousy, perhaps the persistent bullying of Katase would come to a stop as well.
“……………”
Whether there are potential methods or not; there are. But none of those can be used with a guarantee… so they can’t exactly be called solutions to this problem. Plus, they’d involve someone becoming a sacrificial pawn, which is far from ideal. If that is not met, it would be hard to extract the jealousy out from Tachibana.
