Chapter 29: Casual Walk 3
“What ’mou~’ ; What do you even mean by that ‘mou’?”
“‘Mou~’ is just ‘mou~.’ Kazari-kun, you’re quite twisted yourself, aren’t you? I can’t even compare to you yet.”
“Well – nope, you just don’t know me that well – to even say that in the first place.”
“Even without knowing you that well, I still feel it, so you must be quite something, don’t you agree?”
Katase quickly retorted. Indeed, just as she said, her way of speaking made it seem like she was quite twisted indeed.
“Well… I won’t deny it, but… Aren’t you changing your character way too much and all of a sudden?”
“What do you mean, by that?”
With a smirk, Katase tilted her head in an obviously ‘I know’ manner. It goes without saying that has exact idea on what I was talking about.
“You seemed so shy and awkward just a moment ago, but now there’s no trace of that. Just which one is the real Katase out of the two?”
“Ah, so that’s what you mean. Hmm, well, which one do you think~?”
Katase put her index finger on her lips, takes on a pose pretending to be genuinely worried. No matter how you look at it, it feels absolutely an act.
“Both are me, I guess? But if I had to choose… the current me is more like the usual me, maybe?”
“In other words, you don’t even understand yourself?”
“That’s right! Which version of me do you prefer, Kazari-kun?”
“Again with that difficult questions… Well, let’s see…”
Not a retort, but rather my habit. Although I already had an answer, I pretended to ponder. A complete opposite of being straightforward, a rather annoying and contrary way of doing things.
Seeing me doing that, Katase smirked.
“’It doesn’t matter which one it is’, will not accepted as an answer, got it?”
Before I could even answer, she nailed it, and since the result of that pretence was already naught, the pretence itself became unnecessary.
…If I were to say that her shy side is better right now, would she quickly switch back?
I wasn’t that curious, but I kind of wanted to try.
“…If I were to say, I guess the shy side.”
“I see.”
Her short response was followed by her face gradually turning red.
“—-Fu~un, being alone together, kind of makes it a little embarrassing, doesn’t it, Kazari-kun.”
In the next moment, the Katase with a twisted personality disappeared, and was replaced by the image I always held of her from before.
The word “Recreation,” floated on the top of my mind. While the shy, awkward, and nervous side did really feel like the Katase I knew, it also seemed somewhat suspicious and an act.
She said both were her, but I felt her more alive and lively when she was in her twisted state.
Well, it doesn’t go past speculation. But probably—Katase, despite her appearances, is quite a mystery.
