Chapter 30: Talking It Over with Estelle (Alicia’s POV)

A few days later. In my room at the Elfemina family mansion.

“Hmm, hmm. So big sis wants to give Setsuna-sama a present, huh?”

“Yeah, that’s right. And I was hoping you could give me some advice or something…”

Today I asked my little sister Estelle to come to my room. I wanted us to think together about what would make a good gift for Setsuna-sama.

“Got it! If that’s the case, I’ll give you tons of advice!”

“Thanks, Estelle. Hearing you say that really helps.”

“No problem at all. I’m always gonna help you out whenever you need it, big sis. So? Right now, do you have any kind of image or idea of what you wanna give him?”

“Um… no, not yet. I haven’t decided anything. Honestly, I’ve been bedridden my whole life up till now, so I’ve never given a guy a gift before… That’s part of why I really need your advice too.”

“I see, yeah, that makes sense. But Setsuna-sama’s such a kind person, y’know? As long as it comes from your heart, I’m pretty sure he’ll be happy with whatever you give him.”

“M-maybe… but still, if I’m gonna do it, I wanna give him something that’ll make him at least a little extra happy… like, y’know…”

When I heard Estelle say that, I fidgeted a tiny bit while answering her.

“Hehe, yeah, I get it. Okay then, lemme share what I’ve learned from experience… Probably the best stuff is everyday items he can use all the time, or accessories he can wear, right? When someone actually keeps using or wearing the thing you gave them every day, it makes the giver super happy.”

“Ohhh, that does sound good. Something he can use daily or wear, huh…”

“Yup, exactly. And since it’s Setsuna-sama, if it’s something too expensive he might feel awkward about it, so you should probably keep the price in mind too. Something not super pricey, but still something he’d actually use regularly—that’d be perfect.”

“Hmm, hmm. Thanks, Estelle. Okay, then I’ll think about something reasonably priced that Setsuna-sama could use every day or really like having around. Um, let’s see…”

I muttered that to myself while picturing what Setsuna-sama’s usually like.

Setsuna-sama never wears any accessories at all. So he probably isn’t into that kind of thing. In that case, something that isn’t jewelry would probably be better.

Also, back when I wore perfume, he reacted kinda fresh to it, so I’m guessing he doesn’t really use stuff like that either.

Besides, since he’s an adventurer, wearing perfume all the time could make monsters notice him and that’d be bad… oh!

(Oh! Right! Setsuna-sama’s an adventurer! So if it’s something he’d use every day, wouldn’t it be adventurer gear?)

The second that hit me, I quickly pictured Setsuna-sama in his adventurer outfit in my head.

I’ve only seen him in adventurer gear once. Back then he had on a leather chest piece, boots, long-sleeved clothes, a one-handed sword for fighting monsters, and a small dagger for gathering stuff hanging at his waist.

And Setsuna-sama told me before—he mostly takes gathering requests as an adventurer. So the thing he uses the most is probably…

(…Yes! Then I’ll give Setsuna-sama a dagger!)

I finally decided what to give him. His main job is adventuring, and the dagger he uses for gathering requests is something he’d carry with him all the time.

Plus, a dagger shouldn’t be crazy expensive, so Setsuna-sama will probably accept it no problem. Now that that’s settled…

“? What’s up, big sis? You suddenly look super lively.”

“Yeah. I just decided on the perfect gift for Setsuna-sama. I’m gonna give him a dagger he can use for adventuring.”

“Ah, gotcha! Yeah, since he’s an adventurer, a dagger’s something he’d have on him every day. That might be spot-on for a present!”

“Hehe, right? But now I gotta find a shop that sells daggers… I’ve been stuck in bed my whole life, so I don’t know any places in the royal capital that sell them…”

“Oh, no worries. I know a weapon shop in the capital. It’s right across from that chiffon cake place we went to.”

“Eh, really? That’s super helpful info! Thanks, Estelle! Oh, and there’s one more thing—I was hoping to ask you… Could you maybe come with me to that shop sometime soon to help me shop? I can’t exactly ask Setsuna-sama to tag along when I’m buying his present, y’know. So I was hoping you could come with me instead. What do you think?”

“Ah, sorry, big sis… That might be kinda tough. Starting tomorrow I’ve got a two-week business trip to the neighboring territory. So accompanying you shopping might be difficult…”

When I asked, Estelle answered looking really apologetic.

“Oh, I see. Okay, got it. Then I’ll just ask one of the attendants to come with me.”

“That’d be great. Sorry about this, big sis…”

“No, it’s fine. Your trip’s more important anyway. Do your best on the business trip, Estelle.”

“Yeah, thanks. And good luck finding a nice dagger for Setsuna-sama, big sis! I’m rooting for you!”

“Hehe, thanks. I’ll do my best!”

So Estelle’s gonna be away on her trip for a while. That means I decided to ask one of the attendants to take me to the weapon shop in the capital sometime soon.

Alright then, maybe I should talk to Sils about it tomorrow and get things moving.
