Chapter 31: New Bride
“Kei-chan, thanks for your hard work today.”
“Ah, thank you, Miko-san.”
“We’re having curry for dinner tonight.”
“I see. I’m looking forward to it.”
For some reason, I’m playing house with Miko-san, Miaki-san’s younger sister, at their home.
“Dear, please sit in the living room.”
“Okay.”
I’m a student with midterm exams coming up. It was Amatsuka-san who asked me to help her study, but here I am, playing house with Miko-san.
In this little game, Miko-san plays the role of the new bride, and I’m the husband.
Meanwhile, in Miaki-san’s room, four beautiful girls—Miaki-san, Amatsuka-san, Kurose-san, and Momohara—are quietly studying. (It’s okay to call Momohara cute instead.)
“Dear, please enjoy your meal.”
With a smile, the little new bride hands me a toy set of what looks like curry, and I pretend to eat it with a smile.

Tests.
They’re a regular event that most students frown upon.
“What should I do, Motobu-kun? I’ve only been making sweets and haven’t studied at all.”
“Let’s study, Momohara-kun.”
Even during the Golden Week, we were studying for the midterms in mid-May. Despite going on a picnic with Amatsuka-san and teaching Miaki-san how to cook, I still had to manage my time well, balancing housework and looking after my cousins and sister while studying. The path of a househusband is a long and tough one.
“Motobu-kun, will you study for the test with me?”
“Sure.”
Momohara teaches me how to make sweets, so I should return the favor by helping her study.
“M-master… please teach me too…”
“Amatsuka-san, are you struggling too?”
“Yes, yes, yes!”
“Motobu, can you study? Teach me too.”
“Miaki-san, you too?”
“I’ve been working part-time a lot, so I’m in trouble.”
Before I knew it, I had three people asking me for help. But Momohara aside, don’t Amatsuka-san and Miaki-san have lots of friends? Surely, they must have at least one friend who’s good at studying?
Well, it’s still the first test since we started high school, so we don’t really know who the top students are in our class yet. There are a few who seem smart during class, but it’s not something everyone knows.
“How about we study at my place today?”
“Now that I think about it, we haven’t been to Miaki-chan’s house these past few days. I can see Miko-chan!”
The study session plans are moving forward without me and Momohara… With the two top girls in our class now joining, Momohara is in a panic. Sorry, Momohara, but I won’t let you escape. After all, you’re good at science.
Besides, I’d feel awkward being the only guy at the study session. So, you’re coming with me.
“Amatsuka-san, Miaki-san, may I join the study session too?”
Kurose-san appears in front of the excited Amatsuka-san and Miaki-san, calmly asking to join. Kurose-san, who seems like she’d be good at studying, joining the session?
From what I’ve seen, Kurose-san is among the top students in our class. I don’t think she needs to join a study session to score well…
“Kurose-san seems good at studying, so why not? What do you think, Motobu-kun?”
“As the class vice president, I thought it would be nice to get to know everyone better.”
It’s as if she read my mind—Kurose-san gently adds an explanation.
Well, with Amatsuka-san as the class president and me as the secretary, perhaps this is a chance to bond over our shared roles.
She usually has an aura that keeps people at a distance, but maybe she’s looking for some kind of connection.
“Please join us, Kurose-san.”
“Thank you. I look forward to it.”
As Kurose-san lowered her head slightly, I felt something again, just a little.

Chapter 32: Marriage…Marriage…Marriage…
“Excuse meee!”
“Excuse me.”
“E-excuse me…”
“I’m home~”
“Welcome back, Kuma-chan!”
We all entered Miaki’s house together.
“Amatsuka-chan!”
“Miko-chan!”
Amatsuka-san hugged the little girl. It’s such a heartwarming scene. If everyone saw this, maybe they’d stop fighting.
“Kei-chan!”
Miko-san spotted me and rushed over. At that moment, I didn’t miss the sad expression on Amatsuka-san’s face.
“Kei-chan! I love you!”
“Ahaha… Thank you.”
Miko-san rubbed her face against my stomach as she ran up to me. I raised both hands as if I was surrendering to a gun, silently pleading for help.
“Are you turning yourself in?”
“…No, but please help me.”
“…So, Sensei prefers younger girls, huh…”
“No, Amatsuka-san, that’s not true at all.”
Please don’t make that sad face as if you misunderstood me to be a criminal. I’m not a lolicon. Really, I’m not.
“Kei-chan, do you dislike me?”
“No, that’s not it at all.”
I’m cornered. My classmates are giving me cold looks, and the little girl’s eyes are welling up with tears. No matter how I answer, it’s a trap. Unfortunately, I don’t have the communication skills to dodge the direct questions of a little girl.
“S-speaking of which, Momohara-kun brought cookies, right? How about we all eat them before we start studying?”
Momohara’s house was relatively close to the Miaki’s, so we stopped by before coming here. I feel bad for relying on Momohara’s cookies at a time like this, but it’s better than having a classmate get arrested… right?
“I brought some tea, so let’s enjoy them with Momohara-san’s cookies.”
“Kurose-san, you’re a lifesaver!”
Amatsuka-san smiled again, probably because she could have tea and cookies. So, we all settled down in Miaki-san’s room. I almost got myself in trouble…
After that, we all enjoyed the cookies, with Miaki-san even feeding Miko-san, creating a heartwarming scene.
“Shall we start studying soon?”
“Yes, that’s the main purpose of today.”
“Miko, go play in your room. We need to study now.”
“…Okay.”
Miko-san left the room, looking dejected. It hurt a little. She probably thought she could play with everyone, only to be left out.
I’m used to being alone, but it’s tough for a first-grader like Miko-san.
“Motobu-kun, can you help me with this? I don’t really understand this part…”
“You can solve it using this formula.”
“Motobu-kun! I don’t get this part either. What should I do?”
“Ugh… I can’t do math. I’m going to die.”
“Miaki-san, you just made a mistake in the calculation here. Let’s fix it and keep going.”
Amatsuka-san, Miaki-san, and Momohara were all struggling with math. Fortunately, I’m pretty good at it, so Kurose-san and I started teaching the three of them.
Kurose-san is really good at studying. Her explanations are precise and easy to understand. Her long black hair isn’t just for show.
“…Zzz…”
I could feel someone staring at me from behind. It wasn’t a creepy feeling, just a pressure of wanting attention.
“…My future husband isn’t paying attention to me…”
“Motobu-kun, did you promise to marry her? Hmm?”
“No, nothing like that…”
What is this? Amatsuka-san’s eyes look vacant and it’s scary… But I’m not a criminal. I swear I didn’t do anything.
“Miaki-san. Your little sister is Motobu-san’s fiancée, right?”
“No, she isn’t.”
If I asked Miaki-san for her sister’s hand, he’d probably tell me to cut off a finger or something… Scary.
“M-Miko-chan. I think it’s better to marry someone closer to your age.”
“No, I want Kei-chan.”
Miko-san pouted. Kurose-san approached her and spoke gently.
“Miko-san. By the time you’re all grown up, Motobu-san will be an old man. Can you still love him then? He might become a violent person or gain a lot of weight, not working, and making you do all the work.”
Um, Kurose-san… Could you please not talk about such a terrible future for me? I at least plan to become a respectable stay-at-home husband.
“Y-yeah, Miko-chan. Marriage is difficult. It’s better to make friends with your classmates now.”
Nice save, Amatsuka-san.
…Hey, Momohara, don’t whisper “Motobu-kun, you’re popular” in my ear. It made my heart skip a beat.
“Then, I’ll simulate it!”
Miko-san pulled me away, and we ended up playing house.
E-everyone… Don’t just watch, please help me…
