Chapter 20: I Reincarnated as a Villain, So Let’s Play It Safe (Not Really)
The moment I stepped into the classroom… all eyes were on me, and the room fell silent.
Oh… this was awkward.
I could definitely feel the pressure.
But now wasn’t the time to shrink away.
As a villain, I have plenty of doom flags hanging over me.
School was the classic setting for stories like this, filled with countless hidden pitfalls waiting to trigger.
If I wanted to break those doom flags, I couldn’t just sit around doing nothing—I had to take action.
“Hazumi-kun… actually came to school again today!”
“Good thing we didn’t talk to him yesterday, right?”
“Yeah. I heard someone from the class next door already got called in for student counseling…”
“Hmm, today’s schedule is from 8:40 AM to 3:25 PM. And there’s always the chance of some after-school activities… At this point, it’s practically like living together.”
As I snapped back to reality, the classroom was already buzzing with chatter.
I couldn’t make out everything they were saying… but considering the way they kept sneaking glances at me, it was obviously about me.
Well, being one of the very few guys in this school, it was bound to happen.
But if this continues every day… even I might start feeling a little uncomfortable.
“Mom, if you want people to be kind to you, you should be kind to them first.”
I had told my mom the same thing—if I wanted to feel more comfortable here, I needed to take the initiative myself.
That said, I had to be careful not to overdo it.
So… let’s play it safe.
“Good morning, everyone.”
I greeted the class in the most neutral way possible.
Yeah, this should be fine, right?
“Eh? Did Hazumi-kun just say good morning to me?”
“I-Idiot! Obviously, he meant me!”
“Mm… our eyes met. My heart skipped a beat. He must be my destined one.”
Even though the girls were still stealing glances at me, none of them actually responded to my greeting or tried to talk to me.
Some of them even looked so surprised that their mouths were hanging open.
Come to think of it, Ms. Sato had the same reaction yesterday…
“U-Um, Reito-san…”
Nako spoke to me quietly, sounding a bit concerned.
She was probably trying to comfort me because no one responded to my greeting.
Nako really is kind.
“Don’t worry, Nako. I’m fine.”
“I-I see… If you say so, Reito-san…”
Nako looked like she wanted to say something, her lips moving slightly… but in the end, she closed her mouth.
I needed to make sure I didn’t act in a way that would make her worry too much.
Taking my seat at the very back of the classroom, I glanced around.
Once again… it was all girls.
The room was filled with cute girls as far as the eye could see.
It kind of felt like I had turned invisible and sneaked into an all-girls school.
Just looking around like this was definitely a feast for the eyes.
Ms. Oniki mentioned yesterday that there were 30 students in Class E.
Nothing strange about that.
But during yesterday’s introductions, something caught my attention.
And now that I looked around the room again… yeah, something was definitely off.
“Alright, everyone, take your seats—oh, you’re already seated. Good. Now, all eyes on me.”
While I was lost in thought, Ms. Oniki walked into the classroom in her signature red tracksuit.
At the sound of her voice, the lively atmosphere quickly settled down, and everyone turned their attention to the front.
With that, the morning homeroom session began.
“Alright, today’s your second day of school. No one in this class was late, and everyone’s here. I’ll give you credit for that.”
Ms. Oniki said with a small smirk.
Turns out she’s not just a strict teacher—she actually acknowledges even the small things. Nice!
“The morning schedule includes physical measurements and orientation. In the afternoon, regular classes will begin. So, lose that carefree attitude already, got it?”
Hmm, sounds familiar.
Yesterday, I even asked Kyoko about it, and it turns out Sotei Academy’s school events are pretty much the same as my old high school in my past life.
That means I probably don’t need to be too cautious about school events or activities.
“Alright, first period is physical measurements. Everyone, change into your gym clothes here in the classroom—quickly. Oh, and Hazumi, since you’re the only boy here, you’ll be joining the other male students from different classes. I’ll take you there, so grab your gym clothes and follow me.”
Hearing my name, I nodded in understanding.
With so few guys in this school, it made sense that they’d have us gather together for stuff like this.
But… there was something more important on my mind.
“That’s all from me. Any questions?”
Ms. Oniki scanned the classroom.
Usually, nobody asks anything in situations like this…
But I had something that was really bothering me, so I slowly raised my hand.
“Oh? What is it, Hazumi? Something bothering you?”
“Not really bothering me, but I do have a question.”
“Alright, go ahead.”
Not just Ms. Oniki, but the entire class was now focused on me.
To be honest, I was pretty sure everyone in the class was wondering the same thing.
That’s why, as the only guy here… I’d ask on their behalf.
“Am I the only guy in Class E…?”
“…”
“Oniki-sensei?”
“…Ah, yeah. That’s right.”
Huh? Did she just pause awkwardly before answering?
But still, it seemed like it was true—I was the only male student in Class E.
…Wait, what!? I’m the only guy!?
I had a feeling something was off yesterday during introductions when I thought, Huh? Where are the other boys?
But seriously… I’m really the only one!?
No way—aren’t there other classes with at least one more guy?
My mind was spinning in confusion, but I couldn’t let it show.
Taking a deep breath, I asked as calmly as possible.
“Why am I the only one?”
“Well, that’s…”
“That’s…?”
“U-Um… after a very thorough discussion, of course!”
“A very thorough discussion…”
“Y-Yes, exactly.”
“…”
Hmm, that makes it even more suspicious!?
So you’re telling me that after some big official discussion, they decided Class E should have exactly one guy… and it just so happens to be me, Reito Hazumi? How does that even make sense?!
“A-Anyway! First period is about to start, so that’s it for homeroom! Girls, get changed here. Hazumi, you’re coming with me!”
Ms. Oniki hurriedly wrapped things up and dashed out of the classroom.
No, seriously… that was basically running away!
Something’s definitely not right!
Why am I the only guy in class…? Is this one of those classic villain reincarnation tropes!?
