Chapter 19: I’m a Villain, But Sometimes I Fight Back (That’s Not It)
“—sama…? Please wake up. Reito-sama…? Your breakfast is getting cold…”
Mmm… I could hear a soft whisper near my ear…
Was someone trying to wake me up…? Or was this just a dream…?
Oh well, it felt nice, so I’ll just stay like this a little longer… zzzz…
“Nako, why are you whispering in his ear?”
“Uh… I thought if I suddenly spoke too loudly, Reito-sama might get startled…”
“You’re so kind, Nako. But you’re not here to tuck him in—you’re here to wake him up, right?”
“Well, yeah…”
“Sigh… Honestly, maybe being a personal maid is too soon for you?”
“Mmm, that’s not true! I’ll get better at it!”
“I see. Then, to help you learn, I’ll show you how it’s done today. Young Master, please wake up.”
“…zzz…“
“Young Master, wake up. If you don’t, I might have to… deal with your lower half… or maybe I should just go ahead and do it.”
“W-Wait, what are you planning to do?!”
Hearing those ominous words, I jolted upright in an instant.
“Good morning, Young Master. Today is your second day of school.”
“Ah… yeah… good morning…”
Somehow, I ended up speaking more formally than usual.
Standing in front of me was Kyoko, with her usual composed and dignified expression.
And beside her…
I glanced to the side—and my eyes widened in surprise.
Because…
“G-Good morning, Reito-sama!”
Nako greeted me in a slightly nervous voice, bowing her head.
And the outfit she was wearing… was a maid uniform.
A long black-and-white dress that perfectly suited her—not just as a costume, but as a real maid.
She looked amazing.
I knew that starting today, Nako would be taking over as my personal maid in place of Kyoko.
But… I hadn’t imagined seeing her in an actual maid uniform.
Like the other maids, her outfit was modest, covering most of her skin.
But honestly… that’s what made it even better!
Having a beautiful classmate dressed as a maid and serving as my personal maid at the mansion—well, what guy wouldn’t find that exciting?
Of course, as a villain, I probably shouldn’t be getting too carried away with this.
Still, considering the original Reito’s track record of harassment… it was surprising that he hadn’t forced them into skimpy, revealing maid outfits with short skirts or low-cut tops.
I had always wondered about that.
Then again, if the uniforms were too revealing, they wouldn’t really be maid outfits anymore.
Maybe the original Reito actually had a certain level of respect for proper maid attire.
“Um, Reito-sama.”
“Hm?”
While I was lost in thought, Nako, who had been standing beside Kyoko, took a step forward and looked straight at me.
“I’d like to formally thank you for making me your personal maid. Starting today, I’ll do my best to fulfill my duties as your exclusive maid. P-Please take care of me!”
“Yeah, same here. But… you remember what I told you, right?”
“Y-Yes! I won’t overdo it!”
Hearing her firm response, both Kyoko and I seemed to breathe a small sigh of relief.
Still, knowing Nako, she might end up pushing herself too hard without realizing it.
“Kyoko, I’m counting on you too.”
“Yes.”
As the head maid—and as a sort of big sister figure to make sure Nako doesn’t overwork herself.
It seemed like she understood my intentions, as Kyoko gave a firm nod.
After that, I had breakfast, changed into my uniform, and got into the sleek black car waiting outside.
Apparently, my mom had instructed the maids to drive me to and from school.
She was as overprotective as ever.
The car stopped in a quiet, empty alleyway just before reaching Sotei Academy.
Once we made sure no one was around, Nako and I stepped out of the car.
“Was it really okay for me to ride in the car with you?”
Nako asked hesitantly.
Even though we left from the same mansion, she was planning to walk to school alone—until I suggested taking the car together.
“Of course.”
“Ah, thank you, Reito-sama… No, I mean Reito-san from now on.”
“Yeah. I’m counting on you, Nako.”
“Yes!”
Seeing Nako nod with a serious expression, I steeled myself as well.
You never know where a doom flag might be hiding in school life!
We passed through the school gate and walked across the spacious grounds.
Yesterday, I had been surrounded by my mom, all the maids, and the female bodyguards, so I hadn’t been able to relax or even take in my surroundings properly.
I barely noticed anything around me.
Now, I could finally appreciate the cherry blossoms blooming on both sides of the pathway.
As the wind blew, the petals gently danced through the air.
Ah… this really feels like the start of my school life.
“Wow, it’s so beautiful…”
I glanced at Nako, who was looking at the cherry blossoms with a bright smile on her face.
Yeah, yeah, she definitely looks better like this compared to the stiff expression she had when we first met.
“…”
“……”
Nako and I walked side by side in silence, neither of us starting a conversation.
The reason was simple—while Nako was my support, our relationship at school was supposed to be that of strangers.
If we suddenly started chatting too much, it might make people suspicious of our connection, so I decided to keep conversation to a minimum.
Even though we were walking together, we maintained a reasonable distance.
We weren’t doing anything unusual… yet I could feel the stares of many female students on us.
“So a boy really did enroll here…”
“For the first time, I feel like coming to this school was worth it~”
“He’s actually kinda cute…”
Yeah… they were definitely staring.
Even when we reached the school entrance, the place was still packed with girls.
“I think he’s totally my type~”
“The girl next to him… is she the rumored support?”
“She’s super cute too, though…”
“We shouldn’t rush things… Let’s wait for the right moment to talk to him.”
There were even more eyes on me than yesterday… probably because the upperclassmen were here now.
Since the second- and third-year classes had no boys, it made sense that I would attract attention.
Being a former all-girls school, having so few guys around was inevitable…
But still, having this many eyes on me just for walking was… yeah, I could see how being a guy here might feel a little overwhelming.
However, now wasn’t the time to feel overwhelmed.
Even with all these eyes on me, I had to stay composed… no, more than that—I needed to act like I had everything under control.
“Heh.”
I flashed a small smile at one of the girls who made eye contact with me.
“Eh…?”
“No way…”
“Did he just… smile at me?”
The girls standing there all reacted with wide eyes and slightly open mouths—staring in complete shock.
I guess they didn’t expect one of the few guys in this entire school to actually do something like that.
Even though I’m supposed to be the villain, sometimes it doesn’t hurt to push back a little.
“Um… Reito-sama.”
“Hm?”
Oh, Nako slipped back into calling me Reito-sama.
Should I remind her about that?
“Reito-sama… um, please don’t push yourself too hard, okay?”
“Huh?”
I tilted my head in confusion at Nako’s unexpected words.
