Chapter 17: I’m a Villain, But I Survived the First Day (Not Really)
“Starting tomorrow, you’ll have a full schedule with six periods, so don’t forget your textbooks for the afternoon. Also, if you don’t head straight home today… just think about what might happen to your grades. Alright, later!”
With a lazy wave, Ms. Oniki left the classroom.
A sense of relief filled the air.
Since today was just the entrance ceremony, classes ended in the morning.
With Ms. Oniki’s friendly warning and the thought of tomorrow’s full schedule, everyone started packing up to leave.
Well, I get it—she probably just doesn’t want anyone getting too carried away on the first day and causing trouble.
Plus, considering how much she hates dealing with unnecessary hassle, she’s just being cautious.
As for me, I can’t afford to mess up on the very first day, given my “villain” status.
Judging by the atmosphere in the class, it seemed like everyone understood what she meant too.
But… something felt off.
It was like their eyes were wandering nervously.
“Hey, I really wanna go talk to him…”
“No way! If we do, Ms. Oniki will definitely scold us later.”
“He looks kinda relaxed, but he is a guy after all… If we all rush him at once and freak him out…”
“What if he gets so scared he never comes to school again?”
“Yeah, let’s just be happy we got to see him and breathe the same air for today.”
Some of the girls kept sneaking glances at me, and whenever our eyes met, they quickly looked away in a panic.
Well… that’s pretty typical for the first day!
I stuffed the handouts and my stationery into my bag—ready to go home!
I glanced to my side… Nako was busy fiddling with her phone.
She was probably messaging Kyoko or Maki-san.
But now that I really took a good look at her… Nako was seriously beautiful.
Her soft, ash-blonde hair, those gentle yet striking eyes, and even while sitting, her figure was clearly well-proportioned.
She had an aura that naturally drew attention—more than enough to be the main heroine.
And yet… I was the villain.
In novels, manga, or games, characters like us usually end up on opposing sides.
But in reality, I was her young master, and she was my personal maid.
Of course, our relationship was a secret at school.
If people found out, there’s a chance I’d end up with more enemies than I could handle.
That’s why I made sure not to act in a way that might make people suspicious of us being close.
Besides, Nako would probably head home with Kyoko and Maki-san today.
I shouldn’t intrude on their family time.
Even so… I didn’t head home right away.
I was stuck debating something.
Nako had mentioned in her introduction that she was my support, but leaving without saying anything… felt a bit off.
“Nako.”
“Eh? Ah, yes!”
When I called out to her, Nako looked up in surprise.
Yeah, sorry for startling you.
But since Nako was going to be my support at school, I felt like I should at least say something to her.
“Looking forward to tomorrow, Nako. I’m counting on you.”
“Y-Yes, Reito-san. I’ll be counting on you too.”
Nice, Nako handled that smoothly.
Something this casual shouldn’t raise any suspicions, right?
With nothing more to say, I left the classroom.
For a first day, I’d say things went pretty well.
I survived—
“Rei-kun, welcome back!”
As I walked across the school grounds, a voice suddenly called out from the side.
“I’m so glad you’re safe, Rei-kun! They didn’t do anything to you, right? You’re not hurt? You’d rather be with your mama than those girls in class, right? How about taking the day off tomorrow and skipping school?”
With a lively voice and bouncing… assets, my mom came running toward me.
Here she was again—my overprotective villain mom making her grand reappearance.
And just like this morning, she spoke as if I had just returned from a battlefield.
Thinking about it… maybe the reason the original Reito turned into such a spoiled brat was because Mom pampered him way too much.
Standing next to her were more than a dozen maids and two women in black suits—our ever-present bodyguards.
Yep, it was the same scene as this morning.
Ah… right.
If a trip isn’t over until you get home, then I guess school life isn’t over until I actually make it back either.
In other words… I was going to stand out. Again.
“Rei-kun, let’s go home~♪”
“Reito-sama, please rest assured.”
“We’ll make sure you get home safely.”
Yeah… so much for sneaking home alone.
“A-Ah… I’ll be in your care.”
I was a villain who knew how to adapt.
Alright! Time to gear up and do my best again tomorrow!

(Nako’s Perspective)
After Reito-sama left, the girls in the class also started leaving one by one.
But as they walked out… I couldn’t help but notice quite a few of them sneaking glances my way.
It’s probably because I’m Reito-sama’s support.
Yeah… it makes sense that everyone would be curious about him.
Unlike regular boys, he neither cowers around girls nor treats them coldly.
On the contrary, even in a room full of girls, he casually says things without realizing their impact, all while flashing that soft smile…
And, Reito-sama is the only—
“Nako! Are you okay?!”
Before I could finish my thought, someone rushed over to me.
It was my best friend from middle school.
With her short, dark hair tinged with a bluish hue, sharp features, tall frame, and healthy, tanned skin—
Nagisa Inose.
Nagisa stood in front of me, looking unusually serious as she leaned in closer.
“Uh… what’s wrong, Nagisa-chan?”
“What’s wrong you ask? You just talked to a boy!”
“Ah, well… yeah, I did.”
“‘Yeah, I did’?! You’re bad with men, remember? Are your hands all sweaty by now?”
Nagisa’s loud voice made me instinctively glance around the classroom.
Fortunately, it was just the two of us left.
With Reito-sama gone and Ms. Oniki’s warning still fresh in their minds, everyone must have decided to head home quickly today.
Nagisa, however, had clearly been waiting for the right moment to talk to me.
“Wait… huh? You’re not even sweating?”
Before I realized it, Nagisa had taken my hand.
She gently pressed and examined it, tilting her head in confusion.
“But your hand feels kind of warm.”
“U-Um… maybe it’s because it was a bit cold today, and I was holding a hand warmer!”
I quickly came up with an excuse.
It was a lie.
Sure, today was a little chilly… but I hadn’t brought any hand warmers.
Still, I knew exactly why my hands felt warm.
“Looking forward to tomorrow, Nako.”
Just hearing those words from Reito-sama had left a warm feeling deep in my chest.
“Hmm… well, whatever. But what’s the deal with him calling you by your first name?!”
Nagisa continued her interrogation.
Of course, she would be curious.
To us girls, Reito-sama’s actions today… weren’t exactly normal.
In fact, they were something we rarely—if ever—got to witness.
“The first-name thing… I think it’s just Reito-san being random, you know? H-He even told me to call him by his first name too.”
Of course, the way we address each other was part of Reito-sama’s plan.
“Oh really? Just a whim, huh? And another thing—why would you, someone who’s bad with men, take on the role of being his support? Doesn’t that seem kinda weird?”
Nagisa frowned, and I struggled to come up with a good excuse…
But before I could say anything—
“Ah, sorry for bombarding you with all these questions! I mean, Oniki-sensei gave that warning to stop stuff like this from happening, and here I am doing it myself. Anyway, I’m just glad nothing happened to you today. But listen, if anything comes up from tomorrow onward, you better tell me right away, okay? I’ll come running!”
Nagisa flashed a shy smile, and I nodded.
“Thanks.”
Honestly, I was grateful.
Being Reito-sama’s support…
On the surface, it seemed like my job was to help him have an easier school life.
But in reality, I could already tell I’d end up acting as the bridge between him and the other girls in class.
Because deep down, everyone wanted to talk to him.
They wanted to get closer to him.
And, if possible… they wanted to become someone special to him.
Even I…
“Alright, let’s walk to the shoe lockers together, Nako.”
“Yeah, let’s go, Nagisa-chan.”
Talking with Nagisa was just as fun in high school as it had always been.
But lately, no matter what I was doing…
A part of my mind was always occupied by—
“Nako… don’t push yourself too hard, okay?”
Reito-sama’s face kept popping into my head.
