Chapter 12: A Normal School Life Might Be Impossible? (◎)
The next morning.
I woke up before my alarm even had the chance to ring.
After a quick stretching routine to fully wake up, both my mind and body felt sharp and ready to go.
Why am I so pumped up, you ask?
The answer’s simple—today is the entrance ceremony for Sotei Academy, where I’ll be attending.
Finally, my school life as a reincarnated villain is about to begin.
Since this world seems to be set in a modern rom-com, I doubt the school system or events will be too different from what I was used to in my previous life.
Having something familiar definitely helps put my mind at ease.
After changing into my uniform, I stood in front of the full-length mirror and adjusted my hair. Today, I even decided to try a bit of hair wax.
Sure, I’m the villain, but at least I can aim for a “refreshing, clean-cut guy” vibe and leave a better first impression.
“Hair’s looking good! That’s everything done. Now… just need to wait for Mom. I guess Kyoko’s busy taking care of Nako right about now.”
Kyoko, who usually takes care of everything for me, isn’t here this morning. She took the day off to be with Nako during her entrance ceremony.
Actually, I was the one who suggested she do that in advance.
If I remember correctly, our conversation went something like this…
“Until the day of the entrance ceremony, you’re still my personal maid… but on that day, you don’t have to take care of me. Without hesitation, go be with Nako—your sister. You’ve been working hard for her all this time, right? Then there’s nothing more important than seeing her with your own eyes at the entrance ceremony.”
“Young Master… are you sure?”
“Of course. Besides, prioritizing your family is also an important part of your duties.”
That’s how I pushed her to do it.
Kyoko is incredibly dedicated to her work. From what I’ve heard, she was personally appointed as the head maid by Reito’s mother herself.
That must be why she feels such a strong sense of responsibility.
Even though she doesn’t like me, she’s still working here without quitting.
But on the flip side… that same dedication makes her hesitant when it comes to anything outside of work.
Especially when it comes to spending time with her family.
And honestly, it might be partly because of the original Reito. He caused so much trouble for everyone around him, which probably forced Kyoko into a situation where she had to constantly step in.
That’s exactly why I needed to say something—to give her a little push, even if it meant being forceful, so she’d prioritize Nako.
There’s nothing more important than attending an entrance ceremony!
Normally, if Kyoko wasn’t around, another maid would be assigned to take care of me and handle my transportation.
But, like I’ve said many times… today is the entrance ceremony.
Even Reito’s usually busy mother is making time to be here today.
Speaking of which…
“Rei-kun! Mama will definitely come to your entrance ceremony! Even if it means the company goes under, our business partners cut ties, or the whole economy crashes—I’m coming!”
That’s what she told me over the phone yesterday.
No, no, all of that is a huge problem!
But I guess it just shows how much she cares about me.
“I really need to start being a better son from now on.”
The original Reito apparently treated her pretty coldly.
I mean, she burst into tears just because I called her ‘Mom’ once.
Seriously, how awful must he have been to his own mother?
It’s fine if she cries out of happiness, but today’s the entrance ceremony. I wonder if she’s going to cry again…
Actually, she might start crying the moment she sees me in my uniform.
I should probably bring a couple of extra handkerchiefs, just in case.
“Before the ceremony, I should take some time to properly talk with Mom. I need to do my part as her son too.”
…That’s what I was thinking just a few hours ago, feeling all calm and content.
“Mom? I just want to ask… what exactly is going on here?”
Walking across the vast grounds of Sotei Academy, I came to a halt and turned to ask my mother.
I mean, I had to ask.
Because… because…
It wasn’t just me and Mom. Behind us, a dozen of the mansion’s maids—aside from Kyoko and Nako—were all following us in perfect formation.
And that wasn’t all…
“Clear. No hazardous items found in the hallway.”
“No issues with the surroundings or the students here either.”
Leading the group were two tall women in sharp suits and sunglasses, looking every bit like professional bodyguards as they carefully scanned the area.
I stood out like a sore thumb.
No, actually, it would be more accurate to say I was blatantly drawing attention.
“I’ve been called ‘Mom’ seven times today already. Kyaaah!”
“Look, I’m going to keep saying it, so can you please not react like that every time? And stop writing it down in your memo pad! Just listen to what I’m saying first?”
“Is this a proposal?”
“No, it’s not! Please, just listen to me, Mom.”
Wait, was Reito’s mom always like this?
Ugh, I’m getting sidetracked now too.
“Why are there so many people following us? Did you really have to bring all the maids? When did you even hire those bodyguard-looking women? I thought the entrance ceremony was supposed to be just you and me?”
I couldn’t help but fire off a series of questions.
“I get that you might feel overwhelmed being surrounded by so many women, but today is your once-in-a-lifetime entrance ceremony, right? So, of course, I need to make sure everything goes perfectly!”
Mom was smiling like this was completely normal, but… this was way beyond “support.”
This felt more like a parade or a royal procession!
Thinking back, I did get a sense of her being a bit overprotective the first time I met Reito’s mom.
I mean, it’s not like a villain’s mother would be normal in the first place.
“Wow, it’s true! There’s actually a male student at Sotei Academy this year!”
“He’s so well-dressed and handsome—unlike most guys.”
“Oh my, there’s a fine young man here~.”
“Maybe it’s time to add a little brother to the family…”
“I’d be fine skipping straight to grandkids…”
The stares from other new students and their parents weren’t just uncomfortable—they were painful.
I could hear them whispering while pointing at me.
With this many eyes on me, I didn’t even want to imagine what they were saying.
I just hoped… it wasn’t anything too bad!
“Mom… are we really going to stay like this all the way to the hall?”
“Of course, sweetie~.”
Of course…? What does that even mean anymore?
“I just want to attend the entrance ceremony like a normal student…”
“No way! Rei-kun, you’re too handsome to go anywhere without protection. You’d be targeted in no time!”
Wait… what do you mean by “targeted”?
Are there really that many people who don’t like me?
But… at least one thing has become crystal clear.
And that’s my school life from today onward.
There’s no way it’s going to be peaceful, quiet, or low-profile… let alone normal.
As we got closer to the gymnasium, where the entrance ceremony was being held, more and more students started showing up.
“Ah! He looked this way!”
“Idiot, he was obviously looking at me.”
To my right—girls.
“He totally looked at me just now! This must be fate, right?”
“Mm, he’s my prince.”
To my left—also girls.
And ahead… and behind… girls everywhere.
Uh… is it just me, or is the female-to-male ratio seriously out of balance here?
Finally figure it out?
Its actually painful hiw he hasnt figured out the entire time since reincarnating hes seen1 male
to be fair, besides the brief trip outside which also just happened right before this, he’s been in the mansion the whole time and there are other reasons there could only be women working at the mansion as he assumed.
No, this main character is dumb to the point you can’t even suspension of disbelief his situation. You mean to tell me since he became conscious in that body he has not once tried to find out anything about that world’s history? I know its a supposed to be a running gag but it wore out its welcome chapters ago, and has just become grating.
