Act 2: A School Life with a Clearly Broken Gender Ratio
Chapter 11: The True Story of a Villain Begins (No Way)
Kyoko continued as the head maid, while Nako became my new personal maid.
It seemed like the Nijou family had a bit of trouble accepting this arrangement during their family meeting.
The next day, their mother, Maki Nijou, paid a visit to the mansion.
She was a beautiful woman, with a small mole just below her lip. Her elegant features had clearly been passed down to both Kyoko and Nako.
The Nijou family was undeniably a family of beauties.
Still, I hadn’t expected their mother to show up in person.
Maki-san was probably here to object to her two daughters serving me, Reito Hazumi, as maids.
As their mother, she likely knew full well how much her daughters disliked me. And with that in mind, it was only natural for her to be worried about them working under someone they couldn’t stand.
But as far as I was concerned, I needed Kyoko and Nako by my side as maids.
After all, these two were bound to be key figures in this world.
They might even be heroines.
If I let her take the lead, this would likely turn into a long, drawn-out confrontation.
And depending on how it played out, it could even tie into one of my doom flags.
So, I decided to act first.
When Maki-san was escorted to the spacious living room by one of the maids and seated in a chair, I made my move.
“Please, entrust the two of them to me. I promise I won’t let them suffer. I’ll make them happy! I beg you!”
“!!”
I stood up and bowed deeply.
Sometimes, the best strategy is to keep it simple.
Show sincerity.
That said, being one-on-one with her like this had me more nervous than I expected.
I couldn’t even remember exactly what I’d just said, but… it should be fine! I didn’t say anything weird… right?
“…Reito-sama, please, lift your head.”
A gentle voice reached my ears, and I raised my head.
Maki-san took a moment before speaking again.
“Kyoko and Nako are my precious daughters. Please… please take care of them for the rest of their lives!”
This time, it was Maki-san who stood up and bowed deeply.
When she raised her head, I noticed tears welling up in the corners of her eyes.
Well, of course, sending her daughters to work for someone they disliked would bring tears to any mother’s eyes.
Still, I got her approval! She can’t take back what she said now!
Although… what did she mean by “the rest of their lives”? Is she really okay with leaving her daughters with me for such a long time?
Well, regardless, it’s official now—both Kyoko and Nako are my maids, with their mother’s blessing.
Time passed, and spring arrived.
The day before my enrollment at Sotei Academy, just past noon…
“Ohh… Sotei Academy’s uniform looks pretty cool.”
I slipped into the freshly delivered uniform, stood in front of the full-length mirror, and couldn’t help but smile.
The black blazer had a crown-shaped emblem on the chest, paired with a striped tie and blue checkered slacks.
It wasn’t too different from the high school uniforms in my previous life in terms of design, but the feel of it was on another level.
The fabric was soft yet perfectly tailored to fit my body. Was it made from some kind of high-end material?
Sotei Academy must be a pretty prestigious school.
But anyway…
“I look good in this.”
The boy in the mirror had sleek, center-parted black hair, a healthy physique, and stood tall with a confident posture.
Even though my favorability efforts hadn’t made much progress, I’d stuck with floor scrubbing and light workouts in the training room.
Thanks to that, I’d gained some muscle, started going to bed early and waking up early, and even got rid of the dark circles under my eyes.
I’d successfully avoided the stereotypical villain route of becoming an unhealthy slob!
Looking at my reflection, I nodded to myself, feeling like I’d grown a little.
This body, which once felt unfamiliar, now felt like my own.
Because I’d decided—I would live as Reito Hazumi.
…Even if I was a villain loaded with doom flags.
Still, I really wish I could figure out what kind of world this is and what the main scenario is supposed to be.
But no matter how much I try, I can’t seem to recall anything.
It’s strange, isn’t it? I’m sure I’ve been reincarnated as a villain…
Well, I’ll just trust that it’ll come back to me eventually!
“Speaking of which, I haven’t decided how I’m going to act at the academy.”
Raising Kyoko’s favorability is my top priority, but now that I’ll be attending school, how I behave there will be just as important.
For starters, I’ll have to avoid any paths leading to a doom flag… but I also need to decide how to interact with those around me.
And… if I manage to find the heroine and the protagonist, how should I approach them?
“Hmm, there’s so much to think about.”
As I mulled things over, there was a knock at the door. Knock, knock.
“Come in!”
As I replied, the door opened, and, as usual, Kyoko stepped inside with her composed expression, dressed in her maid uniform. She bowed politely before fully entering the room.
“Excuse me, Young Master. …You’ve already put on your uniform, I see.”
“Yep. I wanted to make sure it fits properly. What do you think? Does it fit?”
“It feels a bit loose, but considering you’re still in your growth period, I’d say it’s just right.”
“Got it.”
If Kyoko says it’s fine, then it looks like there’s no issue with how it fits!
Well, except for my position as the villain, which is full of issues!
“Um… Young Master.”
“Hm?”
Kyoko was staring at me intently.
Huh? Is something off after all?
“Young Master, your uniform… it looks very good on you.”
“!!”
Kyoko said this with a small smile, and I couldn’t help but widen my eyes in surprise.
…Kyoko just complimented me.
Now that I think about it, this might be the first time she’s praised me directly.
Could it be that I’ve managed to raise her favorability just a little…?
“Well then, I’ll be taking my afternoon leave as planned.”
In the next moment, Kyoko’s expression shifted back to her usual composed and professional demeanor.
“Oh, right. Say hi to Nako for me.”
“I will. Excuse me, Young Master.”
With that, she gave a polite bow and left the room.
Yep, it’s safe to say her favorability hasn’t gone up.
Besides, saying something “looks good” is a pretty common compliment. It’s just polite, right? I shouldn’t let myself overthink it.
But still, when a beautiful woman compliments you… doesn’t it feel a little nice?
Oh, by the way, Kyoko has taken leave for tomorrow morning too.
Why? Because tomorrow is Nako’s entrance ceremony.
It seems she’s decided to attend Sotei Academy as well.
And so, my school life officially begins tomorrow.
I still don’t know what kind of world this is or what the main scenario is supposed to be, but… today’s the day before the entrance ceremony.
This is probably the end of the prologue.
The real story starts with school life.
“Alright, let’s do this! I’ll crush every single doom flag and make this a fun school life!”
I looked at myself in the mirror, standing tall in my uniform, and gave a determined nod.
