Chapter 08: Even as the Villain, I Feel a Bit Relieved (Not Really)
The car started moving, and a few minutes later…
“Young Master, where would you like to go?”
Kyoko, sitting in the driver’s seat, asked me while glancing at me through the rearview mirror.
“Uh…”
Even though she asked, I couldn’t answer right away.
Oh no, I completely forgot to decide where to go.
To be fair, I was planning to just wander around town, pop into any shops that caught my eye, and basically go with the flow.
I mean, I don’t know anything about what’s outside in this world, and I definitely don’t have a sense of direction here.
So I thought it would be better to explore freely—it’s a normal thing to do, right?
But then, Kyoko chose to take this trip with me, driving the car herself, even though she doesn’t seem to like me.
She’s really dedicated to her work. Even if she dislikes me, she doesn’t show it outright.
“Young Master… could it be that you haven’t decided on a destination?”
“Ah… ahem. Well, yes, I suppose that’s the case.”
I admitted it calmly.
I’ve got to avoid any doom flags, but I also need to keep my tone and demeanor consistent with how Reito usually acted.
“I see. Considering you don’t go outside much, it makes sense that you wouldn’t have a specific destination in mind.”
Oh, so the original Reito didn’t go outside much, huh?
Well, considering how comfortable life in that mansion is, I can’t blame him. With everything you need right there, there’s no reason to leave.
“Then I’ll just drive around for a bit.”
“Ah, yeah. I’ll leave it to you.”
Kyoko suggested this, and I leaned back into my seat with relief.
From that point on, the atmosphere in the car grew quiet. No lively conversation between Kyoko and me.
Well, it makes sense—I haven’t managed to raise Kyoko’s opinion of me yet. Just doing some cleaning around the house clearly isn’t enough.
If she dislikes me as much as I think she does, earning her favor will take a lot more effort.
Maybe it’s time to change strategies?
But for now, my main goal is to explore the outside world. Having a quiet car ride might actually help me focus on that.
I shifted my gaze to the scenery outside the car window.
The cityscape was almost identical to the one from my past life.
Tall buildings stood in neat rows, and people filled the sidewalks, bustling about their daily lives. It was a scene that felt strangely nostalgic.
Even though I’ve reincarnated as a villain, seeing something so familiar makes me feel a bit more at ease.
“…Hmm?”
But as I continued to watch the streets pass by, a strange realization hit me.
“…It’s almost all women out there.”
Whether it was people walking on the sidewalks, chatting in pairs, or going into shops, all I could see were women.
And so far, I hadn’t spotted a single man.
Not that I’m desperate to see one or anything! It’s just… curious.
Still, the women I saw through the car window were all stunningly beautiful, so it was definitely pleasing to the eye!
But this odd pattern had caught my attention, so I decided to ask Kyoko about it.
“Hey, is this area always like this? Full of women?”
“Yes, it is.”
“Is this… normal?”
“Completely normal.”
“Huh. Normal, you say.”
Ending the brief exchange, I folded my arms and tried to make sense of it.
Okay, so it’s normal.
That means this spot just happens to be one of those places where mostly women gather.
In my past life, there were areas where you’d only run into middle-aged men—it’s probably something like that!
“Oh, there’s a line outside that ramen shop… and it’s all women. Is that normal too?”
“Perfectly normal.”
Well, it’s February, and it’s still chilly outside. Women enjoy a good bowl of ramen as much as anyone, right?
“Over there looks like a burger joint. Same thing—only women.”
“Normal as well.”
Can’t blame them; burgers are always delicious, no matter the time of year.
“Gyudon shops, steak houses, convenience stores… Oh, look, another customer came out—and it’s a woman again.”
So this is normal, huh? Though, now all I seem to notice are food places, and it’s making me hungry.
“Over there’s an arcade, and a bit further, there’s a gym. And these places are also…”
“Yes, mostly women as well.”
It seems like women in this world not only enjoy eating but are also pretty active. That’s nice!
“…How are you finding the outside after so long, Young Master?”
This time, Kyoko asked, glancing back at me through the mirror.
“Ah, yeah. Even if it’s just from the car, it’s nice to get out once in a while.”
“I see.”
Seeing scenery that looked so similar to my previous world definitely put me at ease.
And everywhere I look, it’s all stunningly beautiful or adorably cute women.
Now that I think about it, all the maids back at the mansion are women too.
No Sebastians here—well, that’s more of a fantasy world thing. But I thought there’d at least be one veteran butler or someone like that around.
But I guess having only cute maids in the mansion was a choice made by the original Reito.
Does this world just have a really high standard of beauty for women? That’s pretty awesome!
This has me looking forward to the co-ed academy I’ll start attending in spring.
There’s bound to be plenty of cute girls there, right?
Oh, speaking of which!
“Kyoko, do we still have some time?”
“We do, but…”
“Good. Then there’s a place I want to go.”
“And where might that be, Young Master?”
“Take me to the academy where I’ll be studying.”
“…! Understood. I’ll head there now.”
Huh? Did Kyoko pause for a moment before answering? Was that just my imagination?
Anyway, I can’t believe I almost forgot about the most important place I need to visit.
For someone like me, who’s been reincarnated as a villain, the academy is the key stage for everything.
Sure, I won’t be meeting the heroine or the protagonist yet since it’s still before the term starts, but a quick look around won’t hurt.
I wonder what kind of place this academy will be.
a veteran butler named sabastian?
is that a reference to Overlord?
is there an Ainz Ooal gown charater reference here too somewhere?
sebastian is a very generic name for a butler in the japanese imagination. not a reference to specifically anything.
Oh, thanks for the information.
