- Chapter 17 - Curse
“The moon is beautiful.”
Aria murmured quietly, and I looked up at the sky.
I wasn’t sure what would happen with my friend, but when I looked up, I saw a round, large moon.
A full moon… I don’t usually take the time to look at the moon at night, so I stared at it for a while.
“It’s like it’s telling us not to worry about anything.”
“It’d be nice if that were true… No, I’m sure it is.”
I replied to Sena, who hugged me tightly from behind and whispered in my ear.
Normally, I would have been startled and tried to pull away immediately, but given the situation, I felt surprisingly calm.
Besides, somehow I was more used to being hugged from behind by Sena than from the front or the side.
(…Still,)
I was calm… but my eyes kept glancing at Aria’s chest… her breasts.
Every time she moved, it seemed like her clothing would slip off, which was a dangerous sight. I worried about what to do if someone walked by… or rather, I didn’t want anyone to see her like this.
(It’s late at night, and thanks to magic, she’s invisible… but I still don’t want anyone to see Aria dressed like this.)
Sena probably felt the same way… I wasn’t sure if it was possessiveness, but I definitely felt possessive about Aria.
“Don’t worry. I’m only dressed like this because you’re here, but I’ve made sure no one else can see me.”
“…”
Aria knew exactly what I was thinking. She patted my lowered head and laughed softly.
After a while, we reached Sho’s house.
I’d been here many times before, so I didn’t get lost, and I knew the layout of the house.
“This is Sho’s room… but it looks like he’s already asleep.”
“I thought that was early for a high school student, but maybe not.”
“Well, Ria goes to bed early too, right?”
“Oh… Let’s check quickly.”
We used magic to confirm that Sho was asleep.
Then, we slipped through the glass window and entered the room, finding Sho tossing and turning in his bed.
I was about to rush to his side, but something else caught my attention—the way Aria and Sena were acting.
“Aria…? Sena…?”
They were staring intently at Sho’s face… then Aria’s expression turned furious, and she conjured a knife-like object with magic, moving toward Sho.
“Wait, Aria!”
“!?”
I moved quickly to stop Aria, raising my voice in a way I’d never done with her before, because I absolutely couldn’t let this happen… but why?
“…Hmph, because Mother moved, I stopped… I see, so that’s how it was.”
“Sena…?”
Sena seemed to realize something, her expression still tense, but she explained calmly.
“This boy… or rather, his previous life? He’s the one who caused our father’s death.”
“…What?”
Not me… but the cause of my previous life’s death?
Now that I think about it, I never did hear the full story… but who would want to ask about how they died in a past life, anyway?
From what I saw in my dream, it seemed to be some kind of illness, but I didn’t know any more than that.
“Mother? Are you calm?”
“Yes…”
Seeing Aria trembling slightly, I couldn’t just stand there and pulled her into a hug.
It felt familiar… and intoxicatingly alluring, but I stroked Aria’s head gently.
“It’s okay, Aria. I’m here.”
“Touya…”
But… we were in a friend’s room, after all.
I held Aria close, and Sena watched us gently… though she might have understood a lot by now.
“…I’m calm now.”
“Can you tell me more?”
“Alright.”
Aria then explained to me.
Sho’s previous life was a witch hunter who cursed me and was the one Aria cast a weakening spell on that would last through reincarnations, ensuring they couldn’t escape.
“……………”
“I could never forgive him… So even after he was reborn, I made sure to cast a spell that would slowly kill him.”
“My hatred was strong too, but Mother’s was even stronger… while he was alive, she tore his body apart piece by piece, and finally crushed his heart with magic.”
To be honest, hearing about the curse placed on me and that Sho was that person in a previous life was surprising, but what shocked me more was that Aria was so angry that she did something so cruel.
(That just shows how important I was to her.)
Love can drive people to madness… but because her feelings were so intense and heavy, maybe it was even more so for a witch… Still, I’m glad we figured out the cause sooner than expected.
“Is it possible to break this spell?”
“It’s no problem. Even if the spell is broken, he won’t remember his previous life… but still, you—”
Then, what I should say is clear.
“Please break the spell. Sho is a dear friend to me now—whatever happened in a past life doesn’t matter… It has nothing to do with who we are now.”
Yes… the past doesn’t matter.
Maybe not everything is unrelated, but I can’t stand the thought of Sho suffering over something that has nothing to do with us now.
“Please.”
I bowed my head.
“Understood… I was surprised by the coincidence, but if you ask, I’ll comply.”
And so, the spell on Sho was lifted.
Sho’s expression softened as he was released from his nightmare, and I let out a big sigh of relief.
The grudge from a previous life was deeply rooted, though. Even though she forgave him, Sena said she never wanted to see his face again… well, I couldn’t ask for more if she really hated it.
“…Aria?”
Later, after we left Sho’s house and returned home with the belongings from the Saionji house, I was about to go to bed.
As soon as I lay down, Aria slipped through the window—this time, in a sheer negligee, much more revealing than the witch’s outfit she had been wearing earlier.
“Touya…”
She climbed on top of me as I lay there and kissed me, pressing her lips against mine.
