- Chapter 13 - The Boy That Her Heart Hates
“You’re really popular, aren’t you?”
“Stop talking like that.”
During lunch break, Sho says this to me while I’m having my lunch.
If I had to explain why I’m popular, it’s because I came to school with Ria.
Even now, after a few hours have passed since then, I still wonder why I did that.
(First of all, the main point is that I don’t dislike being with Ria. The way she looks at me is so comforting, and more than anything, it makes me want to protect her.)
Also, after hearing what Aria told me, I’m convinced that Ria’s gaze toward me is definitely one filled with affection.
To be honest, it feels really good to have a beautiful girl looking at you like that.
“…Hey, Sho.”
“Hmm?”
“Just listen to me, even if you only half believe it.”
“Got it. I’ll listen half-heartedly.”
“Thanks.”
Sho is really an understanding friend.
When I motioned for him to come closer with a flick of my finger, he leaned in.
“You see… I really care about Ria. We’ve become close because we live nearby, but more than that, when I think about how much she trusts me—”
“I see, but isn’t this all happening a bit too fast? I know you’ve gotten close since she moved nearby, but it doesn’t seem like there’s much point in asking for more details.”
“Yeah, you’re right. There’s a reason, but it’s not something I can talk about so easily.”
“I see… Well, it’s fine. I feel like things will work out if you and Saionji-san end up together.”
Only a best friend would understand so quickly like this… but still, something feels off. It’s like the atmosphere when Ria said she was scared before.
“…Lately, I’ve been having strange dreams that I can’t really understand.”
“You too?”
“Yeah. In the dream, I’m killed by a woman with an eerie sensuality who resembles Saionji-san.”
“What?!”
Come on, that’s a dangerous dream… I should be laughing it off, but considering my own experience with dreams, I can’t.
“…Actually, having such a dream makes me feel guilty. A dream is just a dream, and no matter what kind of dream someone has, it’s not anyone else’s fault… so lately, I haven’t been sleeping well, but I can’t complain about it.”
“You can’t sleep…?”
“Yeah.”
Now that he mentions it, he does have dark circles under his eyes. During class, he was nodding off a lot… could it be insomnia or something similar?
“Are you okay?”
“I can’t really say I’m okay, but if it gets any worse, I plan to go to the hospital.”
“………”
I understand that there’s nothing I can do about illness, but it’s frustrating to feel so powerless. All I can do is worry about Sho and tell him to go to the hospital as soon as possible.
(…A dream where someone who looks like Ria kills him… What kind of dream is that?)
If the dream I had wasn’t just a dream, I can’t help but wonder if Sho has something similar going on.
“Touya-kun.”
“?!”
“You…”
Suddenly, I’m startled by a voice from behind. The voice belongs to Ria… and it seems like she needs to talk to me.
“Can I talk to you for a moment?”
“Yeah… I’ll be right back.”
“Sure.”
I give a quick word to Sho and follow Ria out of the classroom. Ignoring the stares of others, she grabs my hand. I can feel my cheeks getting warm, but I don’t resist and follow her.
It’s only now that I notice that the stares around us have disappeared. It’s as if no one around us is aware of our presence, which makes me think Ria might be using some kind of magic.
“That’s right, I’m using magic so others can’t recognize us.”
“Did I say that out loud?”
“No, I can just read everything you’re thinking, Touya-kun.”
“………”
Hmm… I feel like I’m sensing some yandere vibes right now. We arrive at an empty classroom, and I have a feeling she used another spell when we entered.
“I wanted to talk to you because of something.”
“What is it?”
“It’s about him… what is Manabe-kun? When I look at him, I can’t help but feel this deep hatred.”
“…What?”
Wait a minute… what is Ria talking about?
“Manabe Sho-kun is your friend, right? Even from a distance, I can sense the strong bond of trust between you.”
“Yeah… we’ve been close for a long time.”
“I know he’s not a bad person. But for some reason, I just can’t help but hate him—it’s a strange, disgusting feeling, but that’s how I feel.”
“………”
This is… unusual for Ria to say something like this. As his friend, I know Sho would never do anything to make people hate him. I’ve known him long enough to know that he doesn’t have a hidden side or anything like that… he’s genuinely a good guy. There’s no way I’m being deceived or anything.
“I’ve also observed Manabe-kun’s character and judged him to be a good person… but deep down, there’s something in me that hates him.”
“Hey, Ria.”
“Yes?”
“Actually, Sho said something that bothered me too. I was thinking of talking to Aria-san and the others about it.”
“Does it have to be my mother and the others?”
“Huh?”
“Can’t it be me? Can’t I help you?”
“W-Wait a second—”
“Am I not good enough?!”
First, I need to calm Ria down! We’ve only known each other for a few days, but I’m surprised to see Ria raise her voice like this. Not sure what to do, I instinctively pull Ria into a strong hug.
“…Ah.”
To my surprise, Ria immediately calms down. She wraps her arms around my back and starts caressing it in a way that feels oddly sensual.
“Ufufu…♪”
“………”
Alright, like I said before, I need to calm her down first!
