- Chapter 10 - Finals
“Wake up, Sora. Wake up or I’ll attack you. Is that okay?”
“!?”
I got up as soon as I heard that voice and found Alice in front of me, straddling me.
“Alice…”
“Ehehe, good morning.”
“G-Good morning. But what you said before was a little too forward, wasn’t it?”
“Because it’s a woman’s nature to want to attack the person she loves when he or she is sleeping unprotected.”
I’m a little embarrassed when people honestly tell me they like me.
And I can’t get Alice’s face out of my head since that amusement park.
(Damn…what’s wrong with me?)
“Sora?”
“No, it’s nothing. I’ll go downstairs and change.”
“No, I’ll wait for you here. Go change.”
“….”
She covered her eyes with her hands, but I could see her eyes staring at me with her fingers open.
“If you don’t leave in a minute, I won’t talk to you until the second period, okay?”
It would be more conscientious than all day long. But even so, the effect on Alice was immediate.
“Please… Just don’t do that. I’ll do what you say…”
When we left for school, Alice silently clung to my arm and would not move away.
………
……
…
The first semester final exam is held in July at Tokyo Metropolitan Kaihei High School. If a student gets a red mark in this test, he or she will have to take remedial classes for two weeks during the summer vacation, which is nothing but hell for a student. The day before the test, I received three short tests on Chinese, ancient, and modern literature.
“Hey Sora, how did you do on your quiz?”
When the quiz was returned, Shunya asked me for the results. But when you write down the score for someone, it’s only logical that you tell them first.
“What about you?”
“I have 91 in modern literature, that’s awesome, right!?”
This guy… it pisses me off that he’s surprisingly smart…
“Damn… 78…”
“Yoshyaa!!!”
Shunya was elated to have successfully won in the customary student behavior of showing scores with friends.
“Then what about the other two? I’m not very good at ancient literature, 68, and I got 90 in Chinese.”
Hayaya was confidently saying this, but I smiled as if I was waiting for it and gave him the Chinese and Japanese test results: I scored 98 in the Japanese and 100 in the Chinese. I’m pretty good at this one. I held the test close to me and smiled.
“Look, look, say out loud what my scores are. Nn?”
“Uwaaah! I hate this guy! I hate him!”
Shunya fled in tears. But I don’t miss him. Alice, who was standing next to me, looked pale.
“Come on Alice, show me the score, will you?”
Alice was shaking and teary-eyed. This must have been a very bad score.
“Uguu… S-Sora, I need you to listen to me for a minute, okay?”
“That’s fine. I’ll listen.”
“I don’t think it’s right to judge people by their educational background. Besides, I’m a returnee from abroad, and I think it’s no wonder if I don’t have a good grasp of the Japanese language.”
“Yeah, that’s what I think, too. So show me.”
“Y-Yes…”
28 points for Modern literature
2 points for Chinese
0 points for ancient literature
“Oh…” (In english)
I unintentionally let out a voice. Why is the score of Modern Japanese a little high? No, it’s not really high.
“Uuu…uuu…”
I patted Alice’s shoulder as she was about to cry, comforted her, and at the same time suggested.
“I’ll teach you how to study. Don’t worry about it.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. Or rather, I’m not that good at maths and English either, so please teach me.”
“Yeah! Yeah! I’ll teach you!”
Thus, a study session was to be held between the two of us.
