A Chance To Rewrite It All - Chapter 19- Interview?
Hiyori’s father—Tsukasa Hotarou, is the president of a multinational company that majorly deals in steel and fuel.
I met him in my last life, not as Hiyori’s ex-boyfriend but as a potential business partner. I doubt if he knew in the last life that I once dated his daughter since the time I was standing before me, I was the owner of a big firm.
However, in this life, my entanglement with Hiyori must have brought his attention, more so when so much money was involved.
I am unaware how much the man cared about his daughter, however, I think the reason he summoned me was because of the
the relationship we once shared rather than the deal.
“Ryuusuke…thanks for coming.” As I knocked, the familiar woman from the other side parted the door and invited me inside.
I was wearing casual clothes, but given she called me here on short notice, I couldn’t do anything about it.
The office room of the big boss was quite huge, with floor-to-ceiling glass just across the entrance.
On the chair behind the heavy table sat a bald man with a round face. The last time I remember, he was quite slimmer compared to now.
“Good evening, sir. I am-”
“I know. Sit down.” In a domineering tone, he ‘suggested.’
I glanced at Hiyori and found her glaring at her father but to no avail.
The man kept his stern gaze fixated on me as he asked, “I heard from my daughter that you are developing an application for her company?”
If he had to ask this much he could have done so on the phone—naturally, I didn’t say that and responded,
“Yes, I am. I have already relayed the outline to Hiyori-san.” I calmly replied.
The man leaned forward and suddenly flipped his laptop open, as he asked,
“How many people are there in the team and where is your office?”
“Dad!” Hiyori exclaimed but it fell deaf ear on her father.
I smiled softly before telling him the truth, “It’s just me working on the project and I work from home.”
The man snickered; I feel he already knew it.
He suddenly spun the laptop in my direction.
I glanced at the screen and found a few series of codes resting there.
The man spoke, “You have a minute, find and fix the error.”
Hiyori exclaimed, “Just a minute? There are so many codes!”
This time, I also ignored her and put my hands on the device.
Heaving a sigh I began and I noticed the man tapping on his phone—probably initiating
a stopwatch.
I wanted to chuckle, this was like the first interview I gave where technical skills only mattered.
*Tap* *Tap*
For a few seconds only the sound of my fingers running on the keyboard could be heard. I saw Hiyori following the screen intently and I had enough time to glance at her amusing expression.
“Done.” I didn’t have to glance at the watch to know that I still had more than half a minute.
The man frowned before he took the laptop and went through the codes. Just to be on the safe side, he even called someone, and the bespectacled man also nodded in the affirmation that, indeed, the codes carried no error at all.
Once he was done and the fourth person was sent out, Hotarou-san asked me,
“Can you make such an application? Although the app-based calling feature isn’t new, the features you have listed to be added in your application will bring a revolution in the market.”
I smiled faintly, “I did my research and after deliberately pondering over what I could offer without exceeding the average compatibility, I came to this application.”
I was confident since I have studied LINE in depth and I am confident to make a better version than the original version of it.
However, I needed some time and peace for that.
The man across from me leaned back in his seat before saying, “Truth be told, I never expected a teenager to be this capable. When I heard that Hiyori trusted a punk, I thought she had made a deal that was destined to drown.”
Hiyori smugly chided, “You see how wrong you can be about me, Dad? Hehe~”
Hotaru raised his eyebrows, “Don’t get me started about your wrong decisions throughout your life.”
Her smug vanished as she glared at her father, “It’s all in the past! I have grown up now.”
Seriously, the contrast between the woman who appears in public and the girl in front of me right now is quite glaring.
After a few moments, Hotarou-san asked Hiyori to bring coffee for us. However, I knew it was just an excuse or he would have told his assistant.
Hiyori walked away, and silence descended in the room.
I interlaced my fingers as I rested my hands on the table and urged the man, “Whatever doubt is in your mind, ask me, sir.”
It was not very difficult to read the man. And the way he adored his daughter I think I know what he was anxious about.
“Ryuusuke…although there were some speed jerks in their relationship, Hiyori and Tomura are happy now.”
I was right; he was apprehensive since I and Hiyori shared a relationship for a brief period. It was when Hiyori and Tomura came to know each other and fought a lot.
I had enough photos of me and Hiyori together to destroy her relationship. However,
“I have already moved on from that phase, sir, and I have a girlfriend now whom I would not betray under any circumstances.”
Like a boulder was lifted off his shoulders, the man heaved a sigh of relief.
For the first time since I entered this office, he offered a smile and said,
“God bless, child.”
After that, we conversed casually for a few minutes before I finished my coffee and excused myself.
I was about to get up when Hotarou-san said,
“If you are looking for devices and other equipment, my secretary can help. She has a good connection and can be helpful. Here is her number.”
He handed me a card which I took with a thankful nod.
Not so long after I left the building and headed back home in the same car in which I was brought here.
Looking at the changing scenery outside, I couldn’t help but smile.
Everything is going so perfectly that sometimes I feel scared that something bad might happen.
‘Haah…sometimes I miss my teenager thinking process…’ Being a grown-up man, my overthinking sometimes bothers me.
